daveP:Koscienly at his peak cannot bench the William Saliba we watched last season o. Kos was good back then, but he certainly can’t bench this current Saliba . |

Jodera:Sure. The circumstances were against us truly. But we need such a player to be taken even much more seriously. That kind of Sanchez player. Sanchez set were still balling and he got 24+. That's the kind of atmosphere i want. Anybody can score(Alexis, Rams, Carzo), but sanchez was that guy that was way above the rest. That's the thing. Also unstoppable. Like Haaland. |

ObaIgwe1:I agree with you. But its the same reason we supposed to have that kind of player with such amount of goals. Yunno. Like MSN and BBC times. But one player was outrightly the baba of goals. That kind. We are getting there. But we need it as a plan to be formidable and feared than we currently are. |

iamoyindamola:U need to understand that Holding value has been dropping year after year . Since that last FA cup we won , he’s not had chance to prove to anybody he’s a good player . Na only nostalgia of his good days potential suitors go dey bank on. Maguire on the other hand was signed for a record fee, gets called to the England squad regularly …. Despite his numerous errors and loss of form, he will still command better asking price when juxtaposed with Holding . Make we just manage whatever we get from Holding and move on. There’s no how Edu or anybody could’ve marketed holding past his actual value . |

daveP:Then surely Koscienly can bench Gabriel . |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by mostob(m): 3:26am On Sep 02, 2023 |
daveP:Remove him in that team please. Do you think they would still be that strong? I don't care who scores, just get the goals and win matches. |

iamoyindamola:If Holding is better than Maguire why aren't they signing him? I sabi overrate players but e be like say you worst pass me sometimes. |

daveP:Having goals spread around is the dream of any manager and it is in fact a testament to him. We have Saka, Martinelli, Nketiah, Odegaard all scoring double digits last season. With a little more effort they can all reach 20goals. Just imagine that. Now add Jesus. |

Spy360:As a coach, you need a b CB backup but only two options were made available for you, Maguire and Holding. Who will you pick? |

Looks like we are stuck with this 28 men squad with one seriously injured And we can not afford any more injury at the back.

mostob:Maguire is better than Holding at both ends of the pitch. Maguire's errors are mainly when playing for Man United. In a different set up he may be very good. When you look at Zouma for example, playing for West Ham, he will look like prime Maldini but that's until he wears an Arsenal shirt. Don't get me wrong, Holding is a good defender but just lack Maguire he lacks pace which is the most important ability for a defender that wants to play for a big club. But apart from that he lacks game reading and ability to man mark. In a lower club that will play most games defending a low block, he will be useful. |

ObaIgwe1:A thinner but talented and effective squad is always preferable for me. I prefer to have 22 very good players than 40 players with 30 average. By the way, why do people think Timber is a LB and not RB? |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 12:05pm On Sep 02, 2023 |
iamoyindamola:White's issue with Southgate is a personal one. It has nothing to do with Maguire or his ability. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by ObaIgwe1: 12:19pm On Sep 02, 2023 |
Spy360:Well thanks to Arteta's experimentation. Everybody is confused of players natural positions now. I expected him to compete with White at RB but Arteta plays him more at LB... Ditto Tomi. Now we don't know if Partey is DM or RB specialist anymore..... Las las everyone will find their level... Either we retain the experimentation if they are succeeding or get reset back to default with one or 2 unnecessary loses. Time will tell. |

• | Arsenal transfer roundup. Holding leaves permanently Rob Holding's seven-year association with Arsenal is over after the veteran defender joined Crystal Palace on a permanent basis. The commanding centre-half joined the Gunners from Bolton Wanderers for £2million back in the summer of 2016, winning two FA Cups with the north London club. But he was unlikely to get much game time for Arsenal, with the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Ben White and Jakub Kiwior all above him in Mikel Arteta's pecking order. So, he opted to join Palace, with sporting director Edu negotiating a fee worth £4million, football.london understands. Tavares joins Forest Nuno Tavares joined Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day on an initial loan deal with a £12million option to buy. The Portugal Under-21 international arrived at the Emirates Stadium in 2021 and had a mixed first season in north London, playing 28 matches and scoring one goal. After the arrival of Alex Zinchenko though, the former Benfica man was sent out on loan to Marseille, and despite a decent campaign in Ligue 1 he was no longer viewed as part of Mikel Arteta's plans. Lokonga to Luton Another player who has left Arsenal on loan is midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga, who joined Luton Town yesterday. Lokonga spent the second half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace and he has now joined newly-promoted Premier League side Luton on loan, with no option to buy. The Gunners will receive around £500,000 for the loan, football.london understands. Meanwhile, Nicolas Pepe remains at the club beyond deadline day with the club considering a termination of a contract, unless a late move to Saudi Arabia, where the transfer window still remains open, materialises. We Are The Gunners |

Spy360:It was a simple question, you made your choice. Since you made excuse for Maguire, let me make excuse for Holding too. The only defect in Holding is his lack of technicality. He doesn't have the ability to play out from the back. That's why he fell off from the squad. But in a huff and puff system, Holding na better defender. Maguire that can't even make an ordinary pass FFS. |

ObaIgwe1:The beauty of this squad is their versatility. Aside Nketiah and the GKs, all can play different positions. Let's hope Timber comes back asap because that back 4 eh... |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 12:38pm On Sep 02, 2023 |
ObaIgwe1:Timber only covered up at LB due to Zinny's injury and whatever issues he had with Tierney and Tavares. Well, that is why I am mad about not signing a LB. Again, fans must understand that we play a back three not back four. One of the fullbacks is actually a midfielder. Last season it was Zinchenko, this season we are seeing Partey. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 12:38pm On Sep 02, 2023 |
mostob:Nketiah can also play LW. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 12:46pm On Sep 02, 2023 |
mostob:I didn't really make any choice. I simply went for the majority opinion. Both Holding and Maguire are similar in terms of their areas of strength and weaknesses. But when you place them side by side, Maguire has always come out tops. This is Man United former captain and vice captain of England (not my choice). His problem is meeting fans expectations in a set up that does not favour him. He simply doesn't have pace (you added not technical). But in a low block he will do well just as Holding. But general opinion have already favoured Maguire. Holding is no where near the NT now. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by ObaIgwe1: 1:18pm On Sep 02, 2023 |
Spy360:Exactly why Timber is now seen as the main backup on LB... While everyone also know he can also be a backup on RB. You see, it doesn't matter to me whatever style or tactics Arteta wants to play or who he wants to play... Whether na 3 at the back or 4 with one inverting... Na hin problem. I watched him defending the changes yesterday and he said he enjoys making those changes... Let him continue to enjoy it, but he should also make sure we the fans are enjoying the results. That is all that matter to me. If we don't get the results that we deserve with these talents that we have... Arteta only has himself and "enjoyment" to blame. |

The good thing about Partey’s injury is we will not be watching him play that makeshift RB position again. On the other end , let’s just pray Havertz tries to show a glimpse of brilliance today o. |
