Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo, GCFR (6 March 1909 – 9 May 1987)
,the best and greatest Nigerian political leader in the history of modern Nigeria never became the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The legacies of his outstanding visionary leadership are still manifested in Western Nigeria.
He was the first Leader of Government Business and Minister of Local Government and Finance, and first Premier of the Western Region under Nigeria's parliamentary system, from 1952 to 1959. And he is recognized as one of the Founding Fathers of the nation for his key role in Nigeria's independence movement (1957-1960).

You don't need to become the President of Nigeria to be a great nation builder.

Lies from the pit of hell. Anthony Enahoro is the best and greatest Nigerian politician that never become a president.

Awo was a fraudulent western agenda, just like the one in Aso Rock today.

Awolowo!

The first Nigerian tribalist.

Azikiwe’s party won majority in Western Nigeria which would have seen Azikiwe become the Premier of Western Nigeria. Awolowo went to all the Yoruba people that won election under Azikiwe’s NCNC and told them “Yoruba Ronu”. And that was how all of them defected from NCNC to Awolowo’s AG a night before inauguration which gave Awolowo’s party the majority and thereby helping him become Premier.

Again, when Benin and Delta was still part of Western Nigeria, Awolowo wanted to force Yoruba as Lingua Franca for the entire subregion even though the Binis and Deltans had their own languages.

Till this day, there’s no legacy project that can be attributed to Awolowo in Benin and Delta when they were part of Western Region. But Michael Okpara built the Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt and also the Trans Amadi Industrial cluster in Port Harcourt when Rivers was still part of Eastern Region.

Awolowo was the most divisive character Nigeria has ever had. He’s the one that Tinubu learned from and is trying to even outdo.

Our fathers were right to reject him as president.

Charity begins at home.
He used the revenues from the export of cocoa to develop Western Nigeria, launched the first TV network in West Africa, built the Cocoa House and Western House and provided free education for his people and scholarships for studies in universities in America and Europe.

What did the Igbo political leaders achieve with palm oil?

Photos:
Cocoa House, was completed in July 1964 and commissioned in July 1965. At a height of 105 metres, it was the first skyscraper in West Africa and was, from 1965 to 1979, the tallest building in Nigeria.
It is located in Dugbe, a major commercial area in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. It was built from proceeds of agricultural commodities (e.g., Cocoa, Rubber, Timber) of the then Western State of Nigeria.
The iconic Western House is a 20-storey office complex in the Lagos Island Central Business District (CBD).
Western House is home to the Corporate Headquarters of Wemabod Limited. It is a landmark structure and the first skyscraper to be constructed in Lagos Island. The building has a total of about 13,000m2 of lettable space.

Boss, Awolowo's Mentality is

Yoruba, FIRST
Nigerian, SECOND. sad smiley

In Reality, There is nothing wrong with that as we are all Like that.
We love our Tribe, more than our Country.

Awolowo is the Not in the CLASS of Any Nigerian Politician today!😏

He was well Schooled, had International Connections, and had Brilliant Ideas on how to move Nigerian forward.🙂

His Only Mistake, he didn't like working with the Illiterate, Parasitic North
Which Tinubu is doing now.😕

I agree with you 100% that Awolowo was probably the most cerebral of the trio of Azikiwe, Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo. His only problem, which was his greatest undoing, was his tribalistic tendencies.

I don’t think anyone having the mentality of Yoruba First, Nigeria second, is someone worth celebrating or handing Nigeria over to.

Did you know that when the British wanted to ban the explort of cocoa, Zik used his newspaper to justify it knowing fully well that stopping export of cocoa was detrimental to the SW?

Not wanting an Igbo man to be premier of the West when there's already an Igbo premier of the East is such a bad thing?

It is not what it is.

The Nigerian peculiarity demands that anyone who must strive to lead her must not show that he puts his tribe first but demonstrate (or pretend to demonstrate) pan-Nigerianism.

Look at all our leaders since 1960, only Buhari is the ethnic bigot that has succeeded in ruling Nigeria successfully. Another ethnic bigot who took power after Gowon, Murtala Muhammed, was gruesomely murdered.

So, you can’t be excusing Awolowo’s open display of his tribalism.

You said it all.

If only Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Dr. Michael Okpara gave free education to their own people in the South East by emulating what the great Sage Obafemi Awolowo did for his own people in the South West, majority of Igbos would have been educated and would have used the revenues from Palm oil and Cassava to build their own Palm Oil House, Eastern House and transformed Onitsha, Enugu, Aba and Owerri into mega cities to keep majority of Igbos occupied and employed in the South East without relocating to Lagos State.
Look at the states in the South East so underdeveloped with erosions everywhere. And thousands of Igbo youths who dropped out of school selling "Okrika Wake Up" second hand clothes in Yaba, Oyingbo and Oshodi.
The most annoying thing is the majority of the poor Igbos in Lagos breed like rabbits without family planning! That is why Lagos is now overpopulated and mostly congested by Igbos who now claim to have 45% percent of the population of Lagos State.
Kilode!
12 people in only one small room in Shomolu, Ajegunle, Anukoko, Ojo, Oshodi, Ikotun, Alimosho, Surulere and Okota!
Just Negodu!
Odiegbu!
