Why Do People Get Discouraged From Buying Hyundai Vehicles In Nigeria? by Grit2943(m): 4:19pm On Aug 05, 2023
Good afternoon everyone.
Happy weekend.
I have discovered that people get discouraged from buying Hyundai vehicles in Nigeria and told to go for other brands like Toyota or Honda.

Please I will like to know why Toyota or Honda is always recommended to prospective Hyundai buyers.

Thank you very much.

I think is because electrical issues and Nigeria rewires doesn't understand the system.

In my own case I never heard mechanical issue but electrical issues then a particular day I drove the car to a restaurant and I was done within an hour and the vehicle refused to start not even a crack and the car is keyless. Over 10 rewires worked on the Electra for 3 months it didn't crack before I sold it as NOTHING and by then I have spent so much on it. Now I have my peace of mind.

I won't touch Hyundai again.

I never used one but from hearsay the parts are quite expensive just in tandem with it's brother brand Kia

If you had searched online for the nearest Kia Service Center, and towed the car there, you will still be enjoying your ride by now.
Kia and Hyundai are one and the same.

Thank you.

Be specific, what model of hyundai do you have in mind? New or 2nd hand?, so we can offer advice appropriately.

As for me and my family, its KIA KIA Hyundai and we have no issues with them.

Second hand 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe with four cylinders or 2012 Hyundai Sonata.

Thank you very much.

Nigerians love herd mentality when it comes to cars. It's Toyota or nothing according to them the parts no de pass 2k and even a vulcanizer can detect the fault and repair it. I haven't driven a Hyundai nor do I own one but a friend drives the Hyundai coupe car is 7 years old and still running. Mind you he's maintenance culture is top notch. I'd advise, before you get the car make proper findings on parts availability and affordability and also locate a good technician that specializes on only Korean products i.e Kia and Hyundai. if it matches your pockets and taste go for it

Thank you very much.

Abort mission with 2012 Sante Fe, you cannot manage its engine issues as a first time Hyundai user and besides, it had a factory recall

2012 Sonata is strongly recommended based on my usage experience. It was bought brand new and i sold it at mileage 152k in good condition. The only thing to note is that, it is GDi (Gasoline Direct Injection), it will give you better fuel efficiency and power, but with carbon build up over time. To forestall this build up, you can be using injector cleaner every 3000 miles or after every oil change

The parts are readily available, not so expensive, but not as cheap as its equivalent in Toyota - Camry

Finally, you will need a Kia/Hyundai trained Mechanic/Electrician to be servicing your car. If you reside in PH or Asaba, I can recommend one or two for you

The problem with Nigerians in all ways and particularly with cars as this topic refers is the herd mentality and Kazeem culture.

Mind you, these are a people who do not manufacture a bolt or nut, but they are often quick to condemn car brands, give them funny condescending nicknames and all.

All the cars Nigerians condemn are cars used in other climes where they respect maintenance culture a.k.a servicing as at when due and proper inspection done from certified technicians.

If you want to enjoy any brand of car in this Nigeria, refuse to listen to any "herded" fellow Nigerian. Decide what car you fancy, find an authorized maintenance shop for your brand of car, be sure your wallet is okay, and you are good to go.

Some time ago we got a 2013 Hyundai Elantra "Tokunbo". On the first day, e don dey give signal of starter issues. We had to take it to a Hyundai facility. After diagnostics, the fault was detected and fixed. It was pricey though but well worth it to date.

I will urge all Kia/Hyundai enthusiast to always SCAN your vehicles before attempt any repair if possible.

I believe the guy that sold his elantra for not being able to cold start his engine might have issue with either camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor or even the ecm.

A kia/hyundai certified mechanic/electrician is very important for you to enjoy the brand.

Hyundai and Kia have had engine persistent issues on all their vehicles for the last 5 years. There are even class action suits to force them to do the needful as so far they have refused to acknowledge that the engines are defective

the cars dont have second hand value in Nigeria. The bad roads damage them over time when compared to toyota and honda. The mechanics available also do not understand the electrical parts of the car. The parts are also not cheap. Abeg no go buy problem

Don’t do it! If you go to my profile, you will see that I sold mine in 2020. The parts are so expensive, it is not a rugged brand that is fit for Nigerian roads and mechanics will kill you with misdiagnosis of simple problems.
