Seems easy but it's not. The answer is not what you might think it is.

I'll provide the answer here.

The answer is 11:55am.

This is because we only count clockwise when it comes to time. So for example, when we say 20 minutes to 10, it means 20 minutes before 10 and not 20 minutes after 10.

Here is the trick, Time is always calculated in two ways.

After the hour and To (before the hour)

After 12:00 am - starts counting just a minute after 12:00am.
While To or before the hour of 12:00 am - This means that the time isn't 12:00 am yet.
Some minutes are still left before it hits 12:00 am.

Now, in this context the question is actually referring to - To (before) 12:00 am, Meaning it's not yet 12:00 am.

The only right answer to the time that is nearest to - (To) 12:00Amis 11: 55 pm.

I know a lot of people would go for 12:03am, Because is just 3 minutes apart. But they are wrong.

This is why it's a tricky question.

I would have chosed 11:55pm if it is an option, I understand the question as a time that actually comes before 12:00.

12:03am is 3minutes after midnight. You'll need about 23hrs and 54mins to the next midnight.

12:06am is 6minutes after a new day. You'll need about 23hrs and 54mins to the next midnight.

11:50am is is 11hrs and 50mins after the previous midnight, and it will take you 12hrs 50mins to the next midnight we are heading to.

11:55am is approximately 11hrs and 55mins after the previous midnight. And it will take us 12hrs and 5minutes to arrive at the next midnight.

So 11:55am is the answer

12:03am is midnight
