Heyo!

Giving back. Here is our timeline.

I have the EU Blue Card and reside in Berlin.

Booked for re-union visa appointment 23/03/2022

Wife got an email from the embassy on 24/04/2023 for appointment on 16/05/2023 (verification fee was not asked, although she was with it, she did not bother to ask since we were even praying for that long process to be skipped….lol)

Received a letter from ABH on 15/06/2023, dated 9/06/2023 asking to submit documents (verification was indeed skipped)

I submitted the documents on 03/07/2023. I got a response from ABH on 10/07/2023 that my wife's visa has been approved and it is now on Lagos to issue the visa.

12/07/2023, she got an email to submit her passport, travel health insurance and travel date. We submitted all same day and she got her passport with visa stamped on 19/07/2023.

I hope it helps and gives someone hope.

Congratulations, the Lord that did yours will do mine in Jesus name and I will come back here and testify like you in Jesus name Amen Fire

Hello everyone. Please I have a question.
How long/ sure is it for a family reunion visa Remonstration to be approved? It's been 5 months since we applied for a Remonstration at the German Consulate following a rejection letter. They have acknowledged the receipt of the Remonstration letter but since then we haven't heard anything from them or ABH.
Is it wise to send emails or contact the Consulate or ABH?
Please, a good advice will be appreciated.

Not sure how long, but I think you should send them an email, and what was the reason for the visa denial

Good morning all, I am happy to say that my wife has finally gotten the long awaited appointment for family reunion visa interview. We applied on the 6th of June 2022 and got the appointment mail on July 21st, 2023. That's roughly 13 months and a couple of weeks. This might be helpful to other persons on the waiting list. I hope this helps.....fingers crossed.

It was rejected a few weeks after the interview, reason being that we got married after my spouse had travelled to Germany for studies. That's the only reason they gave for the rejection, so we had to remonstrate as directed and to give them reasons why they should approve the reunion visa. Does it mean that students can't apply for family reunion?

Am sorry About that dear but in my own understanding does your spouse has an Eu Blue card already and does he has a good paying job, if no I don’t think family reunification is possible, I don’t think the eligibility is possible because of those things I mentioned, cos you can only be granted visa if your spouse has an Eu Bluecard and has a work contract that pays well and am not sure student can have such full time work, am not sure if student can reunite with family unless they have graduated , have their Eu residence permit and gotten a good job i stand to be corrected though and another reason is that they might think your spouse reason of coming to school was because he wanted to bring you in, these People are wise, they granted your spouse a study visa not yet a residence permit status, so still back to my first point, he needs to have his Eu bluecard residence permit status and already gotten a work that pays before he can talk of reunion. That is it

This is somewhat misleading. While your application will be so much easier with the EU BlueCard or even just ordinary work permit, students generally have valid residence permits and are eligible for family reunion.

Some cities just ask you as a student to have a certain amount of money in blocked account while others want you to have a fairly stable job and even when the salary is not enough, the ABH ask you to block the shortfall. The interpretation of the student being able to support him/herself and the family varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction(city). Everybody knows they don't apply rules the same way in Germany.

The best thing is to find out what obtains in your city.

That said, you can check your eligibility on https://digital.diplo.de/navigator/en/visa#/vib

However, there are situations where students may not be eligible, for example, if the marriage occurred after residence permit was issued to the student. You can check the following link to be sure.

https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/visa-service/buergerservice/faq/09-familiennachzug-studenten/606700

To say that students are not eligible in absolute terms, is inaccurate.

Okay thank you for correcting me that was why I said in my thread that I stand to be corrected, nobody knows all and the reason I said that was because I have seen cases like that where ABH requested that you have a good work before they can grant a visa and if you are saying some cities accept that they block account while some will request on another requirement, okay oo I agree with you on that , but all I know is that Job and salary is very important when it comes to reunification process. Thank you

Meaning you got married after the visa was issued, haa that is where the issue came from , it in the eligibility that the marriage must already existed before your husband got his study Visa, like you should be married before he travelled look at the attachment below

I don't quite agree with the marriage requirement stated in this post.....I stand to be corrected. No one has the right to tell you when to get married. Some people left to Germany to study at an earlier age or when they were not yet ready to marry. Are you now telling me that after few years, if the person decides to marry, his/her spouse won't be issued a visa to reunite with the family?

My standpoint is: The spouse in Germany needs to have a good job to take care of the spouse (mostly a full-time job and not the student's 20hrs/week job).
Once this requirement is met, whether you were married before or after you arrived Germany is immaterial. I have seen cases of people that married after they left to Germany and were still able to bring their spouses over.

The above explanation may differ with spouses that are still students based on my findings so far.

My advice would be, do everything within your reach to prove to them that you deserve to live together with your spouse and not separated from him/her. You may be lucky, its just a trial and luck stuff. If you have money, the best approach is to involve an immigration lawyer.

All the best

It is quite understandable if the spouse is still a student and marriage did not occur before visa. The rule is the rule.

Question is do they apply the rule to students who have now converted to a work permit? That will be funny o.

Shouldn't the permit/status be changed from being student to a 'worker' f you have a full-time job?

Does not apply if you have graduated and have a full time job, work permit or EU Blue card. I studied also, so I know from my experience and that of others.

Emphasis is on having a job that can feed you and your spouse, the 20hrs allowed weekly student work time cannot do this.
