This is what I was telling Ibime that day . These victims know the identity of those who attacked them . It’s not like they are Fulanis from Mail or other countries across the Sahara .

It’s government/authorities turning blind eye to these attacks that usually lead to reprisal attacks

Well, in as much as I respect those who are married and things are working fine for them in their marriage, kudos to them!, I will not hesitate to point out the fact that The whole concept of marriage does not add up to me honestly. What's the point of marriage? What if I refuse to marry?. Away from religion, I don't see the point of marriage honestly? I mean, must I marry before the society accept me? What's the point of marriage? To fulfil rightousness? To be part of society? To what extent sef? To show I'm a man? I mean, to be recognised as a responsible individual?

The whole concept of marriage is the reason for all these shenanigans of feminist brouhaha.

When I readi, I bring the damn children to the world without marriage or being married.

Make ah enjoy my little freedom, privacy and security small. kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss
Despite the terrible things some people experience in marriage, I still believe a family setting is the best environment to raise children.

They see a responsible masculine and responsible feminine to mold them and give them balance

I felt sad reading this . Wilson Oruma was duped of 2 billion naira while he was trying to prepare for life after retirement .

Femi Opabunmi had Glucoma that has now rendered him penniless .

Does Nigeria even have any provisions for these heroes of the past ?

https://www.nairaland.com/7670419/oruma-travails-olympic-medalist
I assumed Nigeria paid all their allowance when they represented Nigeria.

So I don't think Nigeria owes them anything after retirement

Oruma made money and lots of it. He played at top French level for 16 years. His downfall was lack of financial education. He committed N2bln to fraudsters which was a clean £8m at the time.

What a wonderful CM he was. I preferred him to Okocha. He was a modern CM, never lost the ball but also pressed properly unlike Okocha. His longevity at the top also speaks to his dedication to physical fitness. Oruma played Under17 in 1993, immediately joined Lens and played mostly in French league till 2009, eventually retiring in 2010 after one year in Greek league. That's a lot of consistent earnings. Will never forget his 2 goals scored against Argentina in Under17 World Cup. That was the first tournament where I watched football with small sense. He absolutely dominated that tournament and finished top scorer from midfield.

Without Oruma, there would be no Olympics either as he provided the Amuneke assist in the final and the pass that bounced off Ikpeba for Kanus winning goal in the semi. Oruma was a technical beast on the pitch if you saw him play in Marseille, and that dude would have been mid30s to late30s in real age then. Okocha really held him back.

I still don't know what possessed him to put all his life savings of N2bln in oil block scammers. This guy should have properties all over France earning him rentals, and arguably earned on a par with Okocha. If he removed just £2m from that £8m and put in property, he would have been OK
Well said. Per his football he was a modern 10. But Nigerians didn't like him because he no dey dribble

That's why I always advice anyone abroad to invest abroad especially in real estate which is still protected and insured as a retirement plan

As I dey I don't even trust 401k or other financial tools. One day you can wake up and all you stock market value gone down. Never mind investing in Nigeria

He probably had the old notion of investing in one’s home country instead of abroad . I guess that was what led him to getting swindled.

Funny enough , it was a pastor that swindled him of the N2 billion
This here.

Even bible encouraged us to sow in a fertile land and not do emotional investments

So because I come from Omu aran and I have 1bn to invest, I will ignore fertile lands like Abuja PH Ibadan or Lagos and go to Omu aran to claim home country

Even our politicians wey dey shout about national pride have their investments abroad

Countries owe heroes . Heroes who brought smile to the faces of millions of other citizens deserve to be honored and taken care of in time of distress .
I disagree. Those who worked as employees are owed pension. Those who are contractors are not owed anything after retirement

Should we gather every athlete musician who has ever represented Nigeria since independence and be paying them for life

The video I saw of Oruma behaving almost deranged after that scam still saddens me badly.

Yes na.

I sympathize with Orumas situation but how many athlete and performers go dey on govt payroll after retirement

You will see OJB, Baba suwe Mr Ibu, Yekini, Kingsley Obiekwu, Ebiede Oruma Opabunmi etc sick next thing we will ask why is govt not taking care of them

An average athlete say Oruma played his career in France, paid most of his taxes to French govt, the few times he represented Nigeria he was paid a princely sum possible 5k dollars per appearance yet today we are asking why Nigeria govt is not helping him out

Why don't we ask the French clubs he actually spent most of his time playing for that why are they not paying him in retirement? Why is Marseille not paying him seeing his predicament? Most will think it's a silly opinion.

This is born out of the belief that govt is a charity

In a normal situation shey na your taxes govt suppose dey take pay Yekini Opanbunmi and Oruma who earned in one outing than many Nigerian workers make their entire career?

They need to be supported with training, infrastructure, and equipment. Most of these people you think are quacks will leave the country and excel.

I saw him a couple of months in VGC, when I was there to see a patient, and he looked quite stable. I was told he owns a house there, so the news about him being bedridden and on catheter is somewhat shocking.

Catheter will be to treat a physical ailment and not his mental malady

No doubt he will still have his primary residence, maybe one in VGC and one in Warri

What a man with no future income prospects should do at this stage is sell those houses, downgrade to Lekki and use the equity to buy some properties that will give him cashflow

Oruma is not the only one suffering. Babayaro was earning £20k per week at Chelsea and £40k at Newcastle. I reckon he cleared £6m after tax over the course of his football career. Babayaro filed for bankruptcy about a decade ago and now just lives in his primary residence which was worth £300k some years back. I wonder how that nigga is faring going bankrupt with no future prospect of income. Babayaro also blew his money on investments that his brother Emmanuel (Under 17 goalkeeper) convinced him to invest in. Emmanuel is probably richer that Celestine now despite not building a professional career after that Under17 world cup.

It's funny how over 90% of people that wanted to lynch tinubu now have records of them praising him in the past.

And over 90% of people shouting obidient today wanted to lynch same obi after his tenure.

Politics is fascinating.

When you earn so much money in a short career, you only have one job and that is to turn it into fixed income via property. Too many of these athletes try to reinvent the wheel and go broke

For property, what are your main considerations when investing, yield or capital appreciation?

I know the catheter is supposed to treat a physical ailment, I was just saying he looked physically okay when I saw him. The mental health issue was there, but you wouldn't notice until you try engaging him in a lengthy conversation.

Yield and Cash flow is what I go for. My principle is that if my house increase in value, it's still unrealized gain until you sell, let's say you sell then you either look for the next deal or you chop the money and go broke. Also you have to pay taxes on the profit you make from selling. Also one wrong deal can wreck you quicker.

So I just look for what will give me some extra after paying the mortgage and other costs. If I am able to make more maybe through airbnb, I plough into paying down the principal

My goal is to retire by say 50 and live on rental income mainly or work part time to keep insurance

The only property I intend to sell in the next 5yrs is one that was built in the 70s because it's getting too old it's starting to have plenty plumbing and issues related to age. I intend to sell and use the money to get a newer build
