They came into my city last 2 years and residents can't seem to have enough of their affordable meals.

There's always a queue. grin

They must be doing something right.

Even this thread is making me crave their meal

white rice and stew with moi moi and sprite... it's very cheap and a good way to enjoy the weekend

As much as proper franchising to capable business owners is important, UAC as a brand didn't give promos enough, less incentive for customers look at their other brands like Galla, it's just not making enough sales

Chicken Republic are offering and advertising 500 lunch park, they are selling a 1200 lunch combo, their graphics are fantastic
.

Times are different and businesses would give incentives that appeals to the demographic.

Mr Biggs functioned in an era that Nigerians valued family time. An era where families were not torn apart by mass japa wave. What Nigerians wanted then was to hang out with family and watch Barney dance. Mr Biggs did this and more for kids in the 90s to early 2000. I wouldn't know if they were around before then.

What killed Mr Biggs wasn't their inability to share free food. It wasn't all milk and honey, but Nigerians could still feed and parents could take their kids to Amusement Park and Bar Beach. Something we rarely see in 2023 amongst even the lower middle class. Grown adults of that era weren't waiting for anyone to share rice for them on a hot work day. grin

Nostalgia grin .

. after church on Sunday families headed to MrBiggs, proper dates were held at MrBiggs , amusement park with roller coasters and the small electric cars

I think you are right Nigeria economy drastically changed and people can not afford some luxury time with families

Also considering that we are in the hot girl summer era having about 800 new fancy restaurants in Victoria Island & Lekki alone, every weekend one new restaurant opens up with the same food & overpriced cocktail drinks with weird names like sex in the city bla bla bla for 10,000 Naira per glass. Back in the day around early 2000s, nobody used to complain about prices of food in eateries or who is paying when men & women hang out because It used to be super affordable. Now eating out in places like ThePlace or Chicken Republic is seen as old school or people struggling. Something we used to so happy to do.

You know Lagos restaurants thrive on ambience and elitism. You don't want to go where every other person is going. Plus these new restaurants are picturesque. It is not like the customers do not know they are overpriced, they know. When they are really hungry, they go to The Place.

The Place has such varieties and I love them for that. Looks like they opened in my hood recently.
