You are not calling out govt when you criminally defame and cyberbully others. You are actually breaking the law and it's the job of govt to enforce the laws. If you do it and get away today, tomorrow you will be the victim of another cyberbully and criminal defamer.

Critics are intelligent people courted even by govt because they use facts to influence public opinion. You can't move any needle by committing crimes online.
At the bolded, criticism no matter how constructive is not welcome in an AUTHORITARIAN STATE. If you doubt that, try criticising the government in any authoritarian state. I don't know how you came to the generous assumption that governments are always made up reasonable and selfless people.

" By adapting regulations to include digital footprints, the CBN aims to ensure that financial institutions have a more holistic understanding of their customers, promoting enhanced due diligence and risk mitigation.
This development serves as a reminder to individuals and businesses to be mindful of their online presence and activities.
"

From the signing of the Data Protection Act which makes it compulsory for every organisation in Nigeria to collate, store and provide data of every of your customers to the govt agency regulating data now to this, it is only someone who is naive who will think this era will not come after the burning of Lagos in 2020 by those unpatriotic elements hiding under Endsars.

No hiding place again even on Nairaland. All those commiting fraud, criminal defamations, forex change news manipulators and cyberbullying online will now be of risk interest to the banks.

This is a great effort in bringing decency to our society at large, not just to the financial sector, even romance scams and scammers will now be monitored.
God bless Nigeria for ever!
This is rich, coming from the same fellow who puts daily efforts into swindling users on nairaland.

This is wrong and uncalled for. It can be used against people for social expressions and even by government against their free speech.

Social media handles has nothing to do with company information or sources of income unless where it is a business handle.

Hoping this will be applied positively in terms of ensuring that those who steal from people's bank accounts will without delay be fished out by their own banks especially when the victim reports loss of funds, not that there will be unnecessary protocols of going to the Police and court first.

This will help even Nigerians outside Nigeria to recover easily their money and lighten the burden on EFCC also, boost confidence in our banking system IF NOT, all is still 'wash' and has no direct benefit to Nigerian masses.

We have more than enough personal data to work with in Nigeria, duplication of data is what we love doing, all minus no plus. Birth certificate, NIN, Drivers Licence, International Passport, BVN, Phone Registration, Social media registration. All can be done with one data base but we behave as if we don't know all these.

What you said especially about Noryherners is not true but it's typical of largely Nigeria rural dwellers not to have social media presence. My mum who is a retired nurse doesn't even know what is WhatsApp.

I'm my days as compliance officer, I discover the lack of synergy and coordination of data from all sources both federal and local MDAs
Hardly can u source for data and confirm across board, either the names are spelt differently or arrange differently, u def must find discrepancy btw the bio data on immigration from NBS!

So adding more requirements makes the harder work and leaves criminals an opportunity also to create psuedo profiles and for high end criminals to deny certain attached profiles.

What the government should work seriously on is harmonised data and drive it through technology especially for facial recognition and finger prints. These 2 identifiers and metrics is sacred and terror to financial and conduct crimes
Re: Social Media Handle Mandatory KYC Requirement For Bank Customers- CBN by Basicend: 11:34am On Jun 24, 2023
CBN and FG always coming up with stupid policies. . To disturb us.

Social media profiles that someone can just change in 2 minutes and switch.

Clowns.

After BVN, NIN, vNIN they still could not achieve viable trackings.

Obrigardo:
@FreeStuffsNG

I have seen your propaganda on this board and it's worrisome.
There is nowhere in the Article where it says it's mandatory.

There are people and mostly in rural areas who don't have and have no need for social handles or whatever nonsense you call it.

This is stupid reframing and I'll urge the moderators to change the title if they ever want to move it to the front page.

Mynd44, nlpmod take note so you don't push out untruths and false reporting
I don't even understand what the article said. Please can you explain to my understanding. Is it mandatory or not?
