Chinedu Ekeke, the deputy chief of staff to the governor of Abia, has revealed why the state government opted for Toyota Hilux vans instead of Innoson trucks.

Governor Alex Otti has been heavily criticised for buying the Hilux vans for joint security operatives in the state.

Ekeke, however, noted that the decision was made due to the situation’s urgency.

He wrote:

”We have read the comments on social media about the Toyota Hilux vans the Abia state government bought for a special security operation named: Operation Crush.

”We appreciate the feedback, especially as most commenters are coming from a place of love for the country and support for the Alex Otti administration.

”The administration appreciates, more than anyone else, the need to patronise locally made goods.

”And this was why we had, upon assuming office, ordered more than 50 units of cars from the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company. We currently have 20 unmet orders.

”As we talk, some commissioners do not even have official vehicles. The governor’s official car is yet to be delivered. He still uses his private cars as a sitting governor.

”The military service commanders in Abia needed trucks for immediate take-off of the special operation, and, unfortunately, Innoson had no such vehicles in stock. The government could not delay the operation as it places premium on the lives and property of all Abians.”

He stated that the government was constrained by time and had to go for what was readily available.

“This does not foreclose any prospect of future transactions with Innoson or any other local brand,” he added.

He also noted that the state government is always open to honest feedback.

”We will always listen and respond. And even if we disagree with your perspective, we will still respond,” he said.

Dangote and BUA had dispute over importation licence after the case of Innoson. Neither Dangote nor BUA was arrested. Why didn't EFCC treat them the way Innoson was treated? If it was not a tribal card, why wasn't the accusation against Innoson true? Maybe you are even too stupid to read the news published on Nigerian newspapers. Seems many in the SE play eye service when it comes to Innoson, some are overnight lovers of Inosson while some just use Inosson to play their tribal and blackmail games because they say they love Inosson and want the rest of the country and even states and the FG buy only Inosson when in fact many of them really don't care and you hardly see them buying or driving Innoson cars.

On the other hand, the FG under Buhari not only bought Inosson vehicles, Buhari mandated by law that government agencies must buy Inoson products and the Nigerian military remains the number one supporter and customer of Innoson.

We are yet to see similar serious or buy Inosson-only laws and mandates in the SE, some of their governors buy Toyota and other brands instead of Innoson.

Governor Fintiri in the North bought 100 Innoson vehicles, while some SE governors look the other way.

Now, some in the SE are enraged because one of their governors bought Toyota instead of Innoson.

The lack of seriousness in the SE doesn't jell with their stance against the rest of Nigeria that they are marginalized and neglected by the FG when in fact the FG is their number one supporter and customer.

Every State will not patronize Innoson every year. This is because the brand is not yet reliable. Even this poster will choose Toyota over Innoson if he can afford the Toyota. Any foreign used model of Toyota is more durable than any brand new Innoson vehicle. Check Innoson pickups or buses that have been used for more than 5 years.

Igbo is not like Hausa and Yoruba that choose their worst over the best from another tribe. Igbo appreciate their own when it is good. Igbo do not hype their own when it is bad. There are many plastic industries in Nigeria but Igbo people prefer Innoson plastic products. Innoson made good motorcycles and Igbo bought them without hesitation. As Rochas and Orji Kalu could not get presidential ticket and could not become the senate president, do you see Igbo complaining? Igbo fight for quality, not for mediocrity. Igbo people love Innoson and protect him when the federal government plays some tribal cards against him. They lined up to close their accounts in the bank that had issues with Innoson. Stop trying to create a problem where there is none.
