Searching (2018) : 8.5/10

I saw the trailer of “missing” at the movies in Dec last year, I remember being awestruck at the similarity with “searching” , turns out, it is the same producer, anyways I made a promise to myself to watch it whenever it premieres, but I’ve been busy. Netflix did me a solid by adding it, to their list of movies.

In order to watch “missing”, I decided to rewatch “searching”, and I was reminded why, it was one of the best movies I watched in 2018. I was still impressed with the whole third party view thing, they did with the computers and cameras. I love the storytelling and the slow buildup. Even though I knew “whodunit”, I still liked the unraveling.

Love this movie. Definitely one of my top 50 thrillers.

Time to watch “missing”……..

Martin Scorsese is one of the few people who can keep you glued to your screen for over 3 hours effortlessly. When I say I want a movie to have a 4hr runtime this is what I mean 😩😩😩. Cos the person cooking and their method of story telling is out of this world.

Very generic 80s horror fare. The sound design and score is one of wackiest I've eve heard in cinema.

I'd be totally discouraged to watch 80s movies or older. Sam Raimi did well with the jumpscares tho. Never knew his directorial career goes this far back.

Not much thought as to the origins of the entity possessing the area in this movie. Just plain good ol' scarefest. Poor world building.
Of course, I know it's a cult classic.

Prolly part of the reason based on the legacy horror films of old have gained, that's why Oscars and other award bodies hardly take the genre seriously. 🥺
