U.S stealth bombers fly towards, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novgorod. Missiles streak out of their cement structures and begin the turn towards Vladivostok and major industrial centers in Russia. Seconds later, millions are dead and nuclear bombs go off all over Russia, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novgorod are completely destroyed. The Russian Dead Hand system takes effect and 7,300 nuclear missiles begin their rise from their tombs. China, fearing a nuclear strike as well, launches their nuclear weapons as U.S bases in the pacific and the west coast. No country is spared in the pacific Europe. Paris, London, Berlin, Seoul, Moscow, Washington D.C, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Tokyo, Warsaw, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Rome, Cairo, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Mexico City, Miami, Orlando and thousands other are destroyed. In a few hours, 4.5 billion people have been killed with hundreds of millions more wounded. Millions are fires erupt all over the globe, countries go into chaos and infrastructure are destroyed

Fallout

Thousands of tons of debris and ash rise into the atmosphere. The sun is blocked out completely. Once great cities are now nothing more than rubble and ash. Government’s around the world struggle to control the chaos and try and figure what to do next. The Earth goes into a temporary darkness and a man made mini Ice Age will begin. With the sun blocked out, the earth begins to drop in temperature. Food production around the world ceases to exist. Millions more will starve to death or die by either fire or ice. After the detonations, radioactive fallout would spread around the entire globe. It would mix with the clouds, rivers, streams, lakes and oceans. It would turn much of the world into a radioactive wasteland. Small Islands in the pacific would fare better than most of the world. Switzerland would actually be a very safe place, most of the country is surrounded by mountains that serves as a sort of barrier. People in major urban areas would either be dead or eventually be dead.

Aftermath ( 2 years)

The debris in the atmosphere finally begins to settle and the sun finally makes her appearance on the a devastated earth. Cities are barren, void of life. Rivers are polluted and filled with the dead. Oceans are filled with trash and rogue ships. The earth is much colder than before. There are no seasons, only winter. Snow covers the earth, cold is the new norm. The Amazon Rainforest has died away major forests have turned to dead wood stumps. Highways are empty, markets are no longer serving food and parks are void of playing children. Survivors of the detonations set up small villages and struggle to survive in this new earth. The world is no longer a place of safety and warmth, but now a place of death and darkness.

For the topic, nuclear fallout might not necessarily block the sun rays, rather it will deplete the ozone layer and expose the earth to direct sun rays.
The temperature rise will be massive, the melting of atlantica, hence the earth will be washed away.
I doubt the earth will last a year after nuke amargedon
