The President, Bola Tinubu, has written to the Senate seeking its support on the deployment of military personnel to the Niger Republic.

He also sought the backing of the legislature on the cutting off of electricity to the country.

The PUNCH had reported that Niger’s democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, was toppled by his guards.

Tinubu, Nigeria’s president and the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, had on Sunday met with some fellow ECOWAS leaders to discuss appropriate ways to restore democracy in Niger.

The leaders of the West African regional bloc met to discuss sanctions to be placed against the military personnel who toppled Bazoum on July 26, 2023.

The President’s letter read, “Political situation in Niger. Following the unfortunate political situation in Niger Republic culminating in the overthrow of its President, ECOWAS under my leadership condemned the coup in its entirety and resolved to seek the return of the democratically elected govt in a bid to restore peace, ECOWAS convened a meeting and came out with a communique.”

The president further sought support for, “Military buildup and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant.

"Closure and monitoring of all land borders with the Niger Republic and reactivating of the border drilling exercise.

“Cutting off Electricity supply to the Niger Republic, mobilising international support for the implementation of the provisions of the ECOWAS communique.”

“Preventing the operation of commercial and special flights into and from Niger Republic; Blockade of goods in transit to Niger especially from Lagos and eastern seaports,” he added.

Tinubu also told the Senate that the country was embarking on sensitisation of Nigerians and Nigerians on the imperative of these actions, particularly via social media.

Lol.

Kind of news that delights the soul.

How we have yearned to be parted from this colonial contraption for eons. How peachy to finally see God working in mysteriously exciting ways through the Iragbiji ancestor to bring this desire to fruition.. grin. Niger Delta can finally breathe.

Kai. Nigeria is about to go to war for the first time since ECOMOG. That Bazoum or Bazooka of a President must be very valuable to Nigeria because I heard he gives out a lot of contracts to the northern Hausa/Fulani elite of Nigeria who installed him into office.

Over to the Igbos who have declared their support for the coup plotters in Niger.
Something I don't understand about Igbos though, not long ago they were criticizing Buhari for building a railway link to Maradi.
They accused Buhari of helping his people in Niger, fast forward to now, they are ready to pay the Supreme price, as in lay down their lives for Niger.

I don't get it.

Watching...

We know that Nigeria as a project is not sustainable, we didn't know a drug baron masquarading as president will be used to test that assertion.

Tinubu needs this war more than even the people of Niger Republic or Nigeria, let him go ahead and wage his war.

I'll be watching with popcorn.

Tinubu should be very careful, I know it's the west that is urging him to go to war, because of what they stand to gain, but he should consider the danger ahead.

What Wagner? Wagner is coming to fight Ecowas for trying to defend democracy in a member state? What exactly will be Wagner's mission? To restore peace or to continue looting the resources of the Nigeriens just like they have been doing in some other African countries?
Re: BREAKING: Tinubu Writes Senate, Seeks Support For Military Deployment To Niger by EmeeNaka: 2:27pm On Aug 04, 2023
The Military coup in Niger Republic has presented Nigeria with a difficult situation.
The presence of Wagner group in the border of any democratic country or any country with some sort of stability is a cause for concern.
Warner groups are akin to a terrorist group.

Yeah, the idea that a Russian mercenary group is going to take root in Niger, our closest neighbor is enough reason to kick out the coupists in Niger.
Business of exploitation and impoverishing Africans?

If we're going to fight any body on looting resources we should start from the west and not Russia. ECOWAS should have fought France a long time ago

The same people who supported Russia to invade Ukraine.
All of a sudden are not happy the same Russia is supporting Niger to oust the west.

France is a terribly corrupt colonialist country, take a look at all their colonies in Africa.

Bazoum should be brought to book, a very corrupt leader who wined and dined with Buhari.
