izzou:Well, for better context of this issue for me. 2017 was when I started earning for the first time in my life (salary wise) and my parents kinda gave me a very soft landing. And I became a gambler who liked betting. And I was actually winning! And I think it was nihilist funny enough had always advised me to always use low odds. And I did, I was a fairly high staker, 10k, 15k 20k with low odds like 5-10. And I will mostly post them here. I think my posts were what ignited the debates about gambling on the thread at that time. Here are some of them then. You can see the amounts staked and then the balance in my bet accounts then. https://www.nairaland.com/3585296/football-other-sports-betting-season/20#53027813 donjazet: donjazet:https://www.nairaland.com/3585296/football-other-sports-betting-season/1035#55573421 donjazet:Now, when you see these , you take note that I was wildly inexperienced with money, in terms of how to spend it judiciously, so in my eyes gambling was very lucrative, partly because I was winning and partly because I wasn't really feeling the effects of losing that initial money because again, (parents soft landing) renting house for me then and giving me their other car). But Dayo consistently did advice me whenever I post those "winnings", that I really should try and stop. Others would hyping me and praising the winnings, while he would advice caution! Caution! Whatever you think you are making now, you would lose it later. Take your winnings now and leave. And it wasn't until 2 years later when I found myself knee-deep in debt and gross financial ineptitude because of gambling that I realised what he had been telling me consistently. Now I went from this post here made in 2017 donjazet:And this; donjazet:To this; 3 years later. ![]() donjazet: donjazet:They say experience is the best teacher but dayo did actually help.

A40:It used to be. But where else is better and safer for underhanded financial dealings if not Nigeria? Opay registered its parent/holding company in Nigeria just 3 months ago as OPAY HOLDINGS. 2 years ago it raised $400 million from (mostly) U.S. VCs at a $2 billion valuation even though its financial records weren't really subjected to public scrunity before that. Piece of cake. Register as a U.S. company, get millions of dollars in funding, then do business as a holding company registered in places with lax regulations. Welcome to Sub-Saharan African fintech ecosystem. Exploiting loopholes.

For me, the reason i quit gambling was very simple—in gambling you’re losing regardless of if you’re winning money or not. How? Well, the time investment is the most expensive part of gambling. The time you devote to thinking about potential matches to bet on. The time you spend analyzing teams and making predictions. The time you spend watching games you have no business watching just because you bet on it. The time you spend coming down from the high of celebrating a win or to overcome depression from a loss. Gambling is the biggest time thief. I figured out that if i used just 30 mins improving my coding skills everyday out of the time i was wasting gambling, i would make compounding gains and that was what i did. My only regret is a nigga i knew who refused to stop and is currently 30+ with no plans of moving out of his uncle’s house while his juniors have started families and achieved success elsewhere |

donjazzet:My experience is extremely similar to yours except that mine lasted about 6-8 months. The deal breaker for me was that I could barely concentrate on anything. Even in church, I'm refreshing livescores. I had nothing else to think of. Just forecast and play bet. I knew I couldn't continue living my life like that. And it wasn't like I was always winning. It was a consistent cycle of wins and losses. Na so I say bye bye to betting. Never again |

DeadPresidents:Very solid points made. I remember sleeping very late in the night then, researching teams to bet on. There is no League I didn't know then, every top team in Europe, south America and Africa. Especially Egyptian League, south African league, Ghana and nigeria. I knew the highest scoring leagues and the lowest scoring leagues. Switzerland had tge highest scoring league, seconded by German second division, the lowest scoring was nigerian league, always under 2.5 and most likely for a draw. I used to research managers that never make early sub because the odds for the first substitution in a match to take place at half time was 1.7 odds which was quite big. So I was always favoring Burnleys Sean dyche and west hams slaven bilich. Coaches that usually leave subs very late. Almost never using their 3 subs all in a match highest 2. Southampton too under pochetino, manu's Mourinho too. You're very correct. I will be awake by 4 am in the morning because of matches in Brazilian league. Firmenese, copa this copa that. good old days. Then when I get to work, na when sleep go dey show me shege. Gambling is indeed bad. |

DeadPresidents:This thing especially for people that play that demonic virtual. Baby soccer, Artisans and all blue collar workers. That time you will waste chasing losses. Using money for jobs and cooperative to play and digging financial holes everyday I always say. Don't rely on betting for income. It's very unlikely you spend that much time gambling when you have other financial sources. That time is the real problem. When you are not making money from elsewhere you will surely spend more time gambling |

donjazzet:My first and only experience with sport betting was in September 2015 three month to my Wedding, a friend sent me a betnaija booking number and insisted i play it immediately. It was the first game of the season in Spain and Italy, so i sent someone to go play it at a nearby betnaija shop in two places for ₦500 each. One of the ticket came with ₦370k winning and the second ticket was ₦234k as a game had already started. I begin refresh livescore to check result, every game i checked was a win except Atletico Madrid vs one small team that started late. I went to bed with joy in my heart believing Atletico will tear that team to shreds, only to wake up to see a nil nil scoreline. 13 teams already won, but only Atletico Madrid bust ticket. Looking back i dey thank God say i didn't win those tickets, cos i probably would have become an addict now. |

DeadPresidents:This was always the most annoying part of betting for me. Those days I took football betting seriously, I used to spend entire weekends combing through leagues, multiple browsers open, all in a bid to get the perfect set of tickets, only for one or two games to mess it up. And I couldn't pick games on the fly like a lot of persons did, cause in my mind that was basically me setting money on fire. Also it helped that I hate wasting money....can't be a good gambler if you're not comfortable with feeling like you're wasting money. |

Olowunl01:Maybe because I no grow up with househelp or sister sha cos I don't see any big deal in doing domestic stuff. If I no clean my house shey na Addo, Biden or Tinubu go come clean am? A lot of niggas don't know when to drop their shoulder and get down and dirty, sometimes you just have to stoop to conquer. Changing diapers for your own child and doing your own laundry should not be some horror movie for you. It's why I don't even buy into all this traditional talk nonsense cos no woman today is traditional. When you enter settings where the woman can also make her money forget it. So for me I'm not a beast of burden we will both contribute to money and whatever house chores I no send, the idea that you will sit pretty and do nothing in big 2023. E better make I be Reverend Father. That one will not fly. The hack is you need money to survive as a man anyway so understand this but stop dealing with non contributor women. If I see Soft life, My money my money, his money our money. Piun. Speedy Gonzales. Certain lingo you should know this woman is a bad market You just gats apply p!mp principles. Be with a woman that is comfortable and understands she has to contribute, that's the problem a lot of my married mates faced settling down. No savings cos their wives don't contribute nothing and your boys sometimes have to come to borrow money from you. And you're just there like omo if this is your marriage I'm Gucci fam |

Theflint1:You would bet like this when you're desperately in need of money. When I used to bet regularly the amount of money I had was inversely proportional to the time spent combing and 'forecasting' The only time you will really spend a lot of time and be under pressure is when you don't have and are idle. When you're busy you won't have time. Sometimes you even check the next day cos you're occupied |

donjazzet:This might come a little bit off , but it’s just an observation sha. I think one major challenge u have is u don’t listen to people most especially if their views don’t align with ur own personal views/heart desires . You rely too heavily on ur intelligence/brilliance and personal conviction. I do not know u personally but I’ve seen u do it over and over again on this forum. I may be wrong tho. That being said , I remember a colleague of mine who was an ajebutter right from day one; he attended a private Uni and was protected from all of these street stuff. The guy got gifted a brand new car while waiting for NYSC , his parents got him a house in Gbagada and when he started working he started soft like u described about urself up there. One time at work he told me about a bet slip he saw online when one guy used 500 to Win almost 2 million. He said he wished somebody can teach him sports betting so he can make a kill out of it with his deep pockets . I sat him down and told him it’s a road he never wants to go down. I let him know I’m very good at predicting matches and I had a good success rate while I was in Uni and my winnings helped not only me but my roommates to sort some of our bills in finals. However I stopped immediately I went for NYSC in the north and there was no betting shop in the north due to sharia law forbidding gambling . NB: that was a time Nigerian bookies had not started the whole online betting , most of the bets were done in bet shops . I got a job after NYSC and vowed to never go back cos I’ve seen how betting can make a man with a good job go bankrupt. Unlike you who didn’t listen to Raumdeuter, that my colleague in question listened to my advice and he was better for it . He never played around the idea of sports betting until one day he told me one of his guys who he wanted to meet to teach him before our discussion had to sell his car to clear the debt he ran into through betting . I’m sure if my guy had not listened his own would’ve been worst. All the same, it’s good u shared ur story so others can learn. PS: It’s always best to learn from the experience of others than ur own experience . Lessons learnt from other people’s experience can be sweet, while lessons learnt from ur own experience can be really really bitter . |

To those quoting me saying you did not read my posts, that post was targeted at a couple of deep thinkers here. I intentionally made the post long to save my time because I know mentally lazy people, which are many here, don't like reading lengthy posts with a lot of technical terms. My previous post is for specialists. I'm sure most people just came across paleomimesis, anthropomimesis, physiomimetics for the first yesterday here. That's science at PhD and post-doctorate level. So, if you say you didn't read my post, I didn't expect you to in the first place. And if you insult me, you'd get a similar a response from me. |

A40:Anybody playing that virtual nonsense with the hope of making any money is nothing but a foool. That virtual is u betting against AI , the AI does multiple permutations simultaneously and there’s no level of intelligence u can claim to have it will always get the better of u in the long run. How u say u want to bet against a software that keeps updating itself? Some will even sit down and study the patterns of the wins, losses and draws for hours with the hope that they have mastered it only to lose their hard earned money at first trial. |

GrammarNazi1: DeadPresidents:These are the only responses worth addressing. My posts here promote philosophy, science, critical thinking, and African cultures and history. And I mostly reference Otem because he and his folks share these interests as well. One of the main things these people are after is for Africa to develop and join other continents in making the world a better place, and unless most Africans go back to their roots and start promoting and hyping the native cultures and traditions, one of which is Isese for Yorubas, the continent can never develop. Why is that so? One key reason is the issue of transfer of knowledge across generations. DeadPresidents, you're in Germany now and see all the advancements and state-of-the-art facilities there. The development in these countries is due to the combined effects of some factors, key among which is, the Germans have historically been able to transfer knowledge and achievements of their forebears across generations till the present one and have successively built and developed these achievements further, which allowed them to establish an advanced country that every Africa admires and desires today. The same thing applies to the UK, France, Saudi, China, and many other countries making giant strides around the world. Why Africa is stagnant is due to the inability of Africans to transfer the knowledge and achievements of the past across successive generations and build on them to develop a functional society. Our ancestors and forefathers recorded great, great achievements and feats in the past, but mostly, their works and knowledge weren't developed further and built on by their descendants due to the problems of slavery and colonialization aided by Christianity and Islam. These problems cut off Africans from their roots, prevented the transfer of knowledge to take place across generations on the continent, which is key for any region to grow and move forward, and the continent became like a tree without roots. Today, Africans are generally still cut off from their roots. Ancient Egypt, established by Tem and Ra, is the origin of civilization and was built by black Africans. What Tem and his people, who are the founders of the continent, had in mind for gifting Otem with that history book is for Africa to learn their history and what their ancestors achieved in the past eras so that this knowledge can be developed further, allowing transfer of knowledge across generations to occur on the continent. No people develop when they can't build on the knowledge and achievements of the past people and when they're cut off from their roots. Christianity and Islam both seek to eliminate African cultures and traditions and take their place in the minds of Africans. These two religions are toxic to Africans because they cut off Africans from their roots, and any people not connected to their roots can never develop because of the issue of transfer of knowledge. They'll be the slaves of this world. That's a glaring fact. When parts of Africa were great in the past, that was when people were connected to their roots, the pagan gods. For Africa to rise and be great again, Africans need to go back to their roots, replace religion with the use of philosophy, science, and critical thinking. At a very small age, Africans need to be teaching their kids philosophy, programming, science, and mathematics, hard math if possible. Not sending the kids to ilekewu (quranic school) and Bible school where they're taught toxic and harmful knowledge that seeks to destroy their culture and heritage. Otem's book has over 1300 pages, and that's the crux of the whole book. You can't say you love Africa and be condemning such a great message. |

Look at what is happening to Mendy at Lorient. This is the same reason clubs will be reluctant to sign Greenwood. Clubs will like to protect their public image. Feel sorry for those guys mehn, their negative actions is costing them their careers and freedom. Dani Alves comes to mind. Up till now he is still in jail. |

President Xi Jiping @BRICS..... Some country, obsessed with maintaining it hegemony, has gone out of its way to cripple the emerging markets & developing countries. Whoever is developing fast becomes its targetr of containment; whoever is catching up becomes its target of obstruction. But this is futile, as I have said more than once that blowing out other's lamp will not bring light to oneself. |
