A massive fleet of helicopters flew over me yesterday. It was carrying guests from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja to the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju Lekki and then to the Nigerian Naval Dockyard on Victoria Island for the Presidential Fleet Review.

The Nigerian Navy held a summit for chiefs of the naval staff of Gulf of Guinea countries before the fleet review. They are considering establishing a Gulf of Guinea naval task force to combat piracy and other crimes on the seas. Gulf of Guinea countries include Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe, the Ivory Coast, Gabon and Congo.

Probably because of all the senior military officers that were arriving the Naval Dockyard, the Nigerian Navy blocked off a section of Ahmadu Bello Way for some hours.

President Muhammadu Buhari attended the fleet review dressed in the uniform of an admiral of the fleet.

is it safe to say Nigerians are jokers? Look at how we are silent about this Great achievement as if it never happened, a project that will create 150,000 direct and indirect job, reduce fuel scarcity,No, we are interested all over the internet about Baci cokathon, about Live transmission in tribunal.

we are quick to make negative news about Nigeria as if we have another country, but mute on good news about country. nobody said there should be constructive criticism, but haba lets celebrate good news too and make it trend.

Befriend them, they betray you.
Rent property to them, they take over.
Sell them land, they claim indigeneship.
Do business with them, you regret.
Allow them in a party, they hijack it.
Host them, they disrespect you.

Such opportunistic and dubious people can't rule Nigeria.

Hello! Corrupt politicians also buy into Tesla, Amazon, Google Alphabet and NVIDIA, so don’t make it look like Dangote is the first person that allows people buy into his company.

Do you think Elon Musk or Bezos cares if investors stole the money they invested in their company? They don’t care! They are businessmen and will accept anything.

Don’t be surprised if Hush Puppy has shares in Tesla or Amazon.

Nigerian Navy town class boats

Sokoto? Ibeno? These are town class boats.

The Nigerian Navy has a naming system for its vessels. Frigates are usually named thunder. For example, NNS Obuma (obuma = thunder in Efik), NNS Aradu (Aradu = thunder in Hausa), NNS Okpabana (okpabana - thunder in Igala), NNS Thunder (thunder = thunder in English).

Landing ship tanks are usually named after crocodiles, for example, NNS Ambe (ambe = crocodile in Tiv), NNS Offiom (offiom = crocodile in Efik) and NNS Kada (kada = crocodile in Hausa).

Our old corvettes, NNS Dorina (Hausa), NNS Otobo (Kalabari), NNS Erinomi (Yoruba) and NNS Enyimiri (Igbo) were also named after hippopotamus , while our new corvettes have English names (NNS Centenary, NNS Unity).

There is a class of patrol boats that are named after towns (and ethnic groups). Some famous examples include:

NNS Ibadan and NNS Ogoja: NNS Ibadan was a minesweeper/patrol boat that was involved in the Civil War. It was in Calabar at the start of the war, so the Biafran Navy seized it. It was commanded by P.J. Odu. The Biafran Navy renamed it BNS Vigilance.

NNS Ibadan was involved in a battle with NNS Ogoja near Bonny. NNS Ogoja was commanded by Akin Aduwo, who would later become the chief of naval staff during the Shagari era. NNS Ogoja severely damaged NNS Ibadan and it caught fire.

The interesting thing was that Akin Aduwo and Paschal Odu were classmates at the academy. Aduwo got on his ship's public address system and told Odu to surrender and he would not be harmed. Instead Odu jumped off the burning ship and swam into the bush. Aduwo saw Odu many years later and asked him why he didn't surrender. Didn't he know that he would not be harmed? Odu replied that he knew that Aduwo would never harm him, but he couldn't speak for Aduwo's subordinates.

The Nigerian Navy put out the fire on NNS Ibadan and towed it to Lagos to present it to General Gowon.

NNS Badagry: is a patrol boat. In 2013 it was engaged in a gun battle with pirates that had captured an oil tanker. The pirates tried to escape and NNS Badagry killed 12 of them before the remaining 4 surrendered.

NNS Andoni is the first made in Nigeria seaward defence boat.

NNS Karaduwa is another made in Nigeria seaward defence boat.

NNS Ibeno was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday.

Others include NNS Sokoto, NNS Oji, NNS Bonny, NNS Bomadi, NNS Burutu and NNS Ose.

Dangote courage to embark on the project is choking, hence the appreciation he's getting.

All the presidential candidates were campaigning with the Dangote refinery in their minds.
