Edo 2024 - The Reality by OredoPikin(op): 9:32am On Jul 01, 2023
In November 2024, the 8years reign of obaseki as governor of Edo state will be over and a new face will be sitting at the governor's office in Osadebe Avenue.

Many politicians and actors have started positioning themselves to take over and many followers are of the opinion that the governorship position be zone to Edo central (esan) as they have not produced a governor or even deputy since the coming of democracy in 1999

Between 1999 to 2007, lucky igbinedion from Edo south was governor and Mike oghiadomen from Edo North served as deputy
Although in 2007, Osariemen Osunbor of PDP from Edo central(Esan) was declared the governor by INEC, his tenure was truncated by the court just after 18months and Oshiomole was declared the rightful governor in Nov 2008. Oshiomole is from Edo North and Pius Odubu his Deputy is from Edo South
After Oshiomole 8yrs in 2016, Obaseki from Edo south was elected as governor and Philip shaibu from Edo North was elected deputy thereby sidelining the Esans again.

For these years, the position of the speaker of the house of assembly was always theirs until Oshiomole came on board and APC(AC then) became majority in the house and the leadership of the HOS was changed when the PDP members started decamping to AC.
The Esans have always been loyal to PDP until 2023.

Edo state comprises of 18 local govt council with Edo south taking 7, Edo North 6 and Edo central 5. The population of 3 local govt councils(Oredo, ikpoba okha, egor) from the South that made up Benin city (the state capital) is far more the 5 local govt councils from Edo central. This is where the problem comes.

The opposition parties like LP and APC, will definitely want to cede their ticket to the zone that have the population so that they can have a better chance of victory.
The ruling party PDP already have a young deputy governor that will be interested in taking over from his boss and he is from Edo North and it's very unlikely he will pick his Deputy from Edo central.
It will be very dangerous for any political party to ignore the vast population of Edo south and with Philip shaibu almost certain to get the PDP ticket, i am sorry to say, Esans will be ignored once again.
With PDP going Edo North and deputy certainly from Edo south, it will be difficult for the opposition parties to cede their ticket to Edo central.

OP, let Edo Pple vote Massively for Ken Imasuagbon of Labour Party. smiley

PDP and APC have both failed in the state. sad

Edo Pple should try an Opposition Party.i.e.Labour Party.

Remember Oshiomhole's First tenure as Governor, when he did some Wonders, was under an opposition (ACN). 🤔🙂

Pdp is a failure in Edo

There should be no zoning. Let all candidates present themselves and may the best win. Our sister state, Delta has been zoning the governorship across the zones and what have they got for it? Delta is a total mess. Please let's do away with outdated ethnic thinking, and select next governor based on merit.

Even if Edo must try a new party or LP, Ken imasuagbon is a wrong candidate.

Since 2007, Ken have been moving from one political party to the other and contesting the governorship election
He was favoured to picked the AC ticket in 2007 before Oshiomole labour party merged with AC and he was asked to step down for oshiomole. He there after moved to PDP and he has been jumping from one party to the other
Now he is in LP 😀

If we must try someone that have been constantly contesting
Solomon Edebiri is better

Phillip Shuaibu that lost his units and LGA to the APC in d last three elections? He can't survive Oshiomhole especially now Tinubu is president, PDP will never give him ticket cos it would be a waste. He is not popular and he has no cult following, no street credibility either. Accept it or not, PDP is looking at Esan (Edo Central), that's why Edo north was given Speaker two weeks ago. As for LP, d leaders of d party are mainly Edo Central, an Esan man may also get their ticket. The big elephant in d room is d APC. Clem Agba from Edo north had his ambition practically arrested when he visited d Oba and his balloon was bursted. An Etsako man not likely to be governor this next time, very unlikely. Any other formidable person from Edo north? None in sight yet. Can APC find an Esan man who Oshiomhole and d APC apparatus can trust? If Oshiomhole can find, he would be paired with a popular Edo South Deputy candidate and with support from Asiwaju it would be hell in a cell of an election. But first let's find out who Oshiomhole would nominate to Asiwaju as Minister for Edo cos accept it or not, when it comes to Edo and APC, President Tinubu has d ears of Oshiomhole and he listens to him.

In Nigeria, everyone goes to government houses first to enrich himself and his family. Next, he will bring developments to his village while ignoring others. Hence equity demands that every section has a taste of governance.
