Omo, but this unification dey bite hard for students abroad. I was reading an article about this and many students who left their school fees in Naira can't even afford to pay their tuition fee cos they have to look for double the initial amount they had in account.

However, the unification still isn't exactly going as it should. On the I$E window, it closed at $742 on tuesday, but aboki was still selling at over $800 as at yesterday. How does that support the unification when the actual price on the streets is still different from the official price?

My brother, its expected. I'm sure we had a discussion about this last year Nov or Dec on this thread.

The fx market is still volatile, it will take some time for it to stabilize. There was a day that the price in the black market was lower than the I & E window.

As more liquidity enters into the fx market through the I & E window, the price will stabilize.

Though baby is enjoying breastfeeding for now. grin

God go help us.

Exactly. Nigerians like to create problems when there is none. Breastmilk alone is adequate for the first 6 months. Save your money.

Not to mention the fact that minimum wage increment will lead to inflation that will still make live more difficult for those who won't benefit from it.

So to manage inflation, make them reduce minimum wage? grin

Yes. Even the NAN we bought was because of the procedure my wife went through and couldn't breastfeed her immediately.

Since like the third day after birth, I'm not sure she has take the food. It's been breast milk all through.

Why is this thing so difficult?

With the increase in allocation to the states, it means no state should complain again because the increment more than covers the resultant effect of the subsidy removal.

Now, the price of things has doubled in most cases but we have states earning close to x3 their usual monthly allocation so, it means we have to pause to begin to ask our respective State Governors what they are going to be doing with the excess of money given to them. We can not continue asking the FG to do it all if so, they shouldn't increase the state allocation.

I can imagine the Governors smiling to the bank and praying Nigerians don't look their way and continue holding the FG to provide what should normally be provided for by their state governments.

Let the Local and state government put to good use the allocation they are receiving and things will get a lot better.

When was that baba? Black market lower than I&E?
Some people will even trade at the I&E window. Hoard it to create scarcity and even sell to the black market at a price higher than the I&E window. To them is about making profit.

Liquidity with which external reserves baba? External reserves don d even go down already.

Whatever it is you are arguing, you are the only one that knows because everyone knows dollars affect the prices of goods especially as we are an import dependent country.

The question I'm asking you is 1.9tr is useless in comparison to what? What figures are you looking at that's making you call 1.9tr useless?

Anyone who did economics in secondary school will know that inflation affects the time value of money. 1 naira in 2012 can never be the same as 1 naira in 2023, likewise $1 in 2012 is not the same value as $1 in 2023.
So saying we should hold our govs blokos n let d FG breathe is absolutely misnormal

The truth is: Prior to this japa wave, schooling abroad was mostly an elitist thing. Most times it's the children of the decision makers that were schooling abroad and their parents who are decision makers in this country allowed the subsidizing dollars for those schooling abroad to remain as long as possible. All Buhari's children schooled abroad (Even when he was doing photo ops using sachet milo to drink tea), Saraki the former senate president schooled abroad, Seyi Tinubu schooled abroad, be it APC or PDP ; most of their kids were schooling abroad.

So they made sure sourcing subsidized dollar continued as long as it made paying their ward's fees abroad easy. That's why they are never bothered when ASUU complain the government is not funding our Universities well enough. It is only now when so many people in the middle class have keyed into it that it's dawning on them that the whole thing is not sutainable any longer

Interesting angle.

There is an unspoken compact between Nigerian leaders and the people. The leaders agree to subsidize a myriad of products and ventures for the people while the people agree to look away while the leaders siphon the nation's funds.

It actually isn't that complicated.

It is the same thing happening to Davido.

When you are not street and you are mixing with people who are. For Davido na knack, for the babe na hustle. For the doctor he was doing a good deed, for the babe she was roping in an ajeburra sucker.

Same way you have to be very hard with your artisans or driver or domestic help. Show them kindness and next thing they are running you street.

How can a man be a feminist? Doesn't make sense to me.

All the male feminists in the west are destroying the rights of their men and giving em to women. That's why men gets easily canceled over frivolous issues.

I haven't even criticized tinubu that much since he assumed power even though I never supported him and supported Obi.

His first moves looked like what one could call "bold moves", you know, someone ready to take risks and not give a Bleep about whose ox is gored. Although I NEVER supported subsidy removal, I was more in support of an efficient run subsidy, close the loopholes, crackdown on illegal exporters, get the genuine figures of Nigerian consumption of daily crude and perhaps reduce the percentage of subsidy and watch how those false ballooned figures drop rapidly. However I could rationalize the bold call of just cutting the leg off completely rather than manage the gangrene if it meant optimal health for the whole body. I also expected to see heads roll, those responsible for the gross mismanagement of the whole thing.

Then not to talk of "students loan" which initially looked wonderful, like a policy that would positively touch a lot of youths only to see that this was a red herring to mask the massive increase in school fees across all public institutions.

But there was really something I was looking forward to, if jagaban was indeed "fearless and ready to take risk", why haven't any heads rolled?

Why aren't we hearing anything at all on anti-corruption?? Those marketers with nnpc allies who have been robbing us. Why isn't there any single arrest of any former public official?

Instead to the opposite, what we're seeing is a further entrenchment of that entitlement mentality of the ruling class. Tinubu has instead decided to share our national cake in form of bribes and appeasement to the legislooters and the corrupt judiciary in order to buy favor. Almost 400 billion naira in benefits and amoluments to judges and lawmakers, yet you are asking the citizens to "endure and sacrifice" for a better future. While you yourselves mock us with further bastardization of our commonwealth.

I wanted to give myself hope that this government may get things right but it has been wickedness and wickedness, suffering upon suffering of the masses.

Nepa tariffs have increased drastically and fuel prices have also increased drastically so if you have light now, you have to be really conscious of how you use it. Price of foodstuffs have shot up in the market. Transportation, energy and food, 3 drivers of every single economy is now a very heavy task to the average nigerian.
God help us all.

Buhari prophetically said nigerians will miss him when he left, we joked about it, yet here it is. Na God hand we dey.

I have to say that the onslaught against pipeline vandals is really working. Black soot is a thing of the past.

Someone I know who deals in kpofire also confirmed to me that business is terribly slow these days. The military men who give them protection have advised them to lay low for now or they will be on their own.

When you hear things like subsidy on fuel should not be removed, subsidy on education should not be removed, etc and the explanation is that the politicians will steal the saved money anyway, it is an unwitting agreement: You politicians keep your embezzled funds, we the people will keep our subsidized goods and services.
