Fuel Subsidy: Cut Down The National Assembly Budget Of Over N160 Billion – Rufai Oseni To FG

He argued that if Nigerians have to suffer the effect of the subsidy removal then the lawmakers must also must not be exempted.


Popular Nigerian TV host, Rufai Oseni has called on the Federal Government to reduce the budget of the National Assembly.

In a Twitter post, Oseni asked the FG to cut the National Assembly N160 billion budget to N50 billion, adding that the leftover funds should be used to improve federal medical facilities across the nation.

He wrote, “National Assembly get over 160 billion, cut that money to 50 billion, make it a unicameral legislature use the remaining money to upgrade Federal medical centers across the country.

“If Nigerians are suffering subsidy removal let the National Assembly budget also be tremendously cut.

“Also,we must cut cost of Governance since Nigerians are suffering subsidy cut now. No need for ministers of state, No need for too much special advisers( They really don’t do much)spend that money on schools and hospitals and whittle down some MDA’s

“Also we must reduce how much is spent on the presidency since Nigerians are suffering subsidy removal.”

Let me start by saying that Mr Oseni is right. We need to cut down the budget of the National Thieves. sorry National Assembly.

But cutting it from 160billion to 50 billion means we have 110 billion...for one year.

Subsidy costs for this year were in excess of N3 trillion alone.(And we owe NNPC 2.8 trillion in subsidy costs alone. Even if we spent 110 billion, it would just be like me throwing a bucket of water into an ocean. It won't do much for the size of the ocean

This is the way to go, but trust Nigerian politicians would never heed this. Greed and corruption is already endemic.

Cuts in welfare should be replicated in cost of governance. Where is efficiency unit today? Wastage and leakages was embraced ahead of production when they removes subsidy.

I gave up on Tinubu when he opted to back Akpabio a gross thief to help him at the Senate.
