The past minister of disaster and humanitarian affairs (Sadiya Farouq) was being alleged to spend N500B every month for 50million indigent Nigerians during PMBs' reign. The 50million persons as concocted from the social register had over 50% of these indigents from a particular geographical region. Yet, during the course of the 1st quarter of this year, Nigeria by standards had over 133m persons in multi-dimensional poverty and you know what? about 50% of these same people in multi dimensional poverty reside in the same geography that benefitted from the conditional cash transfer. N500B will purchase approximately 8000 of this 60 seater bus. Instead of giving 8k to 12m poor families, why not distribute these buses across the country to ease the cost of transportation? You would also be creating jobs in the process. And each state and FCT will get 216 buses which will drastically reduce transport fares and used for 10yrs without giving issues as regards repairs. Is this not better than 8k per household for six months which implementation monitor can not be guarantee....and it's like an investment that will even be yielding returns for government to purchase more of the buses later. BAT need to disengage himself from Buhari and Apc policy if he truly wants the renewed hope mantra to flourish and yield great results. They can buy buses and distribute to labour through the states. Then, labour will engage private managers to run it profitably. Since they are gas driven buses, their prices will be reduced and profit will still be achieved.

... people will still need to pay for these bus rides and if you have reduced prices on these buses then EVERYONE then everyone will be riding the cheaper buses and NOBODY will use the normal buses... thus you will take away money from the bus drivers/operators already trading all over Nigeria. the above is a BAD EXAMPLE OF WHAT TO DO WITH THE 500BILLIONS! |

MrBrownJay1:So you prefer vast population to struggle with transportation just because it will take away money from some bus drivers/operators already trading all over Nigeria. what about the massive jobs that will be created? what about the food produce and other stuffs that will crash if govt subsidize transportation? |

blueghost:so your solution is to take away all the bus drivers jobs, take away the businesses of all the bus owners, close all transport companies out there, just to help a few people?! you cant expect to solve a problem by taking away the jobs of more people and create another problem. there is already enough bus companies in Nigeria, there is already enough bus drivers in Nigeria, creating more isnt gonna solve the problem, instead you should have the gov give these companies/bus owners a subsidy so that they can lower prices.... instead of trying to mess with their business and/or livelihood. again, the 8k monthly is to ADD a little extra to what the needy already have (aka a bonus), NOT A SALARY TO LIVE LIKE KINGS. |
