Manchester City have won the 2023 UEFA Super Cup, defeating Sevilla 5-4 on penalties after the sides had fought out a 1-1 draw in Piraeus, Athens. A second half strike from Cole Palmer cancelled out Youssef En-Nesryiโs first half opener for the Spaniards to set up the spot kick shoot-out. And, after five successful penalties for City, a miss by Sevilla's Nemanja Gudelj secured the prestigious prize for Pep Guardiolaโs side after a clash played out at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, home of Greek side Olympiakos. It was our first appearance in the tournament, which pits the winners of the UEFA Champions League against the reigning Europa League champions. And, following on from last seasonโs historic Treble success of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup, it further adds to what has been a glorious period of success under Guardiola in a era unparalleled in the Clubโs proud 129-year history. The Catalan has now overseen 15 major trophies since taking charge at the Club in the summer of 2016. The remarkable collection comprises five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, one Champions League, two Community Shields and now the UEFA Super Cup. City also have the opportunity to further add to our haul of silverware before 2023 is out. In December we will be travelling to Saudi Arabia to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time.
