Be logical with your conclusions.

Nigeria cannot afford to pay Doctors the same wages in Europe. PPP of the Naira makes what they earn in Nigeria reasonable.

Let's compare House Rent for instance:

A new doctor can afford a year's rent of a decent accomodation in Nigeria with just two months salary. The money his colleagues are paying annually for rent in the US can get him a land in a nice area outside Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Doctors in Nigeria may not be wealthy but they're doing better when compared to other professionals (per 1,000).
Nigeria is not a communist state either. It's a capitalist democracy, many of these doctors went to private universities and work in the private sector, they have nothing to do with your supposedly "subsidized education"

Average salary of a medical doctor in the US is $200,000

average 1 year rent for a 3-bedroom apartment in the US is $24,000

which means a medical doctor can afford almost a 8-year lease with their annual salary after taxes

Can the average medical doctor in Nigeria afford a 8-year lease with their annual salary after taxes?

This man is a disaster ...he already knows that he is going on permanent political retirement afteMayay 29 ...he is not competent ....he is highly tribalistic and he shows it in his ministry and his relationship with the political party members...and he is a serial liar ....supposing Keyamo is the substantial minister for Labour, Ministry of Labour could have experienced more development than what this beast has given to Nigerian workers. .it is under his leadership that Nigeria doctors are leaving the country in thousands. The number of Nigerian doctors in the Uk and Saudi Arabia is alarming.....

This man is a monumental failure. How I wish it was the time of Obasanjo's administration...he could have been sacked after two months of resumption because he is not effective and efficient ...

If you have passed through a public university in Nigeria and then you think Dr. Ngige isn't making sense , then you should forfeit your degree.

Education in Nigeria is heavily subsidized. Nigeria cannot train you almost free of charge and then you run away to a foreign country when Nigeria lacks sufficient manpower in your field of endeavor. The practice is worse than being unpatriotic. It is wickedness.

Medical doctors spend less than a million naira in tuition in Federal universities to complete their program. In fact, during the NYSC program, most medical students make back the money they spent on their tuition.

Many medical doctors in the foreign countries you wickedly dump Nigeria for spend the first two years of their career paying back student loans. Their salary is high because of the high cost of living in their country which is why they pay an average of 100,000 USD for medical education ( tuition+ others fees).

The government doesn't intend to stop you from migrating. No, they'll be stupid to do that because it's against the tenets of FHRs .
The FG is simply telling you, if Nigeria is the worst country on Earth, go to Canada, US or UK and spend 50,000 USD to acquire medical training and then work for them. If you want to benefit from our subsidy then you must compulsorily serve us for a few couple of years.

However, the policy of the FG is not good for the long run because medical consultants, experts and specialists will greatly reduce in Nigerian hospitals as there's no embargo placed against them.

What's the need of having many medical doctors who are not really proficient?

The best practice remains improving the welfare of Medical practitioners and enlightening them of their Hippocratic oath to serve their black brothers and sisters.

God Bless Dr Ngige. He's a patriotic Nigerian!
Typical jealousy of the average Nigerian. Is there any course not subsidized in Nigeria? In it all, government should put themselves together and ensure the basic things needed to work and build a career exist instead of crying foul.

You have a point but it’s lopsided.

Nigerian politicians should never go on medical tourism if we chunk out these many doctors each year from our medical schools. The worst is a president going for medical treatment overseas. What does that connote? What kind of leadership is that?

If leaders can go overseas for treatment to have better lives, so can any citizen leave the country to seek better life. If we all want better lives, then we should all start doing the right thing by making things work in the country first.

My only worry is the politicians and rich people who still japa abroad for medical treatment. For me the FG must balance the equation by stopping politicians and rich people seeking medical treatment abroad just as they want to stop medical doctors from japaing. Shikena!

I obtained that free training. In fact my own I was even on scholarship. Why won’t I be patriotic to serve my country

I thought this he goat practiced abroad before he was patriotic enough to come back Nigeria to loot. Why not the leaders be patriotic enough to upgrade and patronise the hospitals in Nigeria instead of wasting tax payers money on medical tourism.
I only pity those who take politicians serious, worse are those who fight nor ruin relationships because of them. Come to Abuja and see how these guys are rocking them lives.

Well,we could pay the same as Europe if we paid a higher tax to gdp ratio (which your APC government has not done ) or allowed hospitals to control the prices they set (which your APC government has not done).

Even if the governments at all levels in Nigeria build and equip the best hospitals in Nigeria, the poor wages, worsening insecurity, and deep rooted corruption in Nigeria, will make the doctors run down the hospitals and emigrate abroad for better living standards. It's better for the political class to first accept the fact that Nigeria's unitary government system makes the country most dysfunctional.

A country where you can't get student loan if you want.

I partly agree and disagree with him at thesame time, I have my reasons..

Nigeria has a really messed up system I agree but sometimes let's be rational in our thinking. I have friends who were lucky to get federal government scholarships, TetFunds, etc to study abroad, a lot of them after few months would call you and be like "oboy wetin you still dey do for dat useless Naija, Nigeria hopeless, Naija this, Naija that, blah, blah". Thesame country who fund your trip and pays your fees ?! shocked These are people who cannot afford such on their own.

On the topic, I know a good medical education cost a whole lot everywhere in the world, even in good private schools here in Nigeria but government has been able subsidize to a point that medical students in government universities pay almost nothing. I think on that part, Ngige is right. Having said that, our doctors would love to stay if they politicians stop looting funds needed for equipping our hospitals, our doctors will stay if Ngige, his family and fellow politicians start using our local hospitals, the monies they waste on medical tourism if retained within our health sector would do a great deal to cub brain drain. You train these people for "free" yet you can't entrust your life to them.
If you are close by i would have bought you beer, you just said the whole truth
