THREAD: BRICS SUMMIT IN AFRICA STARTS TUESDAY, 24 AUGUST IN JOHANNESBURG (PICS) by TMKsouth(op): 10:06pm On Aug 17, 2023*

This year’s BRICS summit in Johannesburg is expected to be one of the largest with 70 invitations already sent out to world leaders in the global south.

However, the Western countries such as the US, the UK and France have not been invited. Despite his request for an invitation, French President Emmanuel Macron has not received one.

The BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China formed an economic alliance in 2009, later to be joined by South Africa. These 5 countries former what were some of the most influential developing countries to counter formations such as the G7, G20 and NATO.

This year these 5 countries are meeting again (they meet every year) but with a bigger focus - more countries (including Nigeria and Saudia Arabia) want to join this ever growing and influential group.

Lets discuss BRICS over the coming days. The summit begins on Tuesday and ends on Thursday.

It’s special because it’s going to offer alternative to the overvalued fiat currency called US dollar. Besides, the world needs competition against the western dominated financial world. I hope Nigeria will be finalizing its membership this year.

BRICS will have zero effect on US dollar outside its natural trajectory.
Are you saying Nigeria/Africa will stop seeking western loan?

Nigeria being member of BRICS won't have any effect on the country's economy.

The whole world stands with BRICS.

Durban - The expansion of BRICS to include countries that want to join the grouping could see it expand to include more than 50 countries, Professor Anil Sooklal, Ambassador-at-Large for Asia and BRICS and South Africa's BRICS Sherpa said on Tuesday.

Sooklal said many countries, including Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Argentina, are coalescing around BRICS and wanting to become members.
