Why Don't Yorubas Celebrate Prof Nwosu Humphrey ? by franchasofficia: 5:53pm On Jun 11, 2023
I have read several times where Yorubas accused Igbos of always hating and working against Yorubas' political interest in Nigeria even though most of such assumptions are lies based on true background stories that many Yoruba political elites refused to tell their youths starting from the post independence politics of the 1960s.

I am sure many Yorubas don't know who Prof Humphrey Nwosu is but they definitely know who Arthur Nzeribe is.

For those who may not know, Professor Humphrey Nwosu was chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC now INEC) appointed by President Ibrahim Babangida.

Prof Nwosu was the Yakubu Mahmood of today during the infamous 1993 Presidential election.

He was NEC (now INEC) boss from 1989 to 1993.

Prof. Nwosu handled the infamous 1993 Presidential election which MKO Abiola won. That election remained the freest, fairest Presidential election in the history of Nigeria.

Did you know that against all odds, against Babangida's and Northern Oligarch's wish, Prof. Nwosu Humphrey went ahead to release election results that made MKO Abiola to emerge winner of that election even though Babangida the then Military Head of State used his military powers to stop the official announcement of MKO as the winner?

An Igbo man, Prof. Nwosu went against a Military President's wish and released election results that confirmed a Yoruba man MKO Abiola as winner of 1993 Presidential election but instead of Yorubas to celebrate an Igbo man like this and remember his good deeds in their politicking book for once, they preferred to delete him in their good books and rather capitalize on corrupt unrecognized Igbo politician like Arthur Nzeribe who was never loved by the Igbos even till his death?

Also, personal account of a brave retired Yoruba Military officer of the 1960s, Capt Ademulegun confirmed even in his book he titled "Why We Struck" that the major reason he and other young military officers of mainly Igbo origin carried out the January 1966 military coup to remove Nnamdi Azikiwe/Tafawa Belewa government was to install Chief Obafemi Awolowo as President, even though they failed in their coup execution due to their inability to agree on execution style; whether to kill their targets or just to arrest them.

That January 1966 coup was later tagged Igbo coup whereas an Igbo man (Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe) was the President, another Igbo man (Chief Nwafor Orizu) was the Senate President and Acting President as that time, which meant that Igbos had no reason to carry out any coup to start with.

Another Yoruba elite also narrated in his own book that it was the political turmoil in the Southwest (then Western Nigeria) between Obafemi Awolowo and Ladoke Akintola that pushed the young soldiers to carry out coup, which shows that ordinary Igbos have always cherished Yorubas and always tried to work together with them to uplift Nigeria yet the Yorubas prefer to believe the lies told by some of their mischievous elites.

Also for the records, during 1993 Presidential election between:

MKO Abiola & Kingibe vs Tofa & Sylvester Ugo, MKO Abiola & Kingibe who are Yoruba and Hausa won Tofa & Sylvester Ugo who are Hausa and Igbo in Anambra state.

Which means Igbo people of Anambra state voted for MKO Abiola a Yoruba man, leaving Tofa contesting with an Igbo VP Sylvester Ugo, yet Yorubas believe Igbos hate them and have continued to work politically against Igbos ever producing President despite Igbos supporting MKO Abiola and Obasanjo who are Yoruba men.

Seun, this post should be on the front page.
Your forum has been used to encourage and spread so much hate against the Igbos.
I wonder why such is allowed.
What is the agenda?

Why the hate on Yorubas now because Tinubu became the president?
Do you think Yorubas would have done these if Peter Obi had been declared the winner?

How many Yorubas offline do you even see rejoicing over the election results?

The case is in court already.
Let's wait for the judicial final verdict.
Until the final judgment by the court, please, stop these; instead pray for justice to prevail.

Please…
It's becoming annoying.

Go back and check the stats, they did not vote Abiola. It was only in Anambra that he had some votes.

I said MKO Abiola won Anambra state which is a core Igbo state (mind you, Southeast had only 4 states as at that time).

Remember that a popular and cherished Igbo man, Sylvester Ugo was running as VP to Tofa who contested against MKO Abiola yet Anambra people voted for MKO Abiola leaving Tofa/Ugo.

In case you don't know who Sylvester Ugo is, he is the Central Bank of Biafra Governor from 1967 to 1970 and was a highly respected and cherished Igbo man and a close ally of Odimegwu Ojukwu.

For your info, Ugo is a relative wink

Just imagine that Igbos have from the begining put in the kind of effort they put in this last election, they would have produced a president by now. But they have always worked against their own supporting either Hausa or Yoruba but at the end what do they get, hate hate hate especially from the Yorubas.

He braved the odds to release the results of the election against the orders of the military

Despite the disagreements between some Igbos and Awolowo politically, before Chief Obafemi Awolowo died, Awolowo advised Yorubas to try and work with Igbos to liberate Nigeria but Yorubas that claim to love Awolowo refused to listen to Awolowo but prefer to listen to an Awolowo wannabe Bola Tinubu who is teaching them how to hate and deal with Omo Igbos starting from Lagos.

As you celebrate June 12 as Democracy day because of MKO Abiola's emergence as winner of June 12 1993 Presidential election, it would be nice to also celebrate this unsung Igbo hero Prof. Nwosu Humphrey that made June 12 possible, or don't you think he deserves some accolade?

It is also a wake up call to Yorubas, especially the young generation of Yoruba youths who see Igbos as their worst enemies (all thanks to Lagos APC) to remember the little Igbos have done for Yorubas politically in Nigeria and not just capitalizing on few mistakes of Igbos to continually hate and work against Igbos politically just because of the lies some of your elites told you for years against Igbos

What we are talking about didn't just start during this last election.

Lagos APC also tagged Jimi Agbaje of PDP in 2019 Igbo, they said Igbos wanted to take over Lagos through Jimi Agbaje, did Peter Obi contest President in 2019. They used same tactics in 2015 that made Oba Akiolu to use the Lagoon derogatory words, did any Igbo contest President or Governor in Lagos in 2015 and 2019? Why must Yorubas victimize Igbos if they chose to vote another party different from Tinubu's party? It happened in 2015, 2019 and 2023. In 2004, 2011 that Igbos aligned with Yorubas to vote Obasanjo and Goodluck respectively, Igbos weren't attacked or condemned in Lagos or in any Southwest states, but from 2015, 2019 and 2023 that Igbos chose a different party from Tinubu's preferred party, Yorubas started attacking and condemning Igbos, why?

Its been a pattern that became more glaring in 2023 because of Peter Obi.

Lagos is a no man's land is a very positive slang started by a Yoruba man, Lateef Jakande (a former Governor of Lagos) which some Igbos borrowed henceforth and used the slang to define Lagos state as a state that welcomes everybody without discrimination, where nobody that knows nobody can just become somebody.

Ask yourself if Igbos had for once invaded any Lagos community and took over by force and refused to vacate or if Igbos has at any point grabbed land in Lagos by force without paying for it?

How on earth was it possible for Igbos to take over Lagos? You guys have allowed yourselves to be deceived severally by Lagos APC politics and it is very dangerous where it is heading to if caution is not exercised.

Yoruba has already known you for who you are and what you stand for.

All this one make no sense anymore,

the level of hatred and disrespect you people have for Yoruba should be study in the university of Michigan, and if they return your energy to you, you start shouting everyone hated you.

Go to Twitter and see your people display highest level of hatred, disrespect, diminished to the Yoruba because of Tinubu as a president.

The good news now is the elites Yoruba who always adamant and never believe the people they hosted in their land, hated them so much and does not wish them well

They did not vote for abiola and you still went ahead to declare it's only one state, that's contradictory. You even asserted it's only Anambra that he had some vote when he actually won Anambra state.

The south east has just 4 states then , he won in one out of four and did well in others. That result was excellent considering that someone from that region was contesting for VP slot.

6 years and 10 years later , the south east people also voted massively for the south west irrespective of the fact that a former Senate president and a former Governor of Eastern region contested for vice president and president respectfully.

Has there ever been a time Igbos said Lagos is an Igbo land? Has an Igbo man ever became an Oba in Lagos state? All the Obas in Lagos are Yorubas, so how else is Lagos not a Yoruba land?

Bros, you are flogging a dead horse. These people have sealed ties with the Fulanis. There's no going back at this point. The Fulanis even love it as it offers avenue for divide and conquer.

Fine, your thread is about let posterity judge itself. But in reality, Yorubas have aligned with the Fulanis. Let it go.

What Igbos should do is learn cold lessons from this election and reduce having fixed assets in the South West. Restrict their daughters and sisters marrying Yoruba men. Be very professional with them. Stop doing "I love you too much". We seek so much validation from people who don't like us, and I wonder why.

I remember before Covid-19 telling David Hundeyin on twitter that there is nothing like a united Southern Nigeria. We are better off like Malaysia and Singapore rather than be one country. Our cultural values are different. Even the version of Christianity is different. Just trade with them, that's all. Even in the Malaysia/Singapore setup, Malays from Malaysia rarely marry Malays from Singapore. However, Chinese Malaysians marry Chinese Singaporeans. Let it go. Just trade and diversify your investments to other West African countries.
