SANWO-OLU COMMISSIONS 144 UNITS RESETTLEMENT CENTRE

May 26, 2023

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described preparation for unpleasant events, even when we pray for such to be averted, as essential to building a resilient society, saying that his government has a heart and plan for everyone.

Sanwo-Olu stated this at the commissioning of 144 Home Units at the Lagos State Resettlement Centre, Agbowa, Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA on Thursday.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Engr. Abiola Okanlawon Olowu, the Governor expressed his sense of fulfillment in the delivery of the project meant to alleviate the unpleasant circumstances caused by unforeseen events and cater to the immediate shelter needs of displaced people.

His words: “The issue of accommodation for people in distress is a great challenge. When people are involved in emergencies such as natural disasters, the problem of shelter is usually a critical one. The pain of such persons is usually beyond comprehension. However, when the accommodation challenge is resolved, healing can commence with the help of God”.

“Ours is a government that knows the pain that accompanies the loss of homes. It is the height of affliction for a man or a woman to be stripped of his dignity as a result of disasters as such a person is exposed to the harsh weather, become less resilient and more susceptible to challenges of all kinds. Destitution and homelessness are familiar words that could be rephrased with our kind and thoughtful actions”.

Mr. Governor thanked the good people of Agbowa for granting the government the opportunity of siting the valuable project within their domain while he prayed that the Centre will usher in more prosperity for the people of the area.

Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai revealed that the 144 Home units comprise 96 units of one-bedroom and 48 units of two-bedroom apartments in eight blocks.

“It is a spacious and conducive environment sited on approximately 14,400 square metres of land. It is carefully designed to accommodate over 600 people and thoughtfully equipped with basic amenities such as a functioning electricity connection, street lights, water treatment plant and reticulation – overhead and ground water tanks, perimetre fence, two entrance gatehouses and 24-hour security, landscaping and beautification, road network, walkways and drainages”, he said.

Chairman of Ikosi Ejinrin LCDA, Hon. Raji Wale Anomo expressed the appreciation of the people of Ikosi-Ejinrin to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the numerous projects executed in the LCDA, which is a testament to the resolve of the administration to spread infrastructural development across the State.

“The re-election of Mr. Governor was a testimony to the great development the administration has brought to the State”, he said.

The Regent of Agbowa Kingdom, High Chief Shakiru Kunle Odufowora described Governor Sanwo-Olu as a committed leader who has a genuine interest in the welfare of all Lagosians.

LAGOS ISLAND AGOG AS SANWO-OLU COMMISSIONS DUALISED ADENIJI ADELE ROAD, TAPA STREET

May 26, 2023

•Governor reopens remodelled Iga Iduganran PHC, inaugurates new health centre in Sura

Tumultuous crowd of Lagos Island residents trooped into the streets, on Friday, to treat Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu – their son – to a triumphant homecoming, as the Governor inaugurated multiple projects in the area.

Sanwo-Olu commissioned the newly upgraded Adeniji Adele Road and the rehabilitated Tapa Street in the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), ending the period of hardship faced by commuters in transiting from the eastern end into Isale Eko.

The formal opening of the road project drew spontaneous excitement from the residents, who heaved a sigh of relief from perennial flooding and traffic congestion.

The Governor also officially reopened the redeveloped and upgraded Iga Iduganran Primary Healthcare Centre in Isale Eko, which was razed in 2020 by rampaging hoodlums in the aftermath of protests against police brutality.

Sanwo-Olu said the upgrading of Adeniji Adele Road was part of the steps being taken for the extensive regeneration of public infrastructure across Lagos Island, which, he said, would start soon from the northern part of the area.

The Governor said the Adeniji Adele Road was expanded from a single-lane to a dual semi rigid pavement carriageway. He said the road infrastructure was reinforced with concrete drains, culverts, median barriers and fitted with LED-powered streetlights.

He said: “Adeniji Adele Road is of great importance to the people and vehicular movement on Lagos Island. It is a strategic road that traverses administrative boundaries of Lagos Island East LCDA and Lagos Island Local Government Area. We did not choose the road for upgrade based on emotion, but out of the need for regeneration of decrepit infrastructure on Lagos Island.

“This necessity made us to redesign the road from a single lane to four-lane dual carriageway. We also extended the intervention to Tapa Street to ease pressure on the arterial roads. Today, we are handing over the infrastructure to the community. This ceremony further demonstrates our belief and resolve to ensure there is meaningful improvement in the metropolis. This is part of the beautification our Government has brought back into this community.”

Sanwo-Olu reiterated his pledge to continue to deliver on his campaign promises to the residents, stressing that his administration had successfully constructed and rehabilitated over 1,600 roads across the State. He said the State Government achieved construction of 141 new roads which spanned 700 kilometres.

The Governor said his Government had kept faith with the State’s development master plan and his administration’s development agenda. He said similar regeneration work was being carried out in Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Alimosho, Agege and other Kosofe to open the State for connectivity and enhance commercial opportunities for Lagos.

He said: “The regeneration we are talking about will happen in Idumagbo, Ojo-Giwa, Anikantamo, and Pelewura. This development is a testimonial to our resolve to do the best for our people. I enjoined our citizens not to turn these roads to market or dumpsite. The roads are done to ease traffic and enhance connectivity within Lagos Island.”

Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, said in addition to creating new jobs and livelihood opportunities for residents in the area, the projects had eliminated recurrent flooding on the arterial road.

She said the Adeniji Adele Road would facilitate easy access to the new Massey Children’s Hospital being built along the road.

“Prior to the upgrade of the Adeniji Adele Road, the State Government attempted several interventions on the corridor which brought temporary succour to road users. These palliatives were not sustainable, which led to almost total breakdown of the infrastructure with accompanying drainage failure. The completion of the projects demonstrates the effort of this administration to support businesses, promote economic development, and ultimately improve the standard of living of Lagosians,” Adeyoye said.

Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, led residents to the grand reopening of Iga Iduganran PHC redeveloped by Rebuild Lagos Trust Fund and Zenith Bank.

Sanwo-Olu said the scope of health services being provided in the PHC had been expanded from its initial capacity, upgrading the facilities to a semi second medical centre.

The facility is fitted with a dedicated power source to provide constant electricity throughout the period of operation daily.

The Governor said: “I am handling this upgraded Primary Health Centre back to the community to continue to serve people’s medical needs. This intervention is part of our rebuilding efforts to restore all public facilities destroyed by hoodlums three years ago.

“We prioritised this project because it is a key component of the objectives to improve human capital. We are delivering quality road infrastructure to reduce the time you spend in traffic. As we leave here, we are handing over schools. Education is part of human capital development.”

Oba Akiolu urged residents to take responsibility of maintaining the PHC, urging them not to allow hoodlums gathered close to the facility.

Sanwo-Olu also commissioned another Primary Healthcare Facility built in Sura by chairman of Lagos Island East LCDA, Hon. Muibi Folawiyo.

The Governor praised the council boss for expanding access to quality healthcare in the area. He urged other council chairmen to emulate the example, stressing: “we must raise the capacity of our PHCs.”

SANWO-OLU COMMISSIONS HOUSING SCHEMES, SEEKS PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATION

May 26, 2023

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has charged private investors to partner with the state Government in bridging the housing deficit in the State, as the government alone cannot do it.

The Governor stated that the main goal of his administration under the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, through the fourth Pillar M – Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy is to substantially reduce the housing deficit through different strategies which includes partnering with the private sector to deliver a significant number of housing units that are affordable, safe and decent to people residing in Lagos State.

Speaking at the Official Commissioning of Ndubuisi Kanu Housing Estate, Gbagada, Kosofe, Lagos, Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, disclosed that his administration had in the last four years succeeded in completing 19 housing estates in different parts of the State in spite of the challenges.

According to the Governor, “In spite of all these challenges, I am delighted to note that we have succeeded in completing 19 housing estates in different parts of the state including this particular estate. In the past four years, a lot has been done by our administration in the housing sector through the cumulative efforts of the Ministry of Housing, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC) and very importantly the private sector.

He noted that providing adequate, affordable and decent housing is a major challenge faced by megacities all over the world and that the state is faced with the additional challenge of limited land size with a huge population which, according to the 2016 statistics, increases with a daily influx of 123,840 people. A large percentage of this number is here to seek economic opportunities and therefore do not intend to leave in a hurry”.

The Governor said his administration has successfully converted the challenge of population increase into a good opportunity to serve the people and display the capability to respond to citizens’ needs.

Sanwo-Olu recalled that during the first electioneering campaign as a gubernatorial candidate, he made it clear that the provision of housing will be a priority for his administration, and a major deliverable under the “Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy” pillar of our T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, saying that “our housing provision strategy has been focused on attending to the shelter needs of all.

Sanwo-Olu stated that the commissioning is a project initiated to provide more units of decent housing for Lagosians residing in the metropolis, adding that “this is one of the many demonstrations of this administration’s firm commitment to bridge the housing deficit in this urban city and also to fulfil the hopes and dreams of many Lagosians to own a home”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai said that the Lagos State Government has consistently strengthened its efforts to actualise its housing agenda with the aim of making decent homes available and accessible to Lagosians irrespective of their social class or income level.

He added that the newly commissioned Ndubuisi Kanu estate has 72 homes units in six blocks which will bring valuable addition to the home stock of the state, provide another livable community, add value to the beautification of the environment, and serve as a catalyst for improved economic activities within the community.

He noted that the ultimate goal is to make Lagos comparable to 21st century economies all over the world in terms of availability of beautiful communities with adequate infrastructure where people can live and call their homes. The Governor added that “the homes are subsidised to ensure the state bridges the wide gap of housing challenges across the metropolis”.

In his goodwill message, the Executive Chairman, Kosofe Local Government Area, Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe said that the administration of Sanwo-Olu has focused on reviving the provision of comfortable infrastructure and good housing schemes for the people of the state.

He added that the state government will continue to promote urban harmony and set new standards for diplomatic development across Nigeria, saying that “one of the key strategies this government has embraced is a global housing policy under which people can become house owners through an inclusive financial system based on their incomes which will support a sustainable system where homes are consistently made available to a large number of Lagosians”.

SANWO-OLU COMMISSIONS DUAL CARRIAGEWAY, BRIDGE LINKING OGUDU TO ALAPERE

May 25, 2023

•Governor inaugurates new markets in Ketu, 12 other projects in Lagos East

A newly designed access roadway linking four local councils in Lagos State has opened to vehicular traffic, solving a major traffic problem and ending decades-long wait for the beneficiary communities.

Crowd of jubilant residents of Kosofe Local Government Area joined Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, at the ceremony where Ogudu-Alapere Link Road and a bridge were officially commissioned.

The dual carriage infrastructure cuts through Ogudu into Alapere in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and drops on Lagos-Ibadan Highway. At its Ogudu end, the link road leads motorists to connect Ikorodu Road.

The Ogudu-Alapere Link Road, designed with interlocked concrete blocks, was part of 12 other capital projects commissioned by the Governor in Lagos East Senatorial District, as part of pre-inauguration activities lined up to usher in Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

Besides, the Governor commissioned the newly rehabilitated Prince Adesoji Ajose Street in Ogudu, just as he inaugurated two international markets in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA.

Sanwo-Olu said the delivery of the road project testified to his administration’s prioritisation of purposeful governance. He stressed his Government deployed a two-pronged approach towards addressing gridlocks being experienced in the area by prioritising rehabilitation of strategic roads and link bridges, as well the development of new roads.

He said: “As a Government, we have worked assiduously to bring respite and succour to road users in the state by putting in place an enduring framework for the delivery of road infrastructure, as well as provision of supporting drainage infrastructure to sustain these roads. Ogudu Community in Kosofe Local Government Area is a strategic settlement with a fast-growing population with a huge need for infrastructural renewal. This prompted our administration to embark upon the construction of a Reinforced Concrete deck on a pile culvert to address the challenge of flooding.

“The effort has resulted in significant progress, as we are gathered here today to hand over the Ogudu–Alapere Link Road and Bridge, and Prince Adesoji Ajose street in Ogudu. Providing easy connectivity to Ikorodu Road, Third Mainland Bridge and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of the benefits recorded by this intervention. This extraordinary journey of commitment, trust, and partnership for economic growth and development has once again yielded a milestone achievement, as we have not only improved traffic efficiency on this axis, we have also lowered the environmental impact of flooding in Ogudu.”

Sanwo-Olu reiterated that his administration would continue to work on infrastructure renewal programme to improve the quality of life of the citizens and enhance socio-economic development.

He urged residents of the beneficiary communities to protect the road facilities and ensure the drainage system was maintained and free of refuse.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, said prior to the intervention, the existing roads were without drainage facilities and disconnected by an existing wetland, thereby subjecting the communities to perennial flooding with consequent negative impact on transportation.

“The delivery of both the 545m long Ogudu-Alapere Link Road with an average with of 14.6meter and a 22-meter Bridge, as well as the 60m-long Prince Ajose Street, would serve as good alternative roads for motorists, especially the residents of Ogudu GRA Estate Phases I & Il, Ogudu-Ojota and the third axial underpass. This will in turn help in reducing travel time and man-hour loss in traffic gridlock around Ogudu Roundabout,” she said.

Kosofe LGA chairman, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe, described the intervention as historic, noting that Sanwo-Olu became the first Governor of the State to open the link route to other communities.

He urged the Governor to accelerate construction work on pending State projects in the Local Government Area.

While opening Ikosi International Market and International Fruit Market in Ikosi Ketu built by Ikosi-Isheri LCDA chairman, the Governor said commercial activities in markets had a great impact on the State economy. Building a befitting environment for traders, Sanwo-Olu said, remained a noble initiative to drive grassroots democracy and socio-economic growth.

The Governor said: “I commend the vision and leadership which facilitated the delivery of these two ultra-modern markets befitting the status of our State and resonate with the vision of a Greater Lagos. The impact the markets have had on the economy of Lagos is invaluable, as they serve as focal points of economic activities in the State. These are the real examples of initiatives of grassroots democracy and socio-economic growth. The interventions are part of several examples of people-oriented and development projects that have been initiated and actualised by local councils across the State.”

Chairman, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Hon. Samiat Bada, said the markets were built in the quest to improve the standard of trading and to serve as alternative to existing market.

She said the delivery of the markets also solved major security problems in the area, as the land on which the structures were constructed used to be the hideout for miscreants terrorising the citizens and passersby.

She said: “The markets were built in phases. The first phase was commissioned last year by Mr. Governor, which consisted of key-clamp shops (fruit section) where all old occupants and fruit-market shop owners were conveniently relocated, with more than 3,000 units of spacious key clamps. Today, I am delighted that the second phase has been completed and being commissioned by Mr. Governor. The shops will be allotted to old users.”

Other projects commissioned in Lagos East Senatorial District include Ndubuisi Kanu Housing Estate in Gbagada, Lagos Homs in Odo-Onosa Ayandelu, Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, a resettlement scheme in Agbowa, Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, and a jetty with waiting shelter and shoreline protection at Offin, Ikorodu, a jetty at Ito-Omu in Epe.

Sanwo-Olu also opened Shams-el- Deen Junior Grammar School (Education District II) in Ikorodu, Elepe Community Junior High School (Education District II) in Ikorodu and Kosofe Senior College (Education District II), Kosofe.

In Lagos West, the Governor commissioned Water Treatment Plant at Gbaji-Yeke in Badagry.

Today, we officially reopened the redeveloped and upgraded Iga Iduganran Primary Healthcare Centre in Isale Eko.

The Iga Iduganran PHC was redeveloped by the Rebuild Lagos Initiative and the scope of health services being provided in the Healthcare Centre has been expanded from its initial capacity.

We have handed it back to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Highness, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu and the community to continue to serve the residents' medical needs.

To cap an eventful yet fulfilling day, we commissioned the Oke-Odo Junior High School (Education District IV) at Ebute-Metta in Lagos Mainland.

The facilities in the newly commissioned Oke-Odo Junior High School are 15 blocks of classrooms, a laboratory, a Staff room, a Sick Bay, a Principal Office, a Vice Principal Office, 36 toilets, and a multi-purpose sports facility for lawn tennis, volleyball, basketball, and badminton.

We will stop at nothing to ensure that the very best is pushed forward at all times.

Our investment in the education sector and in the future of our children have continued to yield the desired outcome through the good performance of Lagos State public school students at both State and National competitions.

We are geared towards attaining a global standard for effective learning and teaching. That is our goal for education in Lagos.

This is the seasoning of commissioning projects by performing governors.

When is the Useless Supreme Court Governor of my beloved state going to commission quality projects?
