AFCON Bid: CAF Team In Nigeria, Inspect Stadia

A seven-man delegation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are currently in Nigeria to inspect various stadia as part of the process in the bid to cohost the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Benin Republic.

The team started their visitation with the inspection of the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday.

Later on, they moved to Benin on Tuesday, where they inspected the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

The CAF team arrived the 15,000 capacity stadium in the morning hours and were led on the facility tour by Mrs. Sabina Chikere, the permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission.

Sabina Chikere who is also the General Coordinator of Bendel Insurance FC presented a souvenir with inscription: “Edo at a Glance” to the visiting team.

The Edo Sports Commission Permanent Secretary who described the CAF inspection visit as a welcome development said she was happy to be a part of the progress made by Governor Godwin Obaseki in sports infrastructure development which has attracted international competitions to Edo state.

Nigeria and Benin had submitted bid to cohost 2027 AFCON few months ago.

A day after inspecting Uyo, the CAF Inspection team has now concluded their inspection of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, one of the cities being proposed to stage the tournament should the bid becomes a success.

On Monday, a CAF Inspection visited the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo; to assess one of the proposed venues for the joint bid of Nigeria and Benin Republic to host the 2027 AFCON.

Port Harcourt, Benin City, and Abuja have also been suggested as potential host cities.

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has said that the state is prepared to serve as one of Nigeria's host cities for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.

Speaking when he played host to the Confederation of African Football, CAF bidding inspection committee at Government House, Asaba on Tuesday, Governor Oborevwori said the state was peaceful and conducive to host the continental football tournament.

The Governor said that the state was renowned for hosting such sports events, assuring of top-notch security and facilities for the event, if selected.

How can a nation move forward if the people that are ready to contribute to the nation are not employed bcox they don't have bribe to give govt officials but only the lazy spoilt brats get the position and he will end up reaching the top to be selling job spaces..

I have lost faith in Nigeria govt jobs since I don't have money to give.....

Let's host AFCON, the "Darkness" version. Cos IMO, Nigeria was better the last time we cohosted with Ghana 23 years ago than now
