Women have proven time and time again to be good managers of money . They manage the home with meagre finance from the husband when he’s probably erecting a building , saving to buy a family car, invest in the future etc.

I don’t think it makes sense talking all those husband’s investment away from her on the flimsy excuse of “keeping critical family assets in the family line “. Let that woman keep the assets and train her kids out of it. It makes no sense transferring those assets to a brother or uncle who will always have his own self interest at heart first before any other person
No, I was referring to nuclear/polygamous family inheritance, of course when a man dies, the wife/wives should naturally inherit his assets, especially when the kids are still underage...same thing with when a woman dies. My position was on how inheritance should be done within a nuclear/polygamous family when the kids are of age to partake in the sharing process.

As a man no matter how you distrust or no send your wife she must surely take care of your kids upon your demise so best to will everything to her.

I totally agree. Women are better managers of money and will protect the interest of her kids while a man might go have other kids outside and the new family chance the older kids

Also its easier to find irresponsible, womanizing men who will squander the assets than women especially when it comes to issue of properties

When the kids are of age and the inheritance is to be shared , everyone should get a slice of it irrespective of ur gender . There’s no need saying the female shouldn’t get because u want to keep the assets in the family . Who makes up the family ? Is it not the same children ?
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 5:49pm On May 01, 2023
Yea, legally it's the wrong way to go, cause as long as the kids are underage, they cannot take control of properties, so any man wey run that kin thing, na till the kids reach 18 dem fit claim inheritance, and god forbid the person con get relatives wey don assume control squander am/misappropriate am, go be serious OYO.

He totally avoided why people go on strikes, and was talking about Section 43 abi na 46

The female child thing not inheriting is even news to me. It doesn't happen in Yoruba land sha.
Wike had to sign a law allowing female children access to inheritance. Before now, it was strictly a male affair and there is nothing anybody will do about it.

One of the good things the Wike administration did.

Not saying the females shouldn't get, but the males should take and control the bulk of it, unless there are no male children, then the females should then inherit solely.

Exactly. Women who lose inherited assets are rare to see compared to men who lose theirs . A man would engage in all types of vices that the society allows them, while a woman would not even dare engage in such past-times for fear of what the society would say.

So what is the incentive of the wife to contribute to her marital home to build assets when after her husband dies, One uncle will show face

Do women get encouraged to buy properties in their own name and not in husbands name?
Note that the properties that these stupid uncles can even lay claim to are mostly the ones in the village. Na egungun way Wan enter express go Wan enter town dey find property to steal.

These are mostly properties left behind by their forefathers and the ones the deceased acquired in the village too. This is usually their strong hold..and where they can get enough support as well. A young wife will probably remarry else where..and her daughters married out to men in other villages and states..leaving behind their dead man's properties. This is my own understanding of why the tradition ever existed.

Can they really come from village to Lagos to claim their deceased brothers properties? How many do they know. They don't hold sway here.

This should be relative.

If you have wasteful sons, i don't see why you should let them control bulk of your assets.

The prudent and wise child should be given that responsibility

Why should the male take control of the bulk ? What qualifies them for taking majority while the female takes minority ?

You have seen that even Reno whom you mentioned, didn't really criticise PO except for usual politics.
When you opined that nobody criticized Obi, were you talking about not criticizing him for his sexual inadequacies, if any?

Reno called him a liar, while an Obidient called him Ekwensu. Well, Devil is tricky and a liar.

I know a family friend, the man had 4 daughters and then had 2 sons as the second to the last and last born respectively .

The 5th born who is the first son is a terrible gambler, mismanages funds, failed at yahoo-yahoo and most of all a problem child . The good thing is the father and mother are very much comfortable . He was just like their cross to carry .His younger brother is more better behaved than him.

Before the man died about 6 years ago, the 5th child ( the problem child ) drove one of their vehicles under the influence of alcohol and had an accident that wrote the vehicle off completely . The man had to spend millions to settle the family of the affected people in the accident cos the vehicle ran into someone else’s house and nearly got them killed .

When the man was sick and knew he was not getting better, he wrote a will and it was later read after his burial and all. The man willed some of his houses and lands in different locations to his children . He made sure the female who are the eldest got the most while the problem child got the least . His younger brother got a better property than him sef with cash . The man put a caveat that all those properties should not be handed to them except his wife is no more . So for now let them face their hustle ( The man did this in particular cos he knows how bad the guy is at handling money and he knows he won’t do any work again the moment he gets his own share of the assets )

Once again, I can't ever mock my people. I agree PMB fails economy-wise, but infrastructures-wise he tried.

Apologies to anyone who feels offended, I am not mocking and will never do that to fellow Nigerians.

This whole husband family trying to take over Dead husband's properties thing also if we're being honest stems from in Igbo culture how the man is supposed to shoulder every single financial burden of the family. It's all fine and dandy when the man is alive but once he dies everyone is out for blood.

Obviously it's a good thing that people are waking up and deploying wills and what not but mehn I find that aspect of una culture quite problematic. That's also why when you want to mention #1 simps it's Igbo men. Na Igbo man dey pay girlfriend school fees pass. Just that this whole Husband family wahala is the negative side to the patriarchy benefits women enjoy

Them plenty well well.

I had one who was irresponsible like that . He married 2 wives and had 11 children. He didn’t train any of them to even secondary school. Because he was seeing money then, he just keeps doing faaji and having several concubines.

The kids grew up , some of them learnt trade while some were sent to monothecnics by their respective mothers from where they picked themselves up and did well for themselves .

Now their mothers have their respective houses they built from their years of petty trade. The man does not have a single property to his name, in fact the house my old man built and left for the family was where he lived before his demise. At a time they were calling family meeting trying to beg the children to take care of the man and not think of how he didn’t take care of them. Those ones no send .
