So, when automobiles first began to arrive, loudly sputtering along the island's once-quiet roadways, startling horses and spitting out smoke, it quickly became apparent to locals that this new invention was not for them.

It made sense. Even if they didn't ban cars, I don't see how you can drive there. It's a very small island, surrounded by water. You cant drive in and out. Goree Island in Senegal also has no cars.

There is no official policy to ban cars there, but if you check it on the map, it just made no sense for cars to exist on Goree Island. It's so small and surrounded by water, you can only enter there by boat.

You are just another one let me not call you names, what do you mean by poops and poops,is what makes America to dump horses for conveying of goods and human beings, just go and watch peter stello documentary on YouTube about the Amish people.and know how they are still making use of horses and carriages for transportation.no dirty for their roads even inside there village roads are more cleaner than let me say ok. I haven't travel much but as for little I have commute from abia,bini,akwa ibom,and port harcourt.you can't compare their roads in any reason

Quite cool a policy and for them to have maintained that for a century is something to be proud of. At least, the gap between the rich and the poor is somewhat bridged.

However, there are police cars, ambulances, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.

I think there are some highland here in Nigeria too that have no cars, the highest you can see is bike
