it's funny how this is coming today after I received a call for a job offer with an open cheque.

The only issue is that I don't fully understand the industry but where I am, the work culture is great, the industry is great and I can grow the pay isn't upto what I would be telling this new person.

Damn!

If you have a fairly modest job, stay put to ganer work experience and career growth while having your exit plan in focus.

When you stay in the dark for long, you will now begin to see light,of course nobody want to remain in servitude forever,so follow your exit plan judiciously and exit at the time when the ovation is loudest.

Reminds me of someone I know who left a Big 4 Accounting firm to join Visionscape as a top shot.
He can go back to the Big 4 or another Big 4 with his experience. The challenge could be if there's no space at the moment for his level of experience but sooner or later, there would be one if he connects well with HR.

Case 4 was exactly my cousin's case. These are very true, not all job offers are big moves.

A colleague of mine left our organization with a Leave allowance (but you don't go on leave)
13th month with a bag of rice
Housing once every 2 years
Productivity allowance
Pension
HMO
Salary 100k
Mondays - Fridays

To another organization that will pay 350k with HMO, NHF & leave allowance( you go for leave) Monday to Saturday. After the first 8 months of paying him 350k, they dropped the offer to 60k reason being that the company is not making money.

Lol Visionscape,is that not the audio waste management company Ambode gave Lagos contract to that was scrapped after his exit.

It's good to look and project well before you leap. But I'm sure that by now that person would have found another good offer.

Big4 hardly disengage people except for serious infractions. It's a one-man organisation where you just fire and hire at will.

Every action of hiring and firing will surely be evaluated at some point

I agree with you Op. But flipping the coin, it's also not good to remain in one's comfort zone. Risk must be taken if we will advance in life.

As you opined, we need to pray for direction and God's leading.

Shine your eyes
100K by 8 months = 800K
350K by 8 months = 2.8M

You, on your 100K, will need to work for more than one year and six months without touching your salary before you can bridge the gap in earnings. While you're working for this period, your colleague (who I assume is wise enough to have resigned at that point) could get a 450K job (using his previous earning of 350K as leverage to bargain with a new firm) - while you're here 'thanking God' for saving you and simultaneously mocking your colleague online.

My brother you have said it all.
Add value and move up.

For me there is nothing like job security. You get into and organisation add value and move up. Don't sit down one place in the name of job security. Most times as you move, you add more value, experience and exposure as well as increased renumeration.
I recently had a offer of 500k but i turned it down because it would tie me down and it seams more of a routine job.

All you people keep missing the most important thing which is value. And am not talking about doing masters o. With Value comes money.
Certifications seams better but beyond this always try to be a problem solver that way you can never run out of Job. If your friend is that good at what he does he would have easily gotten another job. You can't tell me you are a sales person that was able to increase sales by 50% and you dey tell me say this same person can't secure another job with a bigger company easily. Baba talk another thing. With that profile and connection he should be able to secure another job easily.
Moving from company to company is a sure way to gain exposure and add value and increase salary.

You talk as if good jobs are in abundance in Nigeria. What magic do you expect from a sales executive to increase sales by 50% if the company's products are not moving well in the markets. If distributors and wholesalers complain very low demand or low patronage of a company's products in their warehouse or supermarkets, will the sales executive force them to still buy?

The prayer of most sales rep is that their company's products should be well accepted by buyers in the markets. Or else, you will really struggle.

Yes there are good jobs in Nigeria trust me when i say this. Most times job seekers doesn't possess there relevant skills for some roles. Companies what's someone that will add value to their system not someone to come and dow what they have been doing hitherto. That's why companies wants that guy that has worked in other company because they believe you will bring in that new idea to help them solve problems systematically and efficiently.
And also yes. That's the job of a sales executive. To be able to market the company's products. Come up with plans, ideas, methodologies, strategies in selling the products. There are sales men doing +100% in sales. Its more about strategy
