For those complaining about Ribadu being a cop, a retired AIG is as good as a Brigadier General.

However I would even dare say more senior AIGs, and the COMPOLs/AIGs that eventually make DIG are equivalent to Major General.

The Inspector General is equivalent to a Lieutenant General, seeing as he shares parity with all service chiefs except the CDS.

Not compulsory for the person to be a retired military personnel.A retired senior police officer can also give security advice to the president.

There is nowhere in the constitution of Nigeria where it is stated that whoever becomes the National Security Adviser must have a military background.

The NSA of the administration of Shehu Shagari, Bukar Shaib, didn’t have a military background. He was a diplomat. Yet, he performed, and creditably, too and also Alhaji Isamila Gwarzo ,a retired senior police officer who was NSA under Abacha and Shoneken administration.
