Canadian Wife Travelling To Rural Nigeria by Nobody: 11:52pm On Mar 21, 2023 |
Hi - my wife plans to visit Nigeria for this first time in the next few months. The nature of her trip is rather sensitive, but her hope is to be able to visit rural areas, such as remote villages or farming communities. The current plan is for her to fly to Lagos and onwards into the countryside. Currently she is researching Ogun State given its location, but is open to other suggestions. At the moment she is looking to find a suitable company or person who can provide tour guide services - mainly to assist her with travel and language barriers etc. Can anyone recommend? There are some services listed online but it is difficult to know who is legitimate or not. Thanks! |

zoozl: Be careful, very very careful, I repeat. You and your wife are confidently setting yourselves up for all sorts, most of which aren't going to be very palatable. Wisdom is profitable to........? 9 Likes 1 Share |

ednut1: An individual at the consulate in London recommended against travel at this time due to the cash flow issues and election, but made no mention of kidnapping. Is it really an issue? |

zoozl: These are Nigerians here. The most bitterest of people you can come across in life. Watch them spew unfortunate advise about their country all because of hatred. |

Mumu08: Thank you Broda, see as our own people dey bash the same country dem dey chop and eat from. God helps @moozi your wife has done her research and I can hurriedly assure you she's safe. I went to university in that region and I'll tell you she's safe. Whatever research she embarks on will be met with open arms to assist. And pls move past these naysayers on here. Nigeria is a beautiful place. P.S every society comes with his challenges but I'll add to it one more time, your wife will be fine. 3 Likes |

zoozl: Ogun is not that safe. Young youths commit all sorts of altrocity there. The Eastern part like Enugu villages is safer if you can afford it. Just be very careful and why would she travel without you. Anything can happen in Nigeria and the security is not working. I did advice she stay behind 1 Like 1 Share |

zoozl:Hello, there are reputable companies in Nigeria that provide escort security services which will suit your wife's need for this journey. Best is to discuss with them ahead and on arrival in Lagos or Abuja, your wife can sign a contract with them. Nothing will happen to your wife. Check ASA security and contact them. https://security-asa.com Check Synergy Guards https://synergyguardsnigeria.com Check MacDon Securities No. 18 Bola Street, Anthony Village, Lagos State, Nigeria +234(0)898900 0213 +234(0)90600 2093 Check Techno Crimes Securities http://technocrimes.com.ng |

Nothing special. Just like travel advisory to any new country you are visiting as a tourist. Avoid standing out. Any areas she is traveling to, she should dress and look like the natives. If she is Caucasian which makes her stand out, then get tour guides, be discreet about her itinerary and she should be fine. Commonsense dictates you aren't flamboyant anywhere you aren't familiar with in the world. Night driving or journeys isn't encouraged because of poor lightening on most roads and lack of emergency services in most places if you run into road issues(car breaking down etc). She should get a driver if she needs to. Likely to get a Cab for less than $100 cab for a day's ride. There are lots of tour companies in Lagos. Njetours is one. Found their reviews on google very positive and you can do your research also to get others to curate a personal experience. I think if you are to go to the Southwest since she is researching Ogun already it would be nice to also visit maybe Ibadan or Oyo Town. There are fringes of farming communities on the outskirts of Ibadan and it is even host to IITA. She can make a stop at IITA which is a agricultural research institute. They would have much more detailed information about her areas of interest and be able to guide appropriately. These cities are just an extra hour and half away from Lagos and has train rides to Ibadan from Lagos now. IFe is also very cultural and has a lot of farming communities she would get value for what she is looking for by stopping in most villages along the route. But heads up they mostly do subsistence farming. Ignore the Social media hysteria, there are millions living in these regions who make their living out of these places without any fuss. Get reputable coys and you should be fine. 1 Like |

zoozl: Hello bro! I am available to provide tour guide service. I am based in Ogun state and work as a freelancer. Hit me up via my email address kenyem@ymail.com to enable us plan her coming. Thanks |
Re: Canadian Wife Travelling To Rural Nigeria by Nobody: 10:18am On Mar 22, 2023 |
Thank you for all the considered responses. It is useful to get a collection of varied opinions. @lonzo - thanks for the reassurance. @Eaganguolly - she would not want me to disclose the nature of her visit in a public forum. Thank you for the information - she will look into Enugu. @franchasofficia - this is extremely helpful, thank you very much. We will due due diligence and check these out to see if any are appropriate. @onegig - Yes, a personalised experience is preferential. Thank you for the information - very insightful. @rashfat - I will pass on your details to her. Thanks. 2 Likes 1 Share |

alakara: Kind of you to offer. My wife has made contact with a handful of agencies in Lagos but so far nobody has been able to help with her (admittedly unusual) request. If she is unable to find a suitable company then her next plan is to contact individuals about coming to an arrangement. |

Mindlog: I appreciate the heads-up. She is aware there is some degree of risk, and that the colour of her skin makes her a target. But she has been planning and researching this trip for two years, so little will change her mind. With luck, by the time she flies out, the cash-flow issues and election troubles will be in the past. |

zoozl: OP dont mind the idiots ranting here. The south west region which Ogun state is among is the safest part in Nigeria. Even all of them from the mud region resides here. Awon nusiance and refugge. The wife will find her time worthwhile here. |

Thanks all, for you input and words of advice. Perhaps things would be clearer if my wife's motivation for the trip was transparent, but it is not something I can share in a public forum. Regardless, I take everything on board and will convey to her as necessary. |
