The church was not mentioned but it definitely cannot be the Catholic church.

The bureaucracy involved does not even give the priest authority to sell a pin in the parish priest residence let alone the church Land.

It is either this is fake news or another church is involved.

Africans are not backward because religion.

Most industrial nations became industrialised because they had limited resources, and had to make the best use of their resources to develop. And many of them were religious in the process of developing (and some still somewhat are...Japan is very developed, yet has shrines all over the place to this god and that. Estonia is highly developed, yet most of the population practices pagan religions, USA is developed and highly religious, even among people who are leftists).

Africa is underdeveloped because we run our economies on the principle of selling raw materials, and using the money to import things. Suggest to some African leader that we should make our own phones...we use phones a lot...and you would get weird looks. Yet that is how some Japanese industries, to use an example, developed. Like now, a lot of people think that we have enough oil money to spend on ourselves....we don't and we would have more if we exported manufactured goods and servicies.

Also, we in Africa do not believe in paying taxes. We also believe too much in subsides....which is why even countries like South Africa are falling apart...government is funding too many welfare oriented programmes that are stretching the income...and tax to gdp is not high enough. The thing is, if we paid market price for the power we use, we would have decent power supply here for example. But based on the argument that we are poor...we pay and have been paying heavily subsidsied power prices...which means the sector cannot pay for improvements, new facllities, etc.

And here we are.

Maybe when we see that we don't have enough resources, and start using our brains to develop an economy based on industries, maybe wehwn we pay market prices for power, etc, and also pay taxes...all of us, not some of us....we may become developed.

And then there is North Korea, which is officially atheist, and has collapsed. Most communist countries were free of religion, and also ran heavily subsidized economies...and over planned command economies....which all collapsed...and led to things like scarcity, loss of industrial capacity, etc. If freedom from religion led to advancement...how come after nearly 70 years of atheist rule in the USSR, there were scarcities, poor quality products, etc.?
