Hehehehe shared hosting will disgrace you

Remember you're sharing the host with others including the IP

if your server load misbehaves they'll block you off with almost no prior notice

If your nodes, CPU usage exceeds a certain threshold they cut you the Bleep off

Shared host is best for basic blog sites

Heck... it can even ruin your blog when you start getting substantial traffic.

Don't think of uploading video there...

Your app is chat app and shared hosting isn't the best use VPS

Avoid shared host unless you're on extremely tight budget grin

You can use pusher. Which just takes the load of your neck. But if you insist on going head Digital ocean isn’t a bad choice either. VPS is best if you ask me

Pusher offers real time websocket services and all you need to do is to integrate with it. And forget about setting up websocket infrastructure.

But I am curious when you say pusherjs isn’t giving you what you need. Pusher only handle websocket for you. You will have to setup the rest yourself

For real-time chatrooms, I don’t even bother with shared hosting anymore. It always crashes or gets limited if your chat’s active since those plans just aren’t designed for open sockets or higher resource use. My best experiences have been with dedicated or solid VPS hosting, especially when using PHP or Node.js with websockets for live chat features. It’s more control and better uptime, and you can tweak things as you grow.

If you outgrow basic VPS or need even more reliability, it's worth checking out ServerMania. They've got lots of server types, so you can scale up easily if the chatroom gets busy.
