It’s too small. Fees in Universities like Unilag, Ui, ABU, UNN, OAU, Uniben, BUK, in fact the top federal university in every state should be minimum 1m if we really want to improve the quality of education in Nigeria. Intelligent poor students who are studying courses deemed to be of benefit to society can qualify for federal and state. scholarships.

If you are in a school, any school or University and you don’t see children of noteworthy people in society, know that you are not in a good school. The universities I mentioned above had children of presidents, Vice Presidents, governors, CEOs of top multinationals etc rubbing with children of the poor in the hostels and classes. If the children of elite are not in your school, you are not getting the best education or making lasting life contacts. Children of the elite are not sending their children to N100k pa university. Even if you raise to 5m some will not send so anything below 1m you are just wasting your time. The days of free or cheap University are over.

Those who think education is expensive should try ignorance.

Now it's clear to everyone that the FG has been hugely subsidising education yet the ungrateful unpatriotic beneficiaries of this heavily subsidized education will immediately transfer the education overseas and still turn around to talk down on Nigeria. Smh. They will lose! You can not cheat Nigeria, Nigerian tax payers and go scot free.

Very soon, these FG schools will be charging cost reflective school fees while indigent students will get loans to pay it. Hardworking, brilliant indigent students will get 100% full scholarship and bond to serve for few years to repay so others behind them can get same scholarship.

The welfarist system of the state drove the nation into monumental debts and widespread multidimensional poverty that produced a largely mediocre set of unpatriotic graduates with entitlement mentality. Imagine generations raised on fuel subsidy, electricity subsidy, education subsidies, health subsidies, free money cash transfer of npower, ponzi schemes, crypto etc, yet they spend most time idling away on Twitter, NL and other social media platforms. That's a legion of generations of largely unproductive lot! It is not sustainable anymore as our debts keep mounting and more youths get used to easy and fast money.

Our universities will now be forced to go back to the days people know why they are in school and will face it squarely to come out with great grades. NUC should equally ban federal universities from admitting JAMB candidates who score less than 200. It's ridiculous that university of Calabar (UNICAL), at almost 50 years of its existence, admits failed JAMB candidates who score 140 shocked How on earth should FG be subsidising the education of a mediocre student who scored 140 out of 400. That's a 35% fail score!Employers should think twice before hiring products from schools giving admission to such students UNICAL recruits for undergraduate study. It's a fraud to admit failed JAMB candidates into a govt university funded with tax payers money!

Everyone must do the right thing to return this nation back to her consistent winning ways. Parents will now take parenting serious because the era you born excess hoping that govt will feed, clothe , train and educate them for you is gone.

1. The people have refused to deal with embezzlement issues to date so pointing that out whenever progress is to be made in other areas is useless. Imagine this one school as a company, a separate entity that needs funds to operate and provide service to its customers. The company is well in its right to raise prices on the service offered. So? undecided

2. I'm afraid I have to disagree! In 2023, $21 is unreasonable. undecided

3. The suffering of the masses has nothing to do with the school/company given that their suffering is a result of their general political ignorance coupled with a foolish approach to living. The school has to make money and pay its staff. Part of that money comes from charging comparable prices for the service it offers. Right now, $130 is ridiculously low. undecided

This is the reason for student loan that will take off in September, school will likely not go on strike again and student can get loan for their tuition fee. I think there will be further increments down the line, this is just the beginning, until the tuition fee is good enough to pay proper enumeration for all teaching and non teaching staff. And u think that's the way to go.

How much is education in Germany, Norway, Sweden , etc for citizens ?

If you had sense, you will know that embezzlement by Tinubu type politicians and the chronic loans they put Nigeria into is the reason why Nigeria is broke.

Look at you. 16k no make sense, na 100k per student go make the economy better?
Who come spoil the present day economy ?

What then is Tinubu doing with the money that could have gone to fuel subsidy if he is shedding his responsibilities from other things ? What then is Nigeria doing for her citizens ? More revenue for the FG with attendant shedding if responsibilities is off the hook.

Common sense should tell you that the impoverished citizenry can't afford 100k per child in the same economy that is bleeding or you think the masses aren't the sufferers? Is Tinubu suffering?
do u Kno how much pple pay in those countries as tax... Nothing is free on Earth except it's sponsored... U guys should stop all this jangbajantis... That's not wickedness.

Quality education is not cheap!

School fees shouldn't be less than 500k per annum.

In the UK, some schools charge over £10k (10 million naira) per annum in tuition.

The FG should let Nigerian schools run like business organisations, so that FG can focus on developing other sectors of the economy.

Tertiary education is not mandatory anywhere in the world.
that ll also means public primary secondary Schools will be free and quality improved absolutely... Then establishment of more public primary secondary Schools too by state govt at least in every community in Nigeria...

what u are seeing is capitalist reactions... Not even Atiku or obi would have done magic... Nigerians should hold gorvenors to account too... We focus too much on federal govt... As for education public primary secondary Schools should be free which is where State govt come in.. then we need More self at least every community in Nigeria should have one public primary secondary School at least... And yes pple ll have to pay more tax for certain services to be available to pple in form of sponsored education others... But we need accountability from leaders anyway...

Hello, If you want the Nigerian universities to compete on the world stage, they have to run as a private business that comes with high tuition fees.

The Government can NEVER fund all universities to standards. If you propose that such should be done, then you must be also ready to welcome extremely harsh taxes.

Now you are changing the channel. Are those senators directly related to UNILAG, the company? Do any of the allowances the Nigerian people dole out to those senators go towards directly funding the company called UNILAG? I am not certain why you have to relate those to this issue here. undecided

Why are the Nigerian people waiting for them to do this? Why can't the Nigerian people finally stand up to demand, en masse, that the subsidies be reduced? I remember when the subsidies were first introduced some administrations ago. All Nigerians did was bicker from the sidelines. They did not stand together to reject any or all of it. So, why continue to do the same thinking these pot-bellied politicians will suddenly wake up to giving the people what it is they desire? undecided
