Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has explained that the state government took over the land of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) because the corporation refused to maintain the buildings on the land.

Insisting that the land was taken under public policy, the governor said his administration used part of the property to construct the South-South liaison office of the Federal Judicial Institute.

Wike spoke during the foundation laying ceremony of a new Federal High Court complex, also located within the converted NRC land, located along Forces Avenue, Old GRA, Port Harcourt.

The governor declared that the adjacent building, also owned by NRC which has just been recently painted, instead of being rebuilt, will be taken over.

He assured that the public policy order will be signed to revoke their ownership of the land.

Wike declared that the new Federal High Court complex when completed will reflect the quality and standard known of projects it has always delivered to the judiciary.

The governor made an offer to the federal government asking it to consider relinquishing the premises of the current Federal High Court to the state government to enable it build more structures for the State High Court.

He said, in exchange, the state government will build befitting residences for judges of the Federal High Court, which will be within the Old GRA, Port Harcourt, and they would cease paying rents anymore.

Laying the foundation stone for the new complex, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, thanked the Rivers State government for the benevolence, and said the administration of justice will become more efficient and effective.

Such efficiency, Tsoho noted, is what will certainly strengthen the judiciary because without such capacity democracy cannot also survive.

First of all, I doubt it is legal for the state govt to take over FG property under whatever order.
Secondly, this hypocrite gov is going about using money to curry the favour of the judiciary. I'm sure he's one of those who opposed financial autonomy for judiciary and legislature so that they can use gestures like this to buy the judiciary.
This shouldn't be encouraged under any guise. What belongs to caesar must be given to caesar without making it look like some form of benevolence or favour

Yes. That should not stop a leader from taking bold decisions that will positively affect his own people.

Wike really challenged and won FG on some bad and unfair policies.

Oga your time is up, them asslickers might still stick around for another 2 months maximum.
Then you won't see them anymore.

But after then you would realize that there were governors before you.

You will be replaced someday or the other. People want the best, it doesn’t bother what you have been doing for them.. someday it will all go in vain.

Hmmmm.

One wonders where he finds the powers to take over FG lands.

Wike bye bye!

On the 29th, he will be driven to his preferred location, where he calls his home. Because he will have enough security details, he will feel as if he is still in power.

He will wake up on the 30th to find out that there is no more Chief of staff; no more state executive council meeting; no more commissioners to command; no more LG chairmen and kings to command; no Rotimi Amaechi to yell at with power; no political opponent to threaten with power; nobody’s property to seize or destroy with political power, etc. By the morning of the 30th of May, 2023, he will be naked with no power to hire and fire at will. His threats will amount to nothing and he will become very vulnerable. He will start using the famous words “WHEN I WAS IN POWER”. His stooge may rise up against him, disappoint or fail him completely.

For me Wike lost a lot of respect. He became an embodiment of power drunkenness. In claiming to defend others, he simply showed that he was wholely on self preservation. He simply was fighting for his own survival. He could have taken one of the senate seats if he wanted, but his error of judgement with the presidency beclouded his political sense of reasoning.

Nigerians must be careful with such enfant terrible leaders. We should only vote for leaders who aside from making our societies better, also ensure that there is absolute peace among the people.
