Why are buildings and towers always collapsing in Nigeria undecided. They keep buying poor material to construct rubbish.

We really have poor engineers in this country. Even graduates in mechanical engineering can’t even repair and fix a car.

Olodo engineers!! Shame!!

Why didn't the Authority be pro active and have security measures installed?

Also, regular sensitization of the impact of such acts help too.

For sure you didn't read the news. You read the headline and rushed to comment for FTC but you eventually made a mess with your comment...

Activities of vandals caused the collapse, not due to poor engineering....

What a shame!

Well, she's wrong basically, but right in a way.
Better engineering could result in a more resilient system where threats are known after all the purpose of engineering is to make things work by overcoming obstacles.

Take for example bridges in Abuja used to have metal railings but repeated vandalism has resulted in some works being changed to concrete ones. It is a matter of thinking outside the box and the electricity company had better start doing that going forward. Change materials, change designs, change monitoring and security..... do something different. As the bad man in the movie Bad Boys said, 'keep em guessing'.

Because doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is incompetence. There will always be thieves everywhere in the world till the end of time. That is guaranteed.

I agree with you to a large extent.
For me what I think is that the security needs to be beefed up and the community citizens also need to be responsible for these installations.

If you change the materials, the vandals will still go for the new materials. There is a market for almost everything or every material. You will be shocked to realize... The vandals go to any length in their ingenuity, be it reasonable or not. This is Nigeria where things defy the logic you stated in your comment. You wonder how people still remove cable and other components from an energised transformer. Sometimes they die while at it and other times they succeed... Nigeria is tough and peculiar...

Beef up security, shoot vandals at sight, let the community be protective of those installations... Take tougher measures...

If there was power in the first place, the vandals would not have been able to vandalize the Towers for fear of electrocution. So the ball is in TCN's court, simple.

You really need to go back to school, the towers were vandalised and you're talking about poor material. How does your comments relate?

I was merely responding to the post talking about inadequate engineering and vulnerability of installations which is entirely correct. Where safety or security or importance is high on the agenda it is up to engineering to respond. It doesn't depend on other factors for succour. Good quality thinking, planning and execution particularly going forward is the solution.

Another example. The relatively new American embassy in Abuja is leaps ahead of older embassy complexes built in other countries and in Nigeria in terms of security. The place is like a fortress. Engineered to combat the realities of terrorism. That is how to respond. Not just depending on their hosts, they too have done their part.

In the Niger-Delta, subsea and swamp pipelines are now being buried instead of left exposed to make it more difficult for vandals and saboteurs. That is an engineering response.

To say the distribution company will continue erecting those towers the way they have done for the past 50 years and depend on the community to secure THEIR business is just wishful thinking and smacks of unseriousness. It won't happen. No serious company that sees its business as critical does that.

I feel they still wear this toga of government which is patronizing and says, 'if you break it, its is YOUR business, it is your loss'. The kind of attitude that renders a lot of things un-serviceable in Nigeria. They had better start thinking hard to protect their business.

The vandals can only be ob!!!!d!!!!!0ts

The only people that can do this to get rich quick and cutting corners without minding if lives would be lost or that people would suffer, are Obi people. No cap.

They don’t think of the consequences of their actions,. Imagine some said they were protesting to end SARS and then went ahead to arson several public transport buses in Lagos. Smh

Jennyclay, it’s obvious that either you cannot read or cannot comprehend or both. Didn’t you read the “ The towers located in the Obafemi Owode area of Ogun State were all massively vandalized, leading to their collapse”. It’s poor readers and illiterate graduates like you that Nigeria have and it’s the reason for your joblessness.

Go back and read the Memo again.

Chaii , I pity the years you spent in school
,you did not understand what you read because what you typed here doesn't relate with it

Problem with people like you is
that you don't use that white thing
inside your skull💀 which is called brain.

You simply swallow anything you read
without questioning.

From the pictures in this article, my sharp
brain can tell me this is a case of bad
materials, not vandals.

Have you ever seen a structure that
just collapses on the top while the lower
supporting structures are basically still
intact❓

The authorities concerned are trying to
hide the fact that they quoted for European
metals but bought cheap, substandard
Chinese materials and they are blaming
vandals who had nothing to do in this
matter.

Try & use your brain if you have❗️❗️😕😕😕
