No Going Back On Proposed Nationwide Strike – NLC by Ofunaofu: 7:35pm On Jun 04, 2023
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has debunked speculations that it might back down on its proposed industrial action slated nationwide for Wednesday.

It said the only reason it would shelve the strike is when the Federal Government and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited NNPCL did the needful by returning to status quo on the fuel subsidy removal issue.

NLC declared the position in a statement by Benson Upah, Head of Information and Public Affairs on Sunday.

The workers’ body was reacting to a story in a national newspaper on Sunday.

It described the report as laughable and desperate attempt by enemies of the people to polarise Nigeria Labour Congress along ethnic or regional lines on an issue with a national spread.

According to Upah, “this scenario only plays in their imagination as Nigeria Labour Congress continues to be the biggest pan-Nigerian organisation united by a common vision/ mission and shared national values.”

“On the looming strike, we want to assure that all the affiliate unions of the Congress stand together with an unshakeable resolve to prosecute, come Wednesday, except the NNPC and Government do the needful.

“Whereas, primordial sentiments such as religion, region or ethnicity may be refuge for some, at the Nigeria Labour Congress, they have no place. What counts for us are issues such as the mindless and criminal increase in the pump price of pms whose burden will be borne by the already impoverished communities of the poor across Nigeria,” it stated.

NLC said the burden of the malevolent policy would not be borne by other segments of the country to the exclusion of the North or South-West, hence, there is no reason for those regions to back out of the strike.”

Recall that the President, Bola Tinubu had during his inaugural speech declared that the era of subsidy for petroleum products was gone, a development that has had ripple effect on the Nigerian polity since May 29, 2023.

cool

Tinubu's divide and rule is not going to work.

Peaceful protests is the right of the masses and Tinubu will have to ensure petrol is sold at subsidized rates till June ending while he makes palliatives available to Nigerian workers.

Nigerian workers deserves an increase in salaries/wages

Fuel price must go back to normal rate till June ending as signed by mr Failure a.k.a Buhari in the budget.

I am solidly behind this, suffering Nigerians are solidly behind NLC.

Can you imagine the rubbish ? Some people can't even afford two meals a day, this useless Tinubu government is coming to make matters worst. Roads are scanty because people can't afford transport fare to go about their business activities.

WHAT GOODLUCK & OKONJO IWEALA SAW 11YEARS (2012) AGO....TINUBU, BUHARI & THEIR APC IS JUST SEEING IT IN 2023...

THIS IS:
- A CLASSICAL CASE OF VISIONLESS LEADERSHIP.
- AN UNCONSCIOUSLY INCOMPETENT LEADERSHIP.
- A REINFORCEMENT OF BUHARI'S HATRED FOR NIGERIANS WHO ARE NOT AS EASY TO RULE AS COWS.

THIS IS POWER FOR THE SAKE OF POWER.. NOT FOR THE SAKE OF THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE..

INSTEAD OF PRIORITIZING SECURITY BY ENGAGING BANDITS & TERRORISTS... HE CHOSE TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING... BACKWARD!

Nonsense. Toothless dog called NLC.
The only time NLC had a say in national matters was when a woman led the union.

I have said is over and over. Until power is given to women we will continue going in cycles.

Like I said n I will say it again

Tinubu have to remove igbos from some key positions cos they will sabotage his government, where was this man during cashless policy?

He even supported cashless policy cos to him he believed that will make obi his fellow Igbo man win but now this guy is talking about protest for a week old government but didn’t say anything with d cashless policy that killed many people

I like how reno finished the guy on twitter, Tinubu has to b wary of the igbos

To those who intend to quote me, ask yourself how will it b different if it was peter obi that did it?
I guess the only problem here is that it was done by tinubu that u love to hate right?

Those politicising this must be buying fuel at 185 naira a liter. The pump price wasn't this high when Tinubu protested after Jonathan declared the removal of subsidy during his administration.

Tinubu isn't as wise as people are hyping him. He's only one of the regular politicians who applies smartness to his own game. He only succeed in enriching the oil marketers overnight. The profit each of them made in one week is enough to sustain them for at least, 2 years. Many of them that I know, have tank farms loaded with petrol bought at old rates and they're still selling old stock as we speak.

Tinubu should have said, subsidy will go but they'd need to meet with the stake holders and define the best way out of this, just to pamper oil marketers and allow them to exhaust their old stock before declaring the removal. Tinubu isn't wise at all. Nigeria isn't like lagos so, someone needs to tell him this. BRF can attest to this when he was given 3 portfolios , given his achievements in Lagos as governor. Nigeria is a large project. Its very easy to protest and criticise a leader. By the time you get there, you'd realise its no childsplay.

Today, I read that Angola cut( not removed) subsidy. That's how it should be, even if he plans to remove it at a later date, it should be gradual. Nigerians are suffering. People trekked a long distance today. I saw them. If you want to chase a mosquito from your scrotum, you apply sense otherwise, you'd hurt yourself and mosquito could still escape. The masses are at the receiving end right now. To those who are politicising it, keep suffering and smiling ok?

You removed subsidy without palliatives already in place? Common! I heard Osho Baba speak on channelstv this evening that vehicles wouid be provided as palliative but they won't come in overnight. Imagine!

This is what Tinubu should have done before this mess was heaped on the masses...

Selling off some of our Refineries to private individuals to complement dangote Refineries production efforts.

Stopping the NNPC from solely importing petroleum products. Government has no business running business. All they need do is creation of an enabling environment.

When I said Tinubu would be coming to favour the elites, they called me unprintable names. We are now buying petrol at a rate higher than what america sells per liter, without enjoying the benefits Americans are enjoying. There we are.
