Let LP continue, we need them to be the voice that keeps government on its toes for the next 8 years. They should keep the noise up

“He was merely communicating the status quo, considering that the previous administration’s budget for fuel subsidy was planned and approved to last for only the first half of the year.

“Effectively, this means that by the end of June, the Federal Government will be without funds to continue the subsidy regime, translating to its termination.
Agreed, provision was made to last for only the first half of the year but are you aware that if he didn't made that irresponsible pronouncement "subsidy is gone" right there on the podium, we won't be here talking about buying fuel at 600 to 700 a litre when we still have one more month to go

You lack facts!!!

What good has this fuel subsidy done us?

IPMAN collect #400B monthly and as we speak, the FG is owing them #13trillion on fuel subsidy... how are we to justify this?

If the money has been used judiciously spent on major sector, we will not be where we are today!
Lol. Do we need to go back and forth on this? Did you read what I wrote? Were we born yesterday to know that petrol subsidy is laden with corruption? The point is that communication of policy issues is key, his office as admitted the misrepresentation. Nobody would have stopped him from removing it eventually, but not without first defining 'how'

Who gives a flying fvck about their condemnation! A party that completely lacks experience about national matters seeking relevance.

LP should be planning towards 2031 which still would be an effort in futility, as power would be returning to the North.
You're a hypocrite. No wonder you were on the other thread engaging and arguing with everybody, trying vehemently to defend Tinubu's blunder in announcing subsidy removal without making any arrangement whatsoever to cushion the terrible consequential effect. Has LP said anything different from what is necessary? Hate- filled hypocrite claiming sophistication.

Lol. In essence PBT copied PO? Well, the party has jut interpreted what they meant by 'immediately', as it is their right to do so. If you feel it doesn't need interpretation, why are SANs in court over 'AND'? Naija na cruise, we are all adjusting, no need throwing banters. To be candid, nobody has questioned PBT's intention, he only did it the wrong way undermining the 'Nigerian' factor in everything.
PBT as done nothing, Nigerians are just there own enemy and the media derive gain & traffic misleading the public than sensitizing the public.
According to the 2023 budget made & implemented by Buhari administration, subsidy was granted an extension of 6months in that budget, meaning subsidy ends officially by june ending. BAT just state the truth
My annoyance with Tinubu is that he should have kept quiet on that issue until subsidy expiration .. knowing Nigerians are greed selfish humans that will mess up every good intention for selfish gains, everybody want to smart each other, the petrol stations are trying to outsmart consumers the way consumers are trying to outsmart them tew.

Now the gainers are still the marketers that have pocketed subsidy for june, but Nigerians are now buying at unsubsidized prices. double gain for the oil marketers while the people remain the consistent losers becos we always want to out smart each other

I totally disagree with the leadership of the LP on this condemnation issue. Fuel subsidy is an unnecessary evil perpetuated by the demons in the APC for 8 years after calling it a fraud without having a zilch about its intricacies.

Now if the same APC is cornered to dispose of it on accountxof the associated economic implications, then so be it. After all, that is what a Peter Obi regime also planned to do.
THIS WAS WHAT OBI SAID ON SUBSIDY, WHY ARE THE NOW SPEAKING WITH BOTH MOUTH

Obi: Petrol subsidy is organised crime — it would go immediately I become president
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has described the petrol subsidy regime in Nigeria as “organised crime”.

Obi said this on Sunday during a town hall meeting organised by Channels Television.

Nigeria spent a total of N6.210 trillion on petrol subsidy, also called under-recovery shortfall, between 2013 to 2021.

Last year, the federal government announced that it will stop spending on subsidy from June 2023.

The LP presidential candidate said if he is elected into office, the payments will stop immediately.

“They have removed it. That is what they’ve done. But I can assure you, it will go immediately. Subsidy, I have said it before is organised crime and I will not allow it to stay a day longer,” Obi said.

“What they are telling you is not what it is. Half of what is being mentioned is not subsidy. First is that we consume the quantity that is not supposed to be consumed here.

“We are the same population as Pakistan. They consume below 50 percent of what we consume.

“So, the first half, I will remove it so we can save the money.”

The LP candidate, who flayed the country’s public debt stock, added that the money spent on petrol subsidy should be channelled into social development.

“Look at this year’s budget. Education, which is the highest since this government came, is about N2 trillion. Health, which is the highest since this government came, is about N1.5 trillion. Then infrastructure, which is roads and everything, is about N1 trillion,” he said.

“These three critical development areas are receiving N4.5 trillion. Subsidy is N3.6 trillion half year. So, if it’s a full year, it is about N7 trillion. Which country will invest more in subsidy than education and health and even roads? It doesn’t make sense.”

Fuel subsidy was already removed months ago.

In the 2023 National budget, Subsidy provision ends this June. So there would be a need for a supplementary budget immediately if Subsidy is to extend beyond June. This supplementary budget will have to be presented by a new Executive Government and passed by a new National assembly which doesn't even have a senate leader yet.

Imagine the chaos at the end of June when everyone suddenly realises there's no subsidy for July. Pandemonium everywhere.

So you see, it's best Tinubu says it now so that everyone gets to know what is going on.
