I have applied for more than 100+ jobs since i graduated, nothing come out yet. I still believe that one day , I will no longer be poor, I will move from grass to grace to a place of prosperity. I'm 30 with nothing to show,. But my blessings is coming.
My prayers is that God should take away this frustration / depression am passing through away from me

LEARN MULTIPLE SKILLS, ON THE SIDE KEEP APPLYING. STRIVE TO BE THE BOSS OF YOURSELF EVENTUALLY OR ELSE YOU DONT HAVE PLANS TO BE RICH AND SUCCESSFUL. MAKE THAT YOUR END GOAL.

BUT IF YOU ARE OKAY WITH EARNING PEANUTS FOR DONKEY YEARS, STICK TO YOUR JOB WHEN YOU EVENTUALLY GET ONE

NO CAP, BUT CURRENTLY I CANT EVEN WORK IN A COMPANY FOR 500K MONTHLY. ITS MEAGRE. I AM MY BOSS NOW. HALLELUJAH!!

If you are not connected just go learn work and keep your qualification, else Nigeria will frustrate your life and waste your time.

You need to work on your CV.

Or better still be on LinkedIn Platform to know how to better your CV.

I don't need to understand fam. I no dey ever apply to Nigerian employers at home or abroad. I guess hiring connected applicants over competent applicants explains why our businesses never last long

It's complete waste of time if you are not connected.
You have to totally erase this mindset.

Instead, focus on honing your skill and acquiring experience.

If companies need experts to solve their problems, connections become useless.

Now you get it. A recommendation letter is considered higher than your certifications and Competence in most of the Nigerian SMEs. The sad reality is that it's already finding it's way into the so called Multinationals. There are more qualified people than there are jobs. Whatever qualification you claim to have, someone else (Maybe 10 or even 15) possess it too

Have you consulted any CV expert (paid or free) to work with you? Is your CV properly written? Is it generic or tailored to your desired role? Do you have the right qualifications for the role you are applying for? Are the roles you are applying for a right fit for you?

The 100 jobs you applied for, are they same role? If no, did you use the same CV to apply for all of them? Did you follow to the letter the specified formats and modes of application as stated by each employer? Do Do you send one mail to different companies? Do you forward mails used for application A to application B? Is your email address official (name.surname)? Is the content of your mail official? Is the content correct?

So many questions.

Check what you need to improve on and work on it. People are getting jobs in Nigeria everyday.

Goodluck.

Yes, a very big waste of time.

Instead strengthen your relationship.
Re: Is Applying For Jobs In Nigeria, A Waste Of Time? by matrixme(m): 3:30pm On May 26, 2023
My brother, let me be sincere with you, you are not wasting your time. You're just not qualified enough. Employers prefer experience over sentiments unlike Peter Obi supporters. With my years of tailored experience, 95% of all interviews I go for always result in a positive response. I'm the one that usually reject some offers self. If you're not part of the team "how can me a graduate be earning 30,000?" If you gather enough experience with those less paying jobs, you're doing a good work on your CV. Don't be like Chinedu, who wants to be governor without being a councillor first huh

I don't agree that it is getting into multinationals. For contractor roles at multinationals, maybe. But for direct hires I am almost certain they hire the most competent person rather than the most connected person. At least that has been my experience with some of Nigeria's top employers

Lol! See this one.......
When there's opening for Casual/Contract staffs, the departmental heads usually bring thier people to fill it, of course they would know how to do the job after the 6-month company training. These contract staffs eventually gets to be permanent staffs especially due to recommendations of heads with in the Company.
I was working with them for free so as to garner experience, everyone in the department and factory were praising my attitude to work, dedication and hardwork. Sometimes, I don't even go for Lunch untill 3:00pm when I finish all the day's Lab Work.
My Head of Dept once said he has never seen a dedicated person like me, the HR too called me on several occasion to praise me.
All these while I wasn't getting paid, all I wanted was exposure meanwhile, there are other Exposure guys that are getting stipend yet carefree about everything.
Guess what, when there's internal advertisement for a vacant contract post, you will just see a new person the next Monday as the new "Quality officer", "Analyst", whatsoever, this person is usually from a particular tribe and most often is connected to a certain head.
Currently, if you apply for even SIWES, EXPOSURE or you are posted there by NYSC and you don't know any one there, your application will be dumped in the trash with in milliseconds. That place is currently preoccupied by 80% from a certain tribe (Not being tribalistic, just stating my experience)

This is just my experience at NESTLE. I'm not ignorant of what I'm saying. Things are getting worse daily.

This is what you get when there are about 80 qualified people for one job. Picking the "most competent " is a myth in this scenario.
Did you read this in my post that you quoted: "For contractor roles at multinationals, maybe. But for direct hires I am almost certain they hire the most competent person"?

A first class king can fix his candidate in any multinational companies especially those in his territory. I'm not even talking about politicians or top business person o. I think connection is almost everywhere

A first class king can only fix a competent candidate as a direct hire. I don't consider Contractor roles as direct hires

I believe provided the person has certificate to present. A first class king can fix such person up as a direct permanent staff

Nestle Nigeria is something else currently. It hasn't gotten to the Headquarters because they are maintaining production and income.
