I bought the 13 Pro Max Brand New also the MacBook Pro

When I did the update I noticed the size of the update it was somewhere around 3-5GB I can't remember, I didn't understand the reason why, but I chose to ignore it, the day I changed the screen for the 13 Pro Max the Bolt guy told me how his 11 Pro max screen also went blank for not reason, also a brand new Phone, then my Girlfriend told me about her coursemate 13 Pro Max same issue, the Guy that changed the screen said it's normal issue that it happens for "No reason" it just depends on how lucky you are, omor it was at that point I knew some really bad business practice was really going on, had to go to YouTube omor everyone complaining of same thing.

Apple is DRMING their hardware. So with newer model devices if you replace a part with a non oem part or even an oem part whose serial is not recognized there is a risk it will stop working after an update. First I read of this was an iPhone model whose screen or maybe finger print reader stopped working after an update. It's obviously not a big deal in obodo oyibo (or it is but they are cool with apple tax) but it is in naija because the truth of the matter is you really have no idea of your macs history beyond the fact that it is working on the place where you bought it.

Completely fked up as my default behavior is to update any software or is. I have that 2012 mac mini running ventura ( via opencore sha)

And it is harder and harder to bypass apples drm / protections

I on and off follow Louis Rossman on yt. Dude made a name for himself fixing apple products and he has nothing good to say about apples policies with respect to right to repair.

Every year thousands of discarded corporate pcs make their way to places like Nigeria. A little tweaking and they are good to go. But apples icloud is effectively unbreakable and a lot of discarded apple pcs are not wiped before disposing - so they are effectively unusable. angry

I use a MacBook Pro 15 inch 2017 Model

I was using it Yesterday and all of a sudden the screen went totally blank and it has refused to display anything

I took it to Technician and the guy some servicing but it didn't work.

He said I'll have to change the screen which will cost me about 250k

250k? I certainly will never spend that on a laptop screen which may still bring same problem in future.

What do you advise I do now?

How will I utilize the laptop?

The laptop still works well just the screen.

I'm thinking of using a monitor with HDMI but have never gone through this route before

How would you use a laptop like this?

qtguru, truthcoder

Just get an external monitor funny this is the second time I am hearing a story like this. One of my guy has similar occurrence he used multiple external monitor anyways but later got a new macbook. Just use an external monitor I would say there are cheap ones of 80 to 120k that are at least 1080p but last I checked this price was over a year ago and with the current situation it will be higher.

This is the thing. Once you are buying IN NIGERIA, you cannot say if what you are buying is actually brand new. There were cases at work where dealerships actually sold the company cars that had been sold and returned as brand new. I have bought manufacturer refurb pcs. If I was planning on reselling I could have removed the refurb sticker and sold the devices as brand new. No one would have been the wiser. So my point is you don't actually know if what you are buying is brand new or we correct one small problem.

Oga I bought my 13 Pro max the week it was released, please tell me what I don't know, and there is also a way to check if an iPhone is brand new or Not, don't try to convince me otherwise when I know what I experienced.

Your phone screen got damaged days after the update. How could they have been related? In addition, if you bought your phone as used, the possibility of having fake components (including fake or hacked screens) that can fail unexpectedly is high.

As regards your motherboard, did you even do an SMC reset before going to computer village where one boy under an umbrella has concluded that your motherboard has returned to its ancestors?

If dumb girls and boys can own and use iPhones all across the world, dont you think an event such as a widespread bricking of devices after update would have been trending non stop? Why should we be hearing only from you?

Not only from Him bro.
It's quite common.
You'll only notice it's common when you experience the problem and go online for help only to see hundreds of blogs and YouTube videos addressing exactly the same thing.

PS: This blank screen issue has happened to my mom's iPad for no reason, I tried to update it using iTunes on desktop and the phone just got stock on the bootloader/update. And don't say it's virus, I know a virus can't be downloaded with the iTunes app from Apple's Website.

Then also, another of mom's Apple device, iPhone has a blank camera that refuses to show pix.
When this happens, the flashlight stops working as well and the shutter button on the camera app refuses to respond even when in general, the phone is not hanging or lagging. I searched — another common problem.
It's kinda deliberate.

There's this YouTube guy, Phone Repair Guru, he got a blank screen iPhone, replaced the screen, new screen still displayed blank until he ripped of the earphone jack, that's when the old screen worked perfectly.
