I read that back in the day, Nigeria was one of the world's biggest exporter of Cocoa, groundnuts, kolanut, bitter kola, etc.
Those were what made the Nigerian economy a very stable one, according to history.

So, what happened?
At what point did we get it wrong?
What can we do to make things right?

I believe if Nigeria will be better again, it will be majorly through agricultural exports.

Nigeria needs to place a ban somehow on the export of raw Agricultural produce. To qualify for export, it must be made to undergo a certain amount of processing.

Exporting raw agricultural produce is bad for our economy. Rather we should think of how to add value to our cash crops e.g cocoa, cashews, rubber etc before exporting it.

Ivory Coast is the biggest exporter of cocoa in Africa and also an importer of chocolate. Is there any sense in that?

Is that not the same unfortunate situation as Nigeria is today?

Crude oil with all its vital bye-products gives you just Petroleum as commensurate value?

Why? Cos we can't get our refining capacity right?

So many rivers to cross mehnn!

After Ivory Coast, Nigeria is the next producer of cocoa in Africa. Our major export is Cocoa.

Exporting agricultural products won’t make the country great again, processing those produce into finished products and exporting them is the way to go.

Produce or perish.

Abeg. If anybody has links to export companies in Nigeria that buys agricultural products from suppliers, kindly share with us here.

Let's help ourselves. Unemployed youths can travel around to source these agricultural produces within the country and make money by suppling to those companies based on demand.

Cocoa remains the King! The different variants and grades are from same cocoa o and largely cultivated in the SW.
Sesame is doing great but still a far far cry from King Cocoa. Cashew is picking up now and Palm oil is doing great.
Our agriculture sector is formidable o and I appreciate PMB and Emefiele for the support they gave our farmers.
This is a very interesting thread. Thank you OP and mods
God bless Nigeria.

Because you have not done your own research, you have been misinformed by those blinded by hate. If our agriculture sector had not been revived, how would we have coped during and after Corona? The largest rice mill in west Africa is a partnership between Lagos and Kebbi state, is it that you have not heard of lake rice? The sesame that is now a gold mine happened during his tenure and local rice production today became a reality due to the hardwork of PMB , his agric minister and Emefiele. As bad as the naira redesign messed up the legacy of Emefiele, he helped the farmers Where people do fine, give them the credit. FTN cocoa just landed an fdi of $12m over the weekend. Please always go beyond the social media mostly full of negative and unpatriotic lazy folks

Our population is another factor. The northern part with it's booming population with less agricultural value accounts for the reducing per capita income

So, how come rice became more expensive than ever before?
Was the project about just to enrich the farmers?

This is not even a matter of doing research, or about "negative and unpatriotic lazy folks".

the white man wont buy it. And we dont have local markets for those things. how do you store chocolate when there is not light plus its seen as luxury snack here so no much market. Ghana tried to control the trade the white man bleeped them up, they are still batting economic wahala since

then the buyers abroad will go elsewhere. Their gain is in the value chain. Ask Ghana how far
