The solution to all these things is to provide prepaid meter for all the customers.

The DISCOs billing methodology does not reflect the true state of electricity consumption

There is no sector without corruption in Nigeria

It's gonna be hard to fix this country unless the corrupt people starts going to jail or they start shooting and hanging them for all to see

We the consumers gladly replace transformer, High and low tension cables, Fallen poles, blown fuses, etc.

In some cities there is this entrenched Transfomer Maintenance Committee spear heading these criminal acts, and you notice residents of communities giving them the power to levy, harrass anyone who failed to pay.
The management of DISCOS laughing pretty to the banks.

Just repeating what we know already.

Nigerians know it.

The DISCOS know it.

TCN, NERC, FG all know.

Las-las, all government manipulation including subsidy payment or removal na to victimise Nigerians.

The average Nigerian is a victim.

Nigerians are professional victims.

Lol... Is this supposed to be a shocking revelation?!! grin

The only thing that will shock me now is that there is a sector in Nigeria that is corruption-free!

An average Nigerian programmed from the womb to be corrupt!

Nigeria is easily the most corrupt nation on Earth!

Most Nigerians are corrupt down to their souls!

That was why I laughed my ass off when people said Buhari was coming to fight and end corruption in 2015...! grin grin grin

One has to be observant in Nigeria na everybody they steal where you buy your electricity credit affects how much units you get for the same amount of money.

Last time I checked the prepaid (ie 2 years ago) Jumia gives a better rate than the side shops and pos places. Also compare to what you get from Nepa office.

Too much fraud in the system.
Re: ‘Massive Corruption In Electricity Sector, Discos Defrauding Nigerians’ - WAMAC by gabbytabby: 10:32am On Jun 12, 2023
No he can’t it needs like 10 Presidents to be working on it full time. Aside from it will or they will kill him. Even Buhari get there and bow.

He will do what he can on major jaguda but concentrate on infrastructure and services.

See, I naija you have to know how to play the game. Most times do not be in a rush, because that is when you are exploited.
My story.
So, because of the high tariff in my estate ie 210 per unit, I decided get normal pre paid meter to ikedc grid.
Before an account was finally opened from me despite sending several emails, I got a call from their marketing staff covering my area. She informed me that the new process is that once the account number is created and sent to me, I should go look for electrician to connect me to the grid. She explained that by policy of the company, I will receive bills of over 70k monthly by diffualt and so I should make effort to lobby for a meter to be installed quickly. Asking if I knew any of their staff. All she said shocked me. She they asked if she should go ahead and create the account. Since I had no option, I said yes.
So few days later I got the account number, and was adviced to go to the kyc site to register for the meter. Which I immediately did.
Now, here was where I did abracadabra for them. Immediately I registered for the meter, I wrote an email thanking them for the account, I then told them I will not be connecting to the grid, no ikedc staff will be connecting me or has come to connect me, I will not connect until I am metered. I then quoted the customers rights for metering as published in the Nerc consumer protection laws. It is written in their website.
Omo, less than 1 month, I received the first bill, ₦89,900. Lol.
I wrote to them referring my earlier mail that I am not connected to the grid.
2nd month I received ₦89,900! I wrote email again, they wrote me back arguing that the marketer said I connected, that I even came to their office to sign. I wrote them that impersonation is a criminal offence. I then took a letter to their head office I got it stamped. Omo next month, no bill. The following month, the accumulated got bill of over 170k was cleared from my new account!
They sent me details, I paid for the meter and it was installed with zero balance! All the people that got the same time with me all have over 300k debt which they will be paying monthly for years.
Bottomline, know how to play the game.
Now I buy ₦69 per unit.

There are numerous types and kinds of fraud in any system that is still working in this country starting from presidency to INEC to Local Governments.

Na the one you hear you know.

Reason I don't applaud EFCC when they go after this guys that brings in than stealing from The country. I dont support the guys either but I rather choose them than our politicians and appointed rouges in various level of governance and public administration becausethey are all on the same mission but the guys are better.

To President Tinubu:

-The present DISCOS can never give 24/7 Lights ,as they are too large and too Corrupt to give Nigerians -- the INDUSTRIALISATION the Country needs.
--President Tinubu should, in addition to Electricity Act, established - Power and Energy Bank- to give funds to New Comers,( Coy) that desires to take off the Power Infrastructure
- it's not enough to Sign Bills, how is the Implementations,as the President needs to oversee this Sector, Corruption is not allowing this Sector to move forward .e g.Prepaid-Metres- are so scarce but only for the rich.
- In Ghana Benin-Republic,they have no need of Generators but why are they in Nigeria because of collaboration of NEPA - DISCOS Officials,as there is no day there wouldn't be light Off!
Very Shameful.

Interesting!!!. I had a somewhat similar experience. Moved to a new place and made the lethal mistake not insisting landlord installed pre-paid meter before moving in. 3 months after moving in, EKDC came to say they want to take inventory for estimated billing. I slammed my door shut on them. One month after they sent bill of over 100k in a house with only two people. I ignored them . Following month they brought another 100k+ bill. Told them “I would be dead before you will see 1 Naira of this nonsense bill”. They sharply disconnected me. This was in October of 2021. I enter market and bought 6-solar panels, inverters, batteries and was on solar of One year straight. They thought I was mad. They used to come unannounced around 3pm to check and were surprised to always meet it disconnected. As in I NEVER even considered illegally connecting it. Only them brought Meyer by themselves, installed and were begging for us to come activate it. Like you, I was told all that nonsense of illegally tampering with the meter.

Prepaid meter is the best.

The main reason they refuse to give prepaid is because of money they make.

Nepa giving a house bill based on your appliances rather than consumption

Giving a house 100k bill because everyone has AC. But you give light 2 times a week at best 4 hours.

We need OBI abeg.

Agbado peeps dey hustle now. As e don red for them. No more free money as fuel go collect am and humble them.
Prepaid sef nor sure. Electricity fraud is too much. Some of the prepaid are substandard. In a place I visited thunder and lightening destroyed up to 20 prepaid meters in the area and almighty discos said to replace the meters each owner will pay half payment to replace them all. Na scam abeg. Estimated and postpaid meters are being billed just anyhow. Heavy fraud everywhere.
