He’s saying the Nigeria custom service should focus on trade and leave revenue collection.

What do you think of that?

I know Tinubu is a beast when it comes to generating revenue, from the Lagos experience. But first he has to come up with a strategy to tackle the serious corruption in Nigeria Customs before he tries merging them with firs if he actually plans to do so.

The customs service here is too corrupt. Like you wrote above the customs shouldn't even be in the business of handling our money at all when we've got FIRS.

With Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan - Nigeria was in frontline. Little Ghana appeared sane man in west africa - as Ivory Coast also went into civil war.

Now Nigeria and Ivory coast are back. Ghana will revert to being a slave dungeon.

Nigeria must only country where customs is separate from revenues.
In kenya we merged customs with revenues in 1995 - and created KRA.
Almost every country I know has one single revenue authority that collect customs, income tax, sales, vat and name it.

This need to be done TODAY. It almost 30yrs late.

And corruption is dealt by installing system at customs - computers will kill 90 percent of corruption.

Ethiopia is home to the AU and was never colonised but how relevant is Ethiopia in Africa? Even in East Africa, many would consider Kenya more influential than Ethiopia.

Influence is mostly about Economy, Military, and spread of your culture.

Ghana is doing well but she is not even the most influential in English speaking West Africa. Ivorycoast is the most influential French speaking West African country and Nigeria is still the most influential English speaking West African country.

Kenya is the most influential East African Country just like South Africa in Southern Africa. Egypt is the top dog in North Africa.

Economic ranking, Military ranking, and Cultural spread in that order are the three topmost metrics to guage influence/relevance here.

Exactly. Joburg, Lagos, Nairobi and Cairo - are the main cities in Africa - when it comes to geo-politics. Ghana is only relevant when Nigeria has problems.
