Fuel as an excuse is not cogent.
If there is no price control, the story will remain the same. Price control is government’s responsibility, afterall they caused the problem.

The demand is still higher than supply, when local rice production is really very surplus and there are many competitors there is no way the price won't come down.

I don't understand you. Rice used to be one of the most common food among poor Nigerians. Now, a great number of Nigerians can't afford to buy rice. I believe that the topic is important.

Why is the topic important? Rice is but just an option in the plethora of foods available to every Nigerian. The economic downturn has had a toll on all commodities in markets nationwide, so why is rice suddenly a prime concern that it has to deserve a nairaland thread committed to it pricing template?

Welcome to Nigeria. The reason for the increase for FOREIGN rice is as a result of the increase in $/naira, but I am wondering why local rice is expensive despite the fact that it is produced locally.

It is only in Nigeria that locally sourced food stuff is affected by dollar no matter how cheaply produced. Only in Nigeria.
