OkpaNsukkaisBae:
Why you dey shift goal post?... I never mentioned Lagos Calabar line. Okay so the coastal line is having issues since 2017? What about the Eastern narrow gauge line? Dis wan too dey get issues?.... So how the South East lawmakers stop the portharcourt to maiduguri narrow gauge linehuh
Your problem is that you are mixing things up together.

The one they called Eastern Rail is the one that runs from PH to Maiduguri and work is already going on that route.

The bone of contention in my argument with BlueRayDick was the Lagos to Calabar railline.

The PH to Maiduguri line is a reconstruction, they are reconstructing the existing line there while the Lagos to Calabar is a new line to be built from scratch.

The reconstruction of the PH to Maiduguri line started last year.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nairametrics.com/2022/04/11/infrastructure-fg-commences-reconstruction-of-port-harcourt-maiduguri-line/%3famp=1

You keep jumping into discussion you have no idea about and then begin to jump from pillar to post.

Both the standard & narrow gauge line are all having issues? But the Kano maradi standard line is not having issues... Abuja to kaduna & Lagos to ibadan were issue free...huh

Nice one
It's not my fault that you are unable to read properly.

What I have been arguing about with since is the Lagos to Calabar rail and I keep mentioning it in all my post.

If you are talking about the PH to Maiduguri railline, work is ongoing on the line.

I'm pained that I've just wasted my time with you since if you dont know the difference between Lagos to Calabar and PH to Maiduguri.

It's not my fault you are unable to read. In the link you posted, the minister even said that they have been working on the project with the funds budgeted by the govt and the reason why the project is slow is because they havent gotten the loan funding they were expecting.

The minister said this last year december because they were asking him if the project will be delivered before Buhari leave office.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU VOWS TO END NIGERIA’S OVERRELIANCE ON BORROWING FOR PUBLIC EXPENDITURE

... sets 18% Tax to GDP target in 3 years

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja expressed his resolute commitment to break the vicious cycle of overreliance on borrowing for public spending, and the resulting burden of debt servicing it places on the management of Nigeria’s limited government revenues.

Inaugurating the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, chaired by Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, the President charged the committee to improve the country’s revenue profile and business environment as the Federal Government moves to achieve an 18% Tax-to-GDP ratio within three years.

The President directed the Committee to achieve its one-year mandate, which is divided into three main areas: fiscal governance, tax reforms, and growth facilitation.

He also directed all government ministries and departments to cooperate fully with the committee towards achieving their mandate.

President Tinubu told the Committee members the significance of their assignment, as his administration carries the burden of expectations from citizens who want their government to make their lives better.

''We cannot blame the people for expecting much from us. To whom much is given, much is expected.

''It is even more so when we campaigned on a promise of a better country anchored on our Renewed Hope Agenda. I have committed myself to use every minute I spend in this office to work to improve the quality of life of our people,'' he declared.

Acknowledging Nigeria's current international standing in the tax sector, the President said the nation is still facing challenges in areas such as ease of tax payment and its Tax-to-GDP ratio, which lags behind even Africa's Continental average.

"Our aim is to transform the tax system to support sustainable development while achieving a minimum of 18% tax-to-GDP ratio within the next three years.

''Without revenue, government cannot provide adequate social services to the people it is entrusted to serve.

''The Committee, in the first instance, is expected to deliver a schedule of quick reforms that can be implemented within thirty days. Critical reform measures should be recommended within six months, and full implementation will take place within one calendar year," the President directed.

Recounting the President's sterling track record on revenue transformation, the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, Mr. Zacchaeus Adedeji described the committee members, drawn from the public and private sectors, as accomplished individuals from various sectors.

''Mr. President, you have the pedigree when it comes to revenue transformation. You demonstrated this when you were the Governor of Lagos State over 20 years ago," the Special Adviser said.

Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele pledged the total commitment of members to give their best in the interest of the nation.

"Many of our existing laws are out-dated, hence they require comprehensive updates to achieve full harmonisation to address the multiplicity of taxes, and to remove the burden on the poor and vulnerable while addressing the concerns of all investors, big and small," he said.

Maybe it is my own understanding, but i think a Lagos-Calabar rail would yield a better and faster ROI than Kano-Maradi.

I don't even see how only 2 Senators are enough to stop a bill/project. A rail from Lagos to Calabar cannot have only Abaribe complaining. Lagos have Senators. Same for Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta and all the states on that corridor. So which one be say na Abaribe stop am?

I just dey ask oh

It’s beer parlor gist taken too far . It’s no different from Shetimma saying Lagos was a super slum before Tinubu became the governor

Toor.

I no too know the story, but just reading from both sides, it is hard to comprehend how two senators ensured that it didn't work.

The biggest beneficiaries of a rail network are those where it starts, and those where it terminates.

Abaribe and his Abia do not fall into any of that category. So what were Lagos and Cross River senators saying when Abaribe was opposing?

The Lagos to Calabar railine is an expensive project. It's to cost $11.12bn and constructed by CCECC. Exim Bank of China was supposed to fund the project.

This was when the project was signed in 2016.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/fg-ccecc-sign-mou-11-12bn-lagos-calabar-railway-project/amp/

In September 2017 after series of outrage about Chinese loans and the likes, Exim bank then refused to fund the project which means the govt have to look for another partner for the project.

4yrs after in 2021, the FG approved the project again to CCECC and the search for investor to invest in the railline began again.

https://www.thecable.ng/fec-approves-11bn-for-lagos-calabar-coastal-rail-project/amp

In Oct 2022, The minister for transportation announced they have reached an advanced agreement with Standard Chartered Group to finance 85% of the project while the govt finance the remaining 15%.

If Exim bank of China had not withdrawn from the project, the project will surely have been completed. In that time space, the Lagos - Ibadan rail was constructed, the Itapke to Warri line was completed, the Ibadan to Kano line construction has started also while the PH to Maiduguri line reconstruction started also.

This is the route of the Lagos to Calabar railline. Theres no way Abariabe will say the route didnt follow Aba.

Maybe you are talking of the Eastern corridor. PH to Maiduguri.

The old Eastern corridor line pass through only Abia and Enugu but the approved reconstruction will also pass through Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi taking the states the PH to Maiduguri line will pass through to 14 from 10.

I am not disputing your story.

What i can't understand is when you said SE senators, with you naming 2, are responsible for it not happening then.

How can 2 senators be the reason, when there are more than 24 senators that are going to benefit from it?

If Abaribe was outraged by the fact that it was a Chinese loan, what did the senator from Cross River or Bayelsa or Lagos say? Nothing.

I don't think the project was stalled because 2 SE senators opposed it, and you know it isn't true too.

The Lagos senators already have a Lagos to Kano route that will pass through all SW states all the way to Kano.

If they are to chose one, I know the one they will most likely chose. Infact the completed Lagos to Ibadan line is testament.

Projects like this is all about collaboration.

That's 27 senators represented in the house

So when Abaribe was opposing it, what did the remaining 24 senators say?
