Would typically just read the article and move on but seeing this particular one and how wrong and redundant it sounds given Nigeria already has many national databases, I decided to read comments to get a sense of the general sentiment towards the topic and I was rather impressed with some of the comments like the below quoted, among others. Good to see fair a number of NLers exhibit critical thinking and constructive criticism, and not quite disappointed to read the inane remarks. As per topic, national identification is a internal affair and getting foreign organizations involved is a stupid thing to do. There are also many registers already like the NIN, BVN and SIM registers that can be improved on and even possibly harmonized for a more robust database so this idea is even more ridiculous. And then, "the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, revealed that the government has secured access to approximately half a billion dollars in funding to initiate a local funding program." ..the above statement really says nothing - or what is "a local funding program" and how does it relate to the ID matter Because $500m is clearly an outrageous figure for a ID project alone.Considering Nigeria's position as the world's largest black population, it is clear this is a plan for data collection, monitoring & control and other unspoken ulterior motives being disguised as some sort of assistance or loan to fit into a wider global strategy for similar purposes. Unfortunately the current national leadership is compromised and unable to defend the interests of its citizens. YourNextLevel: Brendaniel: panpan: scarra: jayAjoku: jayAjoku: IamaNigerianGuy: |

unavailablecity:From the comments so far, you’ll deduct that they’re more interested in the active populace. The working (able bodied) class. Allisgud:I wish it could be so (if the move is for good anyway). But no, it won’t. People of Niger republic, Chad, North Sudan and others bordering the Northern Nigeria or bear Islamic names; will access it through Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Adamawa, Sokoto and Zamfara states to mention a few. 🥱 |

Please leave this NIMC alone and provide help in our healthcare and education system. This NIN offices that doesn’t have service from month to month. Especially their headquarters in Ikeja there is no time you go there and they will agree they have service always on shut down. Very unreliable and inefficient staff. |

It will not be well with whoever is thinking about suffering Nigerians again in 2024! We have done national identity card, voters cards, BVN, NIN and NIMC cards yet non is good enough to capture ones national identity in a country that is more than 50 yrs old. Now they want what Nigerians will run around again in 2024....it won't be well with our clueless leaders! |

Nigeria tried doing this twice without success because of too many unnecessary interests. 1. I remember our company with a UK partner who has done the same thing for over 50 nations submitted proposal for the ID project and they didn't even invite us for presentation. Why? (unnecessary interests just as I said earlier). 2. Afterwards NIMC was set up and incompetent people has been managing the agency, I was captured in 2015 till now I am yet to get my ID and the same with many Nigerians. 3. Foreigners from Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Benin, Togo are now in possession of our IDs how? The system has been compromised. So I am supporting world bank on this either through loan or grant to take over the project. We need to activate our economy for rapid growth and it can't be done with having a GENUINE database which we have not able to do on our own for over 20years. nke001: |

gratefulheart:If you are waiting for someone to print a plastic card for you then you will wait forever. Download the nimc app and use your registered phone number to download your digital ID. We don't need world Bank to implement digital ID. The NIN is enough to ties together all your other identities including bvn and driver license |

TOMMYS:I personally don’t believe in Nigerian made things. Nigerians do things for their own selfish interests. But letting the world bank do our job for us is a concern esp when it comes to securing our data. Well, it’s not as if Nigeria will put in the work to engineer a formidable framework if given the chance anyway. Greed and Nepotism will always render it useless and little wonder why our country is respected nowhere in the planet. |
