ObaIgwe1:With the way we played and dominated last season, I was so so sure about this season especially after the signings well had. It was a massive improvement, depth and upgrade on what we had last season plus the experience we had entering into this season. Coupled with how most teams aren't that strong, I felt we'll be one of the main challengers alongside Man city and if harnessed right, we can surpass them this season cos man for man, we have the qualities over them. How he just scattered everything this season is what is biting me. I don dey shout this thing since first match. I wonder how a stronger team looks so weaker when nothing was left. Arteta dey weak me this season abeg!! |

We saw how Viera, alongside Nketiah and Zinny came in to change the game. Talking about Viera, we saw how he shone through with quality today. His off the ball run was what resulted to the penalty we won. We no need stats or coach's eye or go analytical school to know what he brought in today. We saw that quality assist he gave to Nketiah and his overall play making arsenal play better. We no need go coaching school to understand what he brought in today's game. But if na Havertz, we go dey need spiritual eyes to understand wetin him dey bring. Omorr, this season no suppose long but Arteta just wan scatter everything ![]() |

Fkhalifa:What Rice is giving us this past two matches is very very comparable to Xhaka. It was as if I was seeing Xhaka all over again. The only difference is that this "Xhaka" doesn't have Partey by his side but Havertz |

Arteta doesn't look set to really be serious about replacing Xhaka. The Xhaka i know would have started firing shots from outside when we are yet to get goals. 1st game i complained that this Kai will confuse Nelli. Only for him to kon add Trossard again.😂😂😂😂 He should forget this Labcoat and face front abeg. Now going forward, everyone knows they will score a goal at least. Clean sheets in the mud. Imagine 2 goals against a red carded team. That's a big big fall off. This better be factory reset. Infact he better not try this nonsense vs UCL teams. Mtchew😑😑😑😑 |

I believe emotions are currently high na why everybody dey shalaye up and down. Even me sef, na vex I take switch off my phone after that match. Now the reason why I asked that question was because the players shares the larger blame if not all. Someone here said Trossard was not in the game. Arteta made a sub and brought in Nketiah. When he brought in Vieira, majority here were displeased but the guy created two goals for us. Ode and Saka were messing up our attacking moves. The former was even attempting wayward shots throughout the game when a simple pass would have been a better decision. Saka gave them an early assist but the coach is to be blamed. Martinelli? Man was running like headless chicken. Partey? Man failed to play to instruction throughout the first half. Havertz? That one need spiritual cleansing He brought in Jorginho to try and control the match at least see off the match but Zinny had other plans. So I will ask again, what did we expect Arteta to do again? |

The only Arteta's fault I can pinpoint in today's game is leaving Gabriel on the bench. He put a good team on the pitch but the players didn't turn up as expected. To be candid, he is getting all these criticisms because he played Havertz. Nothing else. |

Jodera:When I see Vieira coming in, e remain small make I throw away my phone. However, the guy really surprised me. Na that overhead kick shock me most. I was like, did Arteta exchange Tbag for the Vieira during off-season? That said, I've refrained myself from going deeper concerning Havertz because I don't want it to be as if I'm making excuse for him. The guy vex me today...there was this pass he received between the line..all he had to do was turn and give final pass but may guy passed back to Rice who was already marked by two players. However, I wouldn't make early conclusion on him. |

Today match result was was disappointing to say the least. First, we’ve not been winning convincingly(last two wins), we’ve not been playing football we played last season, no full fluidity in our attacks, the goals aren’t coming( out of the five goals we scored, two are penalties) like it should be. Secondly, Martinelli shouldn’t have started cause he hasn’t got his mojo since towards the end of last season; can’t take on a defender, incomplete dribbles, Trossaard should have started the match on his wing, Nketiah should’ve played the CF role. Thirdly, the backline isn’t solid, playing Partey as a RB is bad cause considering his injury records, Kiwior as a lb is also bad esp when you have the player playing that position on bench. What’s the situation with Gabu cause White is better deployed to that RB, making stupid experiments at the backline is very distatrous. Who noticed When Harvertz was removed, the players started playing well? The dude is not Arsenal standard but will Arteta ever listen? I hope he’ll learn his lesson and realize Havertz can end him. Viera really surprised Me today, he’s the architect of the two goals we scored. I hope he doesn’t try that rubbish lineup with Harvertz included in our match against the scummies. |

Jodera:Vieira shocked everybody. The reason why I'm reluctant to join the blame-Havertz squad is because of time. Vieira is an example as seen today. I've said it that his reputation at Chelsea plays a big role in the lashing he is receiving now. Make we dey look. Bro...I will really appreciate if you tag me on the post. Arteta definitely has his shortcomings but today, the players let us down. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by ObaIgwe1: 8:05pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
mostob:Actually Arteta made too many changes to our team structure last season that is affecting us. There is no problem making one or two tactical changes sometimes depending on the opponent style of play. But Arteta has stuck to this his new formation that is not helping us since the start of the season and it doesn't look like an experiment, or a tactics against a particular team any longer, but this has become his new style of play. And I am not feeling it. If you want to invert from either LB or RB using Zinny, Kiwor, Chamber, White or Tomi...fine by me. But leave our core CB alone if they are not injured. As it is, only Saliba is playing as CB because Partey is not there at RB so White has to cover his back. Now in the midfield, I have no problem with him wanting to play 2 No8, IMO, we don't need Havertz to achieve that (still waiting to be convinced), we have ESR and Viera that can play the role with Odegard. Only our forward personnel are left unchanged, even then he still want to force Havertz there sometimes. It's okay to gamble playing Trossard as CF, and when it didn't click he brought in Nketiah..that is fine. But don't start a stupid lineup or keep playing players out of their comfortable position or keep the best on the bench for whatever reason. We have our key players known for their best position and a good bench, if any player is having a bad day on the field, we have good replacement for him, but I don't understand the need of changing an already winning structure, not just for a match, but for 3 matches going on now....honestly it is looking more like a agenda to accommodate and justify the buy of Havertz at all cost.... I have no problem with him getting Havertz but don't change a winning structure just cos of him or looking for who to bench to accommodate him. It will not be funny for Arteta when the players themselves start believing this agenda. |

This is what I was expecting as our core lineup with little twitch here and there depending on the opponent or injury... But I don't understand what we are playing again. Martinelli/Trossard.......Jesus/Nketia......Saka/Nelson . .....................Odegaard/ESR/Viera ........Rice/Havertz...............Partey/Jorg Zinny/Timbers........... Gabriel/Kiwor.......... Saliba/White ..........White/Tomi ..................... Ramsdale/Raya Playing Rice and Havertz in advanced position and removing one of the CBs and expecting Partey to cover RB and still play as DM is weakening our back, especially when any of the LB or RB also invert. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by mostob(m): 8:40pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
ObaIgwe1:Thank you. I think where there is misunderstanding is that we are not really conversant with the whole inverting stuffs. When we have the ball, our formation changes to 3-5-2 with one FB inverting. Zinny did it last season. However, when Zinny inverts, the other must be capable of playing as the RCB. White played the role perfectly last season too. Also, he comfortably overlaps when situation demands. This season, Arteta want to improvise and try the right side which is why Partey is playing as RB. We don't have a RB similar to Zinny. Timber was brought in for this but unfortunately he got injured. TBH, he was not that impressive in the role in preseason. Now, if Partey inverts from the right, the LB must be someone who is comfortable as a LB as well as a LCB. Timber, Tomiyasu and Kiwior are perfect for this role. Gabriel can't overlap which is why he is getting benched. Timber is injured and Tomi is suspended...this is why Kiwior started today's match. I really hope some of us understand this and stop having the insinuation that Arteta is tweaking the team to accommodate Havertz. I think he is just trying to be flexible and be unpredictable that's why he is shifting to the right. |

| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by ObaIgwe1: 9:04pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
mostob:There is no problem with either of our LB or RB inverting, Zinny did it well last season. But here is the problem, when Havertz join Odeggard as AM, Partey who is suppose to play RB has to join Rice most times as DM leaving us with 3 at the back....in the event of Zinny or even Partey overlapping, our back will become weaker and we will concede more goals. My point is that we should stick to what works with either of RB or LB inverting rather than having 2 AMs in other to keep Havertz on the field. I prefer Gabriel in the back with whoever playing LB or RB able to invert at any time while Partey joins Rice. We are stronger that way. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 9:05pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
mostob:Nobody says he shouldn't do RB invert if he wants to do, but he shouldn't be weakening two areas of the team (and more areas) when doing that. Playing Inverted is a skill on its own. The FB knows when to invert and when to overlap. He should also be good driving forward and knowing when to drop back. It's not just about Entering Midfield. Ask yourself, how many times did you see Partey driving forward in the past 3 games? How many times do you see him overlapping and making quick exchange with Saka? Did you see the Big difference when Zinny came on and played that inverted role? The big issue is that Partey can't play that Inverted role effectively and also the midfield is missing his utmost presence(two areas suffering). That's what have been affecting us these past 3 games. I will also talk about the spiral effects on how it affects the team compared to last season |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by mostob(m): 9:24pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
Jodera:I agree ...He is not as good as Zinny. One thing I also noticed is that he sometimes drop to RCB allowing White to do the overlapping. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by mostob(m): 9:29pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
ObaIgwe1:3 at the back has always been the formation though. The RB is still where the issue lies. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Lush100(m): 9:37pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
mostob:No it was only when zinny came today that white did overlap because partey moved to midfield. White did not overlap prior to that.(in all our games) He has to remove Harvetz b4 he could go that. The only thing harvetz bring is the CB of the opponents do not know whether to mark him or not. I will suggest he uses D. Rice rather than Partey . Declan is still good defensively and can cover ground. Partey can't do thateffectively |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 9:42pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
So many things wrong Defence Gabriel and Saliba was very very strong last season which helped us nullify attack This season, Saliba and White/Kiwi isn't as strong, Fast or aerially good as Gab/Sali. In fact, Kiwi is so so inferior. Partey is not good at Inverted role and is limiting him. That's 3 places weak because of wrong/inferior personnel. Midfield Xhaka and Partey was a good combo. Both guys give solidity and creativity Rice and Havertz are weak combo. Havertz is weak in everything solidity and creativity. We might dominate and dominate because of the quality of the players but we'll always be on the edge once shii gets real. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 9:57pm On Aug 26, 2023 |
Mostob lemme tell you. If we'd use our normal formation, it would have been Rice and Partey in midfield. Once we went ahead, those two would have given us solidity and in Gab/Saliba, we would have held on especially when we were one man advantage. But guess what, since We went need a goal, he removed Partey (because he's a RB) to put Zinny and when we were 2-1 up, we were light in midfield defensively (Rice, Viera and Odegaard) reason why Fulham were successful in aerial ball(something that wouldn't have happened If Partey was present with rice and he didn't play the FB role). To correct that, Arteta put in Jorginho, a supposed DM who's weak defensively. To see out the win, Jorginho would have joined Partey and Rice In Midfield but the mistake of removing Partey disbalanced everything. In defence, Our CB also was still a big step down with Kiwi who's not good aerially and not confident enough like Gab and his side was exploited to good effect. I mean Kiwi and Zinny are the weak areas in our defence and that's where Fulham targeted. If only we had stuck with our Standard last season formation, Fulham wouldn't have gotten back into this game no matter what. But the earlier formation and personnel scattered everything This is why I said it's fundamental and structural. |
