How are they supposed to get the blood?

Something is not available, and you are blaming someone who does not have the authority and capacity to provide it.

Bros if blood is not available in the hospital, the hospital knows how they get blood.

The "blood is not available" talk does not fly.

I'm sure the hospital has her details which includes her blood type, it's easy to get blood from blood bank if the hospital actually knows what they are doing.

During my wife child birth and we needed blood, I paid for 2 pint of blood and we got the blood in 30mins (The hospital also didnt have blood in their blood bank).

It just show how badly that hospital is being run. It might even be that they've sold all the blood in their blood bank without replacing them.

The hospital does not know what they are doing. I agree

But blaming her colleagues for not getting blood ready get as e be.

You cannot say if it took forever to get it. Because your wife got hers in 30 minutes doesn't mean it can't take more.

LASUTH which is the mother of all GH in Lagos, did not have blood when the train victims were brought there.

If someone is out of your control, there's nothing you can do about it

Those talking about blood or no blood being available , this was addressed in the paragraph 2 of the NMA memo .

They said the blood was not available because of the government’s review on blood donation policy .

I think the question people should be asking is “what is the details of this blood donation that led to non availability of blood in the blood bank of a general hospital as big as General Hospital Lagos Island “?

At least so we know in order to confirm where we stand in case any of us find ourselves in such unfortunate position in the future .

There are ways to source the blood from outside the hospital bro. That's what I'm blaming her colleagues for.

The hospital CMD and its board as lots of questions to answer.

They have not said what the policy is. This is a copout imho.

Also they are not serious imho - trying to push the blame squarely to the lagos infrastructure mgt agency. The hospital CMD is one of their own. So They want to pretend he has no liability in this issue.

This is going to be a long saga of everyone dodging blame.

From what was explained to me when my wife needed blood, they dont accept blood donation again for emergencies without the blood being processed and certified for use before giving the patient. The doctor said there were alot of blood transfusions death which causes the Lagos state govt to review the policy.

I don't know how true it is.

Well I don’t see it as they pushing blames, instead I see them reveal one of the reasons why the lady died eventually .

We’ve all known there was no blood and we are wondering how can such big government hospital not have blood ? Then here they are telling us it’s cos there’s a policy change as far as blood donation is concerned .

Let the government policy change be talked about in full details , the public deserve to know if such incidents happening in the future can still lead to death cos of the same policy .

I am all in for the CMD to be indicted along with some top management for the malfunction of the elevator and putting it in order for years . But I also want the angle of the blood donation policy explored to avert such unfortunate event in the future

They are highlighting what has been said about Tinubu over and over. The man is not petty and does not keep grudges.

He has identified this man as a person who can deliver.

Probably told him - you think you can actually make change and not just be an internet noisemaker?

And the nominee also does not send. If he did he would have deleted the tweets or made them private.

Maybe it’s time for the government to review the policy . At least in cases of emergencies like this one

The policy unfortunately has a point even more so today. With all the drug abuse going on you could be jumping from frying pan to fire with some blood donations - particularly as druggies are likely to donate blood for money.

But private hospitals have access to blood so I really think it is about relationship management

It's looking somehow, trying to rope her colleagues into this, people that have in several times seen this same system fail patient upon patient...maybe they wanted those patients that the system had been failing to die.

I'm sure doctors like Unlimited22 and Afrodoc would be in the best position to speak on what's possible and what isn't in a situation like happened with this doctor.

I even heard hospitals have stopped storing blood banks cause of electricity (not unlinked to the fuel situation). So this means they'd have to first run the doctors blood type, then start searching for a match...it's even possible these hospitals don't even have a database of the blood type of their employees, or maybe if they do, the person in charge has to comb through files or maybe wasn't even on seat as at when the accident happened. It's Nigerian civil service, and we know as e dey go there...it's sad what happened, and it's unfortunate that in all this, the heads that should roll won't roll.

I think theres an exception to the policy and that's if the emergency involve mass victims that blood banks might not necessarily be able to meet up.

But this incident is just a victim, they should be able to get blood from blood banks if the hospital is being run properly.

And all this bring to the fore how badly run the hospital is.

Blood is not available in the hospital doesn't stop the hospital from getting blood from somewhere else.

The hospital being badly run isn't necessarily the fault of her colleagues, a good number of whom are there to run internship and be on their way to more sane situations or are powerless in the face of the general malaise that is Nigerian public service.

As in most cases like this, it was the fault of management, and heads should roll top down, anything less than that will be a joke thing.

You do know the head of the management of an hospital is a CMD and they are usually senior medical doctors right?

What have we gotten from Russia? A steel plant that has not worked for one day since it's inception

What have we gotten from China? Predatory infrastructure loans. China has literally taken over infrastructure in sovereign countries that defaulted on their loans.

And Chinese infrastructure loans are a special kind of arse fucking.

You come to me for an infrastructure loan. I give it to you but you must use my company to execute. So what is the real cost to me? Nothing. Infrastructure projects are supposed to stimulate and boost the economy. But it is Chinese designing, bringing in materials. The best we are getting from their projects are employment of labourers and site supervisors. And maybe supply of gravel and sand.

I am not excited about any alignment with Russia a country that is simply Nigeria on a much larger scale. Corruption, oppression of minorities, large scale theft of national wealth.

But let us agree to disagree.

I have classmates who live and work in the UK who are putin stans and I have to wonder why they cannot put their pocket where their convinctions are and migrate to Russia.
We are a weird bunch I liken a lot of Nigerians to muslims that ran from Wahhabism and Salafism to the West then get there and start preaching and pushing for it. Like if it's that good why not stay in Afghanistan you ran from

as an aside - the exact same thing is happening in lagos

for the past 15 years middle class northerners have been migrating enmass to lagos. now they want to entrench the same hard core conservative nonsense that made the north uninhabitable in the first place

A rock and a hard place then.

That said, this situation with the doctor isn't on her colleagues, it's a rot that goes deep. I'm sure this isn't the first time someone is losing their lives cause of the sequence of events relating to the hospitals handling of emergencies, just unfortunate that this time around, the victim was one of them, plus the nature of the accident, that's why we're even hearing anything about it, otherwise, this incompetence is but another day in the office for them. It's sad, nobody deserves that kind of end, especially someone that's dedicated their lives to saving people from such fates.

Like I said, it's a rock and a hard place, and most likely, what should be done won't be done.

The only reason I'm blaming her colleagues was that they should've gone the extra mile for her. It's a sad incident totally.

Hopefully some people are held accountable right from those that should've fixed the elevators and didn't.
