Antiochus: The Nigerian military, especially the Air Force is pretty decent. We have about 50 aircrafts potentially on order. 24 x units M-346FA 6 x units T-129 ATAK Helicopters (Legacy MI-24Vs have been retired, MI-35P helicopters should follow closely) 12 x units AH-1Z Attack helicopters (probably stalled) 12 x Units A-109 on order 2 x units C-295 Transport planes from Airbus If all these come in as expected, the Force's ability to strike at will will further increase. We currently use 3 x units JF-17 and 12 x units upgrade F-7NI for Air Defence, that's not bad, but I would have imagined that we would have made the JF-17s a Squadron atleast. 12 x units. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Sister ships of NNS Oji would be commissioned in 2024. The CNS who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Saidu Suleiman Garba said a total of 20 capital ships were procured for the Nigerian Navy under the eight years tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari. He said the ships comprise offshore patrol vessels, landing ship transport, hydrographic survey vessels, seaward defence boats, helicopters, as well as, over 300 inshore patrol vessels and assault crafts. He added that the president also commissioned two locally built ships in 2016 and 2021, and laid the keel for two more, which will be ready by 2024. 1 Like

kabe1: Are you an engineer? Have you a naval architect?. Have you entered into a dry dick before? How then do you conclude upgrading a MEKO frigate is a dud. Do you know the systems design is modular? They are even acquiring a small frigate with it but I tell you that Frigate won't be as Capable as Aradu when both are finished |

RiceProducers: Since you are here, I will expect that you be respectful to differing opinions, please do not bring the unruly behavior that is well versed in the other thread to this place. Moving on, my thoughts on NNS Aradu, the ship is 43 years old and has passed it's effective life cycle. It's systems are old, it's engine is broken, it's weapon management system is outdated. NNS Aradu has had many accidents, the most recent repair was done at the Naval Dockyard in Lagos where there were problems with water ingress into the ship. The ship completed repairs and had to be towed out of the dockyard by Tugs back to NNS Beecroft. NNS Aradu while a powerful warship back when it was launched in the 80's is a complete shadow of it's self. The cost of refitting NNS Aradu back to a warm fighting frigate would be so high, it's systems, guns, radars, engines etc etc would need to be completed replaced. I am of the opinion that the Navy would be better served with acquiring 2 x brand new ships. There's so much emotional attachment with NNS Aradu, the ship is way past it's prime. If we are looking at purchasing Frigates the BRP Jose Rizal class Frigates would be an excellent fit for us, instead of investing in a ship that's way past it's prime. 1 Like |

kabe1: I don't even know if I should cry or laugh. Other Navies are going for stealth frigates, Nigerian Navy wants to refurbish a 42 years old frigate . It would have been better if the Navy decided to acquire second hand frigates like the Type 053H3 or Type 054. I remember sometime in 2020, the cost of refurbishing Aradu was estimated at 250 million dollars, isn't that enough to get us something better than a 1980s ship😠2 Likes |

kabe1:Agreed, it would cost so much to refit NNS Aradu to current standards one could just as well purchase a new Frigate |
