WHERE IS THE BARK OF ONIONS?

The fact that fighting is dangerous does not stop self-defence.

To settle America, the African-Americans must be settled. To settle African-Americans, Nigeria must be settled. To settle Nigeria, Igbo must be settled. How do we settle Igbo? Pa Achebe already stated that "other Nigerians" easily arrive at a consensus once Igbo issue is involved.

In the book "The Only Coup in Nigeria", published in 2010, it was proposed that Achebe and Soyinka should be locked in a room to settle Igbo problem in Nigeria. Unfortunately, Achebe moved on before this could happen. And everyday the unresolved Igbo questions push Nigeria further down the road to the Christian and non-Christian hell.

In 1953, the "uneducated backward" North so dribbled the South in a constitutional meeting in Lagos that the West were unruly to the Northern delegates. And North insisted they have had enough of "the mistake of 1914". Nine years earlier Zik through his resources (print media, mainly) mobilised the premier country wide Labour strike, which ended in massacre of Igbo in Jos, Plateau State and assassination attempt on Zik in 1945. Akin to Igbo fate in Ọsọ Abiola in June 12...

Of course, the West had to cancel her political tour of Kano (the North) in 1953, after the incident in Lagos and the spoiling for vengeance in the North. But the cancellation did not assuage the North from massacre of Igbo in the North in 1953 again, leaving out the Yoruba that provoked them in Lagos, since no deterring punishment was meted out to the culprits of Jos massacre of 1945.

Of course, the intimidation of Middlebelt, better known as Tiv riot climaxed and anti-climaxed in 1964 but a bigger meat was substituted for Tiv subjugation just as ram was substituted for Abraham's son. Yoruba was the bigger meat that suppressed the bloody vanquishing of Tiv riot. Akintola was the breakthrough, and blood flooded the land through 1965 in Ibadan and its environs.

The above and much more quickened these events: initial and preemptive coups. The preemptive coup succeeded in striking first, and deadly destabilised the initial coup. The initial coup remnants regrouped and struck in the revenge coup of July 1966. The bitterness of that revenge coup is still ruling Nigeria today and looking for the remnants of the preemptive coup of 15th January, 1966. Thankfully, OBJ fulfilled all that Nzeọgwụ requested of him about his immediate family. May the path of his soul remain sunny and fulfilling!

Vengeance upon vengeance like vanity upon vanity is vain. Yet on earth to love your neighbour as you love yourself will include incapacitating your neighbour from harming you without harming such neighbour.

How can Igbo incapacitate others in Nigeria from harming them? Once they can do this, then Nigeria's coexistential challenges are resolved and we can occupy our rightful position among other countries. Once this is achieved the mess in South Africa will stop, and African-Americans can breath.

But the bark of onions, where does it end?
