Those who think education is expensive should try ignorance.

Now it's clear to everyone that the FG has been hugely subsidising education yet the ungrateful unpatriotic beneficiaries of this heavily subsidized education will immediately transfer the education overseas and still turn around to talk down on Nigeria. Smh. They will lose! You can not cheat Nigeria, Nigerian tax payers and go scot free.

Very soon, these FG schools will be charging cost reflective school fees while indigent students will get loans to pay it. Hardworking, brilliant indigent students will get 100% full scholarship and bond to serve for few years to repay so others behind them can get same scholarship.

The welfarist system of the state drove the nation into monumental debts and widespread multidimensional poverty that produced a largely mediocre set of unpatriotic graduates with entitlement mentality. Imagine generations raised on fuel subsidy, electricity subsidy, education subsidies, health subsidies, free money cash transfer of npower, ponzi schemes, crypto etc, yet they spend most time idling away on Twitter, NL and other social media platforms. That's a legion of generations of largely unproductive lot! It is not sustainable anymore as our debts keep mounting and more youths get used to easy and fast money.

Our universities will now be forced to go back to the days people know why they are in school and will face it squarely to come out with great grades. NUC should equally ban federal universities from admitting JAMB candidates who score less than 200. It's ridiculous that university of Calabar (UNICAL), at almost 50 years of its existence, admits failed JAMB candidates who score 140 shocked How on earth should FG be subsidising the education of a mediocre student who scored 140 out of 400. That's a 35% fail score!Employers should think twice before hiring products from schools giving admission to such students UNICAL recruits for undergraduate study. It's a fraud to admit failed JAMB candidates into a govt university funded with tax payers money!

Everyone must do the right thing to return this nation back to her consistent winning ways. Parents will now take parenting serious because the era you born excess hoping that govt will feed, clothe , train and educate them for you is gone.

You would barely have an idea of how much taxes you pay to the tax authorities until you start paying attention to these details. I recently did my personal income tax clearance and I was surprised to see that over N1,800,000.00 was remitted from my salary over the last 3 years.

Are you aware that the government charges 7.5% percent VAT on most of the items you buy? Who do you think absorb these taxes?

Until we learn to hold our political leaders accountable on the use of public funds, we would barely see any significant changes in this country. What I see you're doing here, is simply making an excuse for their failure.

they always blab rubbish and refuse to put patriotism ahead of political affiliation. i supported tinubu but that does not mean i will hesitate to call him out for his inane policy. Every single Nigerian pays indirect tax and very heavily at that. When an lga taxes market women who bears the burden if not common man, when they tax pos operators who at the end pays for it if not the common man, what about when the health arm goes and collect dues from shop operators? we all pay taxes and its quite an idiotic take when people begin to lay the problems of this country on taxes.

You come to the west for better education and better life wink 3 out of the 5 first generation universities are in the west. Even university rankings confirm that the best universities in Nigeria are in the west. Those who want the best education will naturally gravitate to where they can have it. What we have as advantage is that most Yoruba parents will rather go hungry and wear worn clothes than deny their children of education in these our top universities.

True talk!👍

It’s too small. Fees in Universities like Unilag, Ui, ABU, UNN, OAU, Uniben, BUK, in fact the top federal university in every state should be minimum 1m if we really want to improve the quality of education in Nigeria. Intelligent poor students who are studying courses deemed to be of benefit to society can qualify for federal and state. scholarships.

If you are in a school, any school or University and you don’t see children of noteworthy people in society, know that you are not in a good school. The universities I mentioned above had children of presidents, Vice Presidents, governors, CEOs of top multinationals etc rubbing with children of the poor in the hostels and classes. If the children of elite are not in your school, you are not getting the best education or making lasting life contacts. Children of the elite are not sending their children to N100k pa university. Even if you raise to 5m some will not send so anything below 1m you are just wasting your time. The days of free or cheap University are over.
see u o, most of our governors today went to public universities, they enjoyed this same subsidized education. If school fees is increased to 1m then I can tell u there will be war in the country because 90% won't be able to go. It not about the price now, even the system is faulty because more than 80% of Nigerian can't afford the fee and would immediately drop out. Even most private schools don't charge up to 1m. I am sure u are done with university and u don't have children or brother and sister that u assist in university if not u won't be saying this. Increase school fees to 1m and u kill the education system. U can't give what u don't have. Nationals of top countries in the world don't pay this much to go to their own school. Imagine someone who earns 300k would have to save 4month salary just to pay school fees and u don't need children of top people to be in ur school, people who went to government school still do fine, some even do better compared to children of rich parents.

That's not wickedness.

Quality education is not cheap!

School fees shouldn't be less than 500k per annum.

In the UK, some schools charge over £10k (10 million naira) per annum in tuition.

The FG should let Nigerian schools run like business organisations, so that FG can focus on developing other sectors of the economy.

Tertiary education is not mandatory anywhere in the world.
does the average lecturer buy his basic needs at UK or Germany price? Water, groceries, food, gas, electricity? Or can unilag match the lab condition of those countries and their schools. Let's learn to do balanced comparison.

Pls go and ask any UNILAG student if they have ever paid 16k as school fees since Buhari came to power? Then come back here.

Not up to an hour ago they obidient lar claimed *Unity seconday School* fee jumped from 40k to 100k but a *university* fee was "16k" now jump 100k or 120k pls does this make any sense.
unilag have been paying 16k, they and oau have the cheapest school fees in Nigeria. In fact I still paid 22k for school fees during covid. We all try to make sense sometimes and say cheap education can't improve quality but there are top countries in the world that offer free tuition fees for all levels of education even for foreign students(quote me any time any day and I will mention 4 countries and u can go and do ur research). I just feel over population is part of the cause of our problem and most importantly corruption and selfishness from everyone of us. We all have this mentality that myself comes first and next my family.

1. The people have refused to deal with embezzlement issues to date so pointing that out whenever progress is to be made in other areas is useless. Imagine this one school as a company, a separate entity that needs funds to operate and provide service to its customers. The company is well in its right to raise prices on the service offered. So? undecided

2. I'm afraid I have to disagree! In 2023, $21 is unreasonable. undecided

3. The suffering of the masses has nothing to do with the school/company given that their suffering is a result of their general political ignorance coupled with a foolish approach to living. The school has to make money and pay its staff. Part of that money comes from charging comparable prices for the service it offers. Right now, $130 is ridiculously low. undecided

That's cos the FG was paying most cost associated with running of the schools. Salaries and research funds, building and laboratories, seminar and foreign training or webinars. The ignorant students were busy saying great Nigeria students thinking their useless alutas was some magical wand. As the country is today, the father Christmas - FG - has gone bankrupt. Forget crude oil money, if shared equally, it won't feed us for one month.

The only way out is for all hands to work and contribute something meaningful and not everyone hustling for office jobs and fat salaries.

I am not even doing any comparison here because you cannot compare 500k to 10 million. Some UK schools even charge up to £30k per annum for master's degree. That's 30 million per annum, bros.

There's a reason for that. If you want quality education, you must willing to invest and pay for it. You don't pay peanuts in tuition and still complain that you didn't learn anything in school. In Nigeria, we often say, soup wey sweet, na money cause am. cheesy

You are quick to us UK as a standard. In india, is educatuon that expensive? Yet they have quality system churning capable hands in all sphere of life.

Lets stop rationalising low cost education as poverty education. Cost of transport, power, housing, healthcare, food etc are lower here and giving two professionals from both sides of the divide sane pay will result in one having so.much money at the end of the day. This will also lead to pay disparity and that's bad for the system.
