Who's representing contract staff in management meeting?
This is pure propaganda or PR stunt !

Unless they took their matter to ASSBIFI I don't think this is a real story. I ha e worked in financial institution as a contract staff but highly connected to the Board. Nobody speaks for contract staff unless the union that is highly politicized abd compromised by the Board.

One more word and the mouth piece is sacked!

So where is this story coming from ? This is PR Stunt !

it seems you were once a staff of the old Skye Bank now Polaris..... SOF grin

Hmmmm, interesting.....what if the SOFs service providers are already engaging the Bank. I really think patience is key here! Employers are aware of the current situation in the country and I'm pretty sure they are all making efforts to upgrade their workers welfare package.

Re: Polaris Bank Contract Staff Threaten Strike Over Salary Disparity by Jungleluv5: 2:52pm On Jul 25, 2023
All the banks are the same in the term contract staff, some banks call it utility staff while others call it junior staff and many of so full staff were trained by the junior staff.

mrmayoh:
In a recent development at Polaris Bank, the decision to grant a substantial salary increase of 100% to full-time employees due to inflation and rising fuel prices has triggered discontent and agitation among its contract staff. Feeling undervalued and overlooked, the contract staff are voicing their frustration over the glaring disparity in compensation and the lack of growth opportunities within the organization. With threats of a potential strike looming, Polaris Bank faces a critical juncture that could significantly impact its operations.

The Unresolved Salary Disparity:
At the heart of the contract staff's discontent lies the unequal treatment in remuneration. Despite performing the same duties as their full-time counterparts, contract staff members continue to receive insufficient compensation. Demanding a salary increase of 100%, in line with the raise given to full-time staff, they argue for recognition of their contributions and dedication to the bank.

Long Overdue Opportunities for Promotion:
Another point of contention centers around the absence of promotion prospects for contract staff. Shockingly, some contract employees have served in their positions for a staggering 13 years without any potential for career advancement. This lack of professional growth fosters an atmosphere of frustration and stagnation, leading to low morale among the contract workforce.

Equitable Profit Sharing Scheme:
The third demand on the contract staff's list is inclusion in the profit sharing scheme. At present, only full-time employees have access to the benefits of profit sharing, leaving contract staff excluded from the rewards of their collective efforts. In seeking fairness and recognition for their integral role in the bank's success, contract staff are asserting their right to be part of the profit-sharing scheme.

The Threat of Strike Action:
With negotiations between the bank's management and the contract staff still ongoing, tensions remain high. The looming possibility of a strike is putting Polaris Bank on edge, as the contract staff constitute a significant portion of the bank's workforce. A strike could lead to operational disruptions and tarnish the bank's reputation, underscoring the urgency to address the contract staff's grievances promptly.

As Polaris Bank navigates through this critical situation, finding a mutually beneficial resolution is of utmost importance. Acknowledging the vital role played by contract staff and addressing their demands for fair compensation, opportunities for promotion, and inclusion in profit sharing could foster a more harmonious and productive work environment. Balancing the needs of all employees will not only strengthen the bank's position but also promote a sense of loyalty and dedication among its workforce. The ultimate goal must be to foster a work culture where every employee feels valued and motivated to contribute to the bank's continued success.

Polaris Bank is wicked and devilish. I worked with them for almost 12 years as a contract staff. Right before your eyes, they will employ a 24 year old to be your supervisor. You will be the one to train the person, two weeks later the young core staff can give you a deadly query that can send you packing.

How can you leave your very seasoned contract staff and go and hire someone that was still in secondary school while you started working with them to become your boss.

The past and present GMD, EDs and top managers are all cursed!!!

Hmmm. You see why i say the average Nigerian is wicked. Those people setting these contract rules won't see it as bad because it doesn't affect them but when the Government brings harsh policies they complain.
It's easier to put blame on others but not on themselves.

One simple question is, if their children are subjected to such treatments will they be happy?

We blame Europeans for slavery but i tell you slave trade is going on in Nigeria.

These banks should bring out policies that will integrate contract staffs into the system and not make them look like second class citizens in their country.

Any bank that runs these systems is operating a modern day slave trade.

This is extremely bad

I know of some contract staffs of Polaris Bank that have been stagnated to 12 years without promotion or salary increments.

Both their previous management and the present ones are terribly wicked from all I have heard.

Contract job is a crime to humanity. I will never wish any of my siblings to work in the bank as a contract staff. They will used you and dump you without any benefits. I'm happy that the set of contract staffs have one mind inrespective of what the outcome meant be. Fighting for their right and privilege is the way to go. The bank Directors shld regard them as humans and not treating them like slaves. They possess the same degree and qualifications of that of your staff. Hence, let the poor breath and do suffocate them.

The whole point of contract staff is to reduce costs.
I believe the contract staff are not demanding for equal pay with the full staff, their agitation is for a raise in salary to meet up with the current economic situation. Why increase the pay of full staff and leave out the contract staff in this hard time? If they don't need their service anymore, they should do the needful and sack them instead of making them feel less valued.

Everything is wrong with Nigeria, the rich will always find a way to differentiate between them and the less privileged. They came up with this nonsense idea of employing underage graduates to give their children who graduated from private universities at a very young age an edge over commoners who went to State and Federal universities, graduating at age which above bank requirements. If not, which one is contract staff and full staff when they are all doing same jobs? Most of the fresh graduate employed in the name of full staff are trained by the so called contract staff, yet the management will not let the contract staff grow in their career, no benefit, nothing else other than their meagre salary and no regulatory body deem it good to interfere to correct this anomaly.

You guys should always learn to stand up against nonsense. Because they prayed to get the job doesn't mean they should continue to die in silence when they are being maltreated.

Who is to blame for this unfair quagmire?

1. The bank who stated clearly their terms and conditions?

2. The Staff who signed the Terms and conditions? Albeit out of desperation for job.

3. The Middle-man agencies who source for staff for the banks? Bear in mind these are the true employers of the contract staff, not the bank.
